I Am Diagnosed as a Medical Titan

Chapter 393: Chapter 256: Why Don’t These Rewards Ever End?

Just as Jiang He was about to ask for more details on Gu Yizhou’s girlfriend’s current condition,

Lin Zhenhua returned.

He said, ”Everyone, my apologies for the wait. Jiang He, this is truly one happy occasion after another!”

Everyone grew expectant.

Who doesn’t love rewards?

’Come on, knock us out with some huge rewards!’

Lin Zhenhua said,

”Listen up. The state has officially decided to designate your KRAS targeted drug R&D project as a major special project under the National 863 Program!”

Most people in the room: ”!!!”

Only a few people exchanged blank looks, unsure of what the 863 Program signified.

Simply put,

It was a national science and technology program launched in March 1986. It was proposed by four top scientists and approved by the paramount leader of the time.

Initially, it established seven key fields, including biotechnology, aerospace technology, and information technology.

Nearly every project accepted into the 863 Program was a massive undertaking crucial to the national economy and public welfare, jointly headed by multiple academicians.

And now Jiang He, a twenty-one-year-old Ph.D. student, had been admitted directly into this program?

This was nuts!

Jiang He was also a little surprised.

Even he hadn’t expected such a huge reward for coming back this time.

Now that he was in the program, he wouldn’t be short on personnel, funding, or equipment for at least the next few years.

Yes, definitely not.

’So nice.’

All that groundwork for the Baltimore trip really paid off.

—Thank you, Teacher Miller!

Lin Zhenhua smiled faintly. ”There’s more.”

The crowd froze.

’What?! There’s more?!’

Lin Zhenhua said, ”To support your project’s progress, the state has decided to establish a National Targeted Drug R&D Center with your team at its core, in addition to the P3 National Key Laboratory that was already approved for you!”

”!!!”

This was beyond ridiculous!

A top-tier hospital like Affiliated Hospital No. 1 would have bragging rights for years if it had just one national key laboratory.

And Jiang He had two all to himself!

If you’re not in research, looking at Jiang He is like seeing a sliver of the sky from the bottom of a well. If you *are* in research, looking at Jiang He is like a mayfly gazing upon the moon!

Wang Xiaoqing couldn’t help but glance at Yang Xu.

Yang Xu’s face was also a mask of shock.

They both knew that from this day forward, Jiang He’s team had surpassed most of China’s established research institutes in terms of both facilities and political standing.

Yang Xu’s mouth started to move.

Wang Xiaoqing squeezed his hand and glared at him, her eyes conveying a two-word warning: ”You dare?”

Yang Xu pursed his lips, as if to say, ’Fine, I won’t say it. Happy?’

Lin Zhenhua spoke again. ”And also...”

Chen Hao couldn’t take it anymore. ”...Minister Lin, there’s more? Why don’t you just tell us everything at once?”

Lin Zhenhua burst out laughing. ”Third, the higher-ups have jointly issued a notice to officially place Jiang He on the National Scientific Research Talent Protection List.”

This term left everyone a bit baffled, as it was completely unfamiliar.

Yang Xu translated for the group. ”Think of it as state-level protection. Being on this list means Jiang He’s personal safety, his travel in and out of the country, and even his family’s lives will be monitored and protected by special government departments. So, if anyone’s thinking of messing with Jiang He in the future, watch out. You might get taken away for questioning.”

”??”

”Holy shit...”

”That’s insane.”

”I have a plan. Next time someone tries to bully me, I’ll just trick them into bullying Jiang He instead. Then they’ll get hauled off for questioning.”

”Genius!”

”Brilliant!”

Amid the murmurs of the crowd,

Jiang He felt very happy as well.

’Now that I’m under state protection, I can worry a lot less, especially about Teacher Shen.’

Lin Zhenhua grinned. ”And there’s more.”

Everyone: ”?”

Lin Zhenhua continued, ”Jiang He, in light of the irreplaceable, top-tier skill you’ve shown in clinical surgery and the epoch-making results of your research, the Provincial Health Commission and the Party Committee of Affiliated Hospital No. 1 have held an emergency consultation and decided to break with convention.”

”Although you don’t have the years of service required for a senior professional title, the provincial department has decided to make a special exception. Effective tomorrow, you are being granted independent surgical and prescription privileges at the Deputy Chief Physician level. The hospital has specially approved to underwrite all medical liability. From now on, here at Affiliated Hospital No. 1, you are a Deputy Chief in all but name!”

Everyone was stunned yet again.

Alright, that was too many shocks for one day. They were starting to feel dizzy...

Deputy Chief Physician, a senior professional title.

In China’s rigidly hierarchical medical system,

even if a medical student had a perfectly smooth career path—

completing their bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate, then enduring the gauntlet of chief residency and attending physician—the absolute earliest they could hope to earn that senior title would be after turning thirty.

And Jiang He was twenty-one.

It was completely unprecedented.

Whether anyone would follow in his footsteps was hard to say.

After all, the future standardized residency training system would make it even more difficult...

In truth, giving Jiang He this title was more a reflection of his status.

His practicing license was still strictly limited to Affiliated Hospital No. 1. Legally, responsibility and supervision were still shouldered by Dean Chen.

So, even though he was a Deputy Chief, his position was different from others with the same title...

Still, no matter how you sliced it, this was insane.

Everyone at the table was completely numb by this point.

They just sat there, stunned, staring blankly at Minister Lin.

The look in their eyes basically said: ”Bring it on! You got more? Keep going, we can take it!”

A mischievous smile played on Lin Zhenhua’s lips. ”And also...”

Everyone roared internally: ’I knew it!!!’

Lin Zhenhua looked at Jiang He. ”In recognition of your outstanding contribution to the nation’s honor and your role as a benchmark for your generation, the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League and the All-China Youth Federation have officially and jointly approved a special exception: they will be awarding you the China Youth May Fourth Medal!”
