I Am Diagnosed as a Medical Titan

Chapter 400: Chapter 260: Doctor, a Medical Miracle

Jiang He finished up and stepped outside.

The rest of the project team had been gathered around Gu Yizhou, comforting him, but now they all turned to look.

Although they could see what was happening inside through the glass window, most of them couldn’t really understand what was going on.

They only sensed that the situation was extremely tense, and the patient’s fate hung in the balance.

Ultimately, they had to wait for Jiang He to come out and announce the outcome.

Seeing the hopeful looks in everyone’s eyes, Jiang He felt a genuine sense of relief.

’Thank goodness she was saved.’

’Otherwise, I wouldn’t have been able to face any of them...’

Jiang He said, ”Yizhou, she’s out of immediate danger for now.”

Hearing this, Gu Yizhou immediately tried to kneel.

”Hey!” Chen Hao reacted in a flash. ”What do you think you’re doing? None of that.”

Gu Yizhou looked like he had reached his physical limit.

Tears were streaming down his face, and he was completely drained.

Held up by Chen Hao, he couldn’t even get a single word out...

It pained Jiang He to see him like this.

’This was his team member, after all. Because he was mentally older, he sometimes saw them all as kids.’

’They felt like a mix of younger brothers and sons (not really).’

In any case, his heart simply ached for him.

’Why do people have to get sick?’

’If it were possible, Jiang He would gladly be out of a job forever if it meant everyone could be healthy...’

But that was obviously impossible.

There were things that still needed to be addressed.

Like right now.

Jiang He had to clearly explain the patient’s condition to Gu Yizhou.

Even if... it wasn’t good news.

After a moment of silence, Jiang He spoke, keeping his voice as steady as possible.

”Yizhou, ECMO is just a temporary support tool. She’s still facing a severe lung infection and consolidation.”

”Next, we’re going to use the strongest possible antibiotics to fight the infection—Tienam plus vancomycin. The next three days are critical. If we can’t get the infection under control, or if her other organs begin to fail...”

Jiang He trailed off.

As an excellent medical student, Gu Yizhou certainly understood the implication.

There are no hundred-percent guarantees in medicine.

Jiang He had pulled her back from the brink of death with a procedure that was ahead of its time.

But she had to fight through to reclaim the other half.

Gu Yizhou leaned on Chen Hao, struggling to his feet.

He coughed a few times, then said in a hoarse voice, ”Boss, thank you...”

The other team members quickly chimed in.

”Oh, there’s no need for that!”

”That’s right.”

”The most important thing for you right now is to take care of yourself.”

”We’re all here for you.”

Gu Yizhou shook his head, his gaze still fixed on Jiang He.

’He was the only one who truly understood.’

’Jiang He had already saved the love of his life twice.’

’It was a debt he could never repay.’

’He had to express his gratitude in words.’

’But he also had to show it with his actions in the future.’

’It was just... that wouldn’t be possible for the time being.’

Gu Yizhou lowered his head, tears dripping down as he said:

”Boss, for the time being, I think I need to temporarily leave the project team.”

”Her parents aren’t in good health either, and with something this major happening, I have to be at the hospital to take care of them. Boss, we’re about to start the new project. I know how difficult KRAS is, but in my current state, I’d just be distracted in the lab. Not only would I be no help, I’d just drag everyone down.”

”I can’t let my personal affairs slow down the whole team’s progress. So, I’m requesting to leave the team for now. Once her condition has stabilized... if you still need me, I’ll come back.”

After he said this, Gu Yizhou broke down, unable to speak through his sobs.

’He was facing his benefactor, the man he’d just vowed to repay with his actions.’

’And yet the first thing he did was ask to leave the team.’

’He felt so guilty, so incredibly guilty...’

The team members tried to talk him out of it.

”Yizhou, you just focus on the hospital. We can pick up the slack in the lab. Why would you leave the team?”

”Yeah, that’s right! We’ll be waiting for you.”

”...”

Ultimately, all eyes turned to Jiang He. The decision was his to make.

Jiang He said softly, ”Alright. You focus on being with her at the hospital. For any medical questions, you can come to me or Teacher Yang at any time. And don’t worry about the costs. I’ll talk to the hospital administration and see if we can get some of the fees waived for you.”

”Th-thank you, Boss...”

Gu Yizhou was on the verge of breaking down again.

’How could he not know? When Jiang He said he’d ”talk to the administration,” it probably meant he’d end up paying for part of it himself.’

’He was so, so lucky to have a boss like Jiang He.’

The team members all came forward to pat Gu Yizhou’s shoulder.

”Don’t think too much about it. Just focus on taking care of her.”

”If you need anything, just give a shout in the group chat. We’ll be there in a flash.”

Only Yi Xiangwan didn’t step forward.

He was usually the one who loved teasing Gu Yizhou the most.

But now, he was the one who felt the worst.

’From now on in the lab, when I tell a dwarf joke, there won’t be anyone grabbing a stool and threatening to beat me up.’

The thought made Xiangwan miserable.

He pouted forlornly, walked over to a corner, and squatted down.

Then he muttered under his breath, ”A dwarf squats down and disappears... Funny, right, Senior...?”

Gu Yizhou didn’t hear him. He wiped away his tears and said, his voice thick with emotion,

”I’m going to get her parents. Boss, Xiangwan, everyone... I’m leaving now. You all get some rest.”

Chen Hao helped him on his way.

The others remained, silent for a long while.

Today should have been a joyous day of success.

But a sudden wave of sorrow had crushed everyone’s spirits.

Everyone watched the direction Yizhou had gone.

And in their hearts, they all had the same thought:

’We’ll be waiting for you, our brother.’

「After a long while.」

Tang Pei sighed. ”Yizhou’s a really good guy. An ordinary person in this situation... probably wouldn’t be willing to sacrifice so much for her.”
