I Am Diagnosed as a Medical Titan

Chapter 386: Chapter 254: Triumph (2)

The dean, of course, knew what Weber meant.

Weber had flown back overnight, clearly to remind him of this very matter.

The dean was decisive, saying:

”Jiang He is moving full steam ahead. We need to pursue a deeper collaboration.”

”Call a press conference immediately. Formally announce the Charite Medical School’s partnership with Jiang He’s team and claim our share of the credit for this achievement.”

”Establish a special fund as a reward for Jiang He’s team and to support their future research. Whether he accepts it or not is irrelevant; we must make our position clear. We need him to know that Europe is his ally.”

”Furthermore, Jiang He has applied for a PCT international patent. We will use our academic influence within the European Union to fast-track his patent application and provide him with our full support throughout the process.”

「Sweden · Karolinska Institute」

Fine snow drifted down from the Stockholm sky.

This was the institution responsible for selecting and awarding the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.

Inside an oak-paneled office.

Two men with graying hair sat on a sofa, holding a letter.

The sender: Qian Yongjian.

One of the men lowered the letter, removed his reading glasses, and said, ”Roger gave him an extremely high evaluation. He said this young man is a contender for the Lasker Award, and even... for what we do here.”

The other man nodded. ”Detecting pancreatic cancer two to three years early... If this technology is validated in large-scale clinical trials, it would truly be enough to change the course of humanity’s fight against cancer.”

”And he’s only twenty-one.”

”In the face of science, age is just a number. Miller at Hopkins is in his fifties, yet he not only plagiarized but also fabricated data. Academic integrity isn’t measured by age. Oftentimes, scientific progress depends on a stroke of genius.”

The first man nodded.

He stood and walked over to his desk.

From the desktop, he picked up a new, empty manila folder.

He took a fountain pen and, on the folder’s label, wrote Jiang He’s name.

Then, he wrote the project title: miRNA Early Screening for Pancreatic Cancer.

The man placed the documents into the folder.

And with that, Jiang He’s name was entered into the Nobel Prize’s long-term candidate observation archive.

「China · Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (CAMS)」

Beijing, late at night.

Several leading figures hurried into a high-level conference room within the central government compound.

Professor Zhong Shouxian of Peking Union Medical College Hospital and Academician Zheng Liyan, a specialist in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, were among them.

At the head of the conference table sat an extremely high-ranking official.

”Now that everyone’s here, let’s get straight to the point. Experts, you’ve all seen the reports from the major foreign media outlets. I want to hear your professional opinions. Just how significant is this thing Jiang He has developed?”

Academician Zheng Liyan was the first to speak. ”Sir, this is an epoch-making achievement. Until now, most of our country’s medical research has simply been following the West’s lead. But this time, Jiang He didn’t just leapfrog ahead—he’s taken the absolute lead in the field of pancreatic cancer! As of now, he’s the only one in the world who has successfully developed peripheral blood miRNA for early screening!”

Professor Zhong Shouxian added, ”If I may add something—a few days ago, Jiang He performed a surgery at Peking Union. I witnessed his clinical skills, and they are top-tier. I’ve also carefully reviewed the early screening data he published. It’s flawless. This young man has a limitless future.”

”He mentioned at the press conference that his next step is to tackle... KRAS?” the official nodded. ”What is that?”

Zhong Shouxian explained, ”That’s an even more difficult path. The international pharmaceutical industry considers KRAS mutations to be an ’undruggable’ target. Several major Western pharmaceutical giants have poured hundreds of millions of US dollars into it without making a single ripple.”

”Then can Jiang He actually pull it off?” the official asked.

Zhong Shouxian and Zheng Liyan exchanged a glance, unsure of how to answer.

Finally, Zhong Shouxian chose his words carefully. ”Sir, I don’t know if Jiang He can succeed. Objectively speaking, I’m actually very skeptical. The problem is, I was also skeptical when he announced he was going to work on the miRNA early screening project. And as it turns out, I was wrong...”

Zheng Liyan nodded. ”I wasn’t optimistic either. I never expected him to actually succeed. The kid’s a genius.”

The official smiled. ”Very well. I understand what you experts are getting at.”

The conference room fell silent.

All eyes were on the official, awaiting his decision.

The official spoke.

”Starting tomorrow, Jiang He’s targeted therapy project will be designated a Major Special Project under the 863 Program. We will approve maximum funding for the initial phase. Subsequently, he gets whatever he needs—personnel, funding, you name it. He has a green light all the way.”

”In addition to the P3 National Key Laboratory, we will also establish a National Targeted Drug Research and Development Center.”

”Furthermore, notify the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Health to place Jiang He’s name on the protected list for national scientific talent.”

”The young man has guts. Since he’s already proven his capabilities and announced his next goal on the world stage, the nation can’t be the one to hold him back.”

”My recommendation can be summarized in five words.”

”Unconditional support, spare no effort.”

With solemn expressions, Zhong Shouxian and Zheng Liyan nodded. ”Understood!”

...

The world isn’t run by swords and fists, but by favors and connections.

As Jiang He’s name skyrocketed to global fame...

Countless medical institutions, and even entire nations, were holding meetings because of him...

In the great game between world powers, the competition for talent has always been a crucial element.

In the future, Jiang He would face more and more temptations.

’Then again, financial incentives wouldn’t work. The kid isn’t short on cash.’
