”What the heck are those things?!”

Watching Serea’s side summon all sorts of gigantic beasts and flying units, Adolf couldn’t help but wonder if he had run into some kind of Empire!

”Screee!”

On the other side, the Shadow Drakehawk had already swept the zombie beasts from the sky and started bombing the ground instead. The battlefield erupted in smoke and chaos. Blades became afterimages, dazzling spells filled the air. This kind of fight awakened some hidden attribute inside Serea.

Just a few commands, and the once-glorious undead tide was already almost wiped out. This was her power!

Watching the undead fall one by one, the Death Knight—guarded by Skeleton Warriors—could no longer sit still. He grabbed his greatsword to charge in, but suddenly—

A flash of cold light: Chilia’s lance stabbed straight at the Death Knight.

Clang!

The Death Knight was knocked back several steps. The Skeleton Warriors trying to aid him were blasted apart by arrows and flames. At that moment, the Black Knight’s speed reached its peak.

”Haa!”

Wielding soul-cutting power, the Black Knight slashed with his scythe blade, severing the Death Knight’s sword hand. Seizing the chance, talius charged in, gravely wounding him. Finally, Little Black descended from the sky.

Arm Blade Thrust, blade Rend!

A direct hit to the sternum, tearing through battered armor. The Death Knight fell, bound by Little Black’s bone tail.

Decapitation: success!

Through Dogsius’s Appraise, Serea already knew it was this Death Knight substituting for someone hiding in the shadows to control these undead. So, as long as this Death Knight was dealt with, everything would fall into place.

But ”dealt with” didn’t mean ”kill.”

To suddenly have such an elite unit appear—what a waste not to make it her own!

Leklis appeared. Facing the dying Death Knight, he began a contest with the mastermind behind him for control.

However...

”Damn you all, I won’t forgive this!”

Adolf had paid dearly to cultivate this Death Knight. Now the enemy wanted to steal him—there was no way he would accept that!

A bundle of death energy condensed in the Death Knight’s skull—that was...

Corpse Explosion!

As a master of necromancy, leklis recognized the spell instantly. One second before detonation, he pulled up a Bone Wall, while Little Black and the others retreated to a safe distance.

Boom!

A few unlucky Skeletons and zombies were caught in the blast. Without the Death Knight’s control, the remaining undead lost all discipline, charging mindlessly—and against Serea’s well-organized forces, it was nothing but suicide.

The battle went on for dozens of minutes, but ended with Serea’s complete victory.

”Clean up the battlefield, treat the wounded.”

Orders delivered, everyone acted fast, and Serea took a quick count of her Death Crystals...

897!

After replenishing her lost undead, she still had 842 left. With that, she headed straight for the Plague Graveyard: Undead.

Her previous Death Crystals had been nowhere near enough to activate the Undead Ritual Platform, but now it was more than sufficient. For the next battle, she had to maximize her power.

”Upgrade, undead Ritual Platform!”

System: Upgrading, please wait...

Watching the altar-shaped construction in the graveyard, as magic patterns crawled up, the building finished upgrading.

Building: Undead Ritual Platform (Purple)

Level: 25

Sturdiness: A

Durability: C

Magic Power: B

Description: The level 2 Death Altar building. Can evolve Skeleton Warriors into higher-level units. Controls up to (0/50) undead, and can now construct a tier two building: ’Mortuary.’

”Check building management.”

Opening the building management menu, the units available for production: bone steed (blue), skeleton Cavalry (blue), Death Knight (purple), and Dread Warrior (purple).

Now came a choice: either use the remaining Death Crystals to upgrade her existing Skeleton Warrior corps, or use the Plague Graveyard to evolve a Mortuary and produce undead behemoths.

Abomination—an excellent force with powerful anti-infantry ability.

But for now, she was not lacking in behemoths, so upgrading the Skeleton Warriors was the priority. Her first pick—

Dread Warrior (Purple): Spend 15 Death Crystals to evolve a Skeleton Warrior into a Dread Warrior; costs 2 Death Crystals daily for maintenance.

The upkeep matched that of Bone Yan. Having witnessed the Dread Warriors’ strength, Serea knew this cost was absolutely reasonable. So—

Twenty!

She selected twenty of her higher-level direct Skeleton Warriors and evolved them straight into Dread Warriors, consuming 300 Death Crystals.

Death energy spiraled up; the Skeleton Warriors’ bones turned ink-black.

”Thank you, queen, for granting us new life!”

Twenty Dread Warriors were born, averaging level 20, bronze elites.

However, since they were direct undead followers, these Dread Warriors did not consume Death Crystals for maintenance. But for non-direct undead followers, that would be tough.

So Serea decided quietly: only her direct undead followers would become Dread Warriors. Non-direct main forces would still be Skeleton Warriors.

After all, one Dread Warrior’s upkeep could maintain two Skeleton Warriors. She couldn’t afford the cost of an army of them.

And since there were no Death Crystals left, Serea didn’t bother to check other units.

”Queen, the wounded are all settled. What’s our next step?”

Lola and the others awaited Serea’s next orders.

”As planned, Doluka and Aruka the chiefs will guard the camp. Everyone else, gather your troops. Prepare for battle. But first, I must visit the Eriwin dwarf tribe to help them break the undead siege.”

”You’re going alone, queen?”

”Celia will accompany me, and I’ll also take the camp’s Shadow Drakehawk and two Gargoyles, so you don’t need to worry about my safety. Just don’t rush forward. While we’ve cleared nearly all the undead nearby, the enemy might still have cards up their sleeve. Gather at the former Jawfang lizardman tribe and wait for my return.”

”Yes, Your Majesty.”

”Any other questions? If not, move out at once.”

At these words, maro—who had seemed weighed down—immediately spoke up.

”I do.”

”Oh? Then stay. The rest, get ready.”

The others left. Serea turned to the lone Maro.

”Speak. What is it?”

”It’s not me... it’s Camilla.”

”Camilla?”

Serea frowned.

Last time, Camilla had taken an arrow for Beverly when she was possessed by Morzada, arousing Serea’s suspicions and resulting in Camilla’s temporary detention. Why was she seeking her now?

Puzzled, Serea followed Maro toward the dungeon.
