Prodigal System in the Flourishing City

Chapter 285: Chapter 284: Home Again [1st Update, Please Subscribe]

The He Family’s scattered affairs would naturally be taken care of by someone; there was no need for Lu Xiaobu to intervene.

Upon asking about the room where his mother had been imprisoned, Lu Xiaobu swiftly made his way to a secret chamber beneath the remnants of broken walls.

He opened the door of the secret chamber.

Instantly, a skeleton appeared before him.

This extremely desiccated skeleton seemed as though it would scatter with the wind at any moment.

Zhang Meng and Li Jin quickly stood by the doorway to block the wind entering the chamber.

Lu Xiaobu took a deep breath and stepped inside with heavy steps.

His heart ached.

Eighteen years had passed without seeing each other, and upon reunion, only a withered husk remained!

Revenge was certainly satisfying, but how much better it would be if you were still alive?

He knelt before the skeleton, opened his mouth, wanting to say something.

But in the end, all his myriad words condensed into a single phrase: ”Mom, I’ve come to take you home.”

”Swoosh!”

As those words were spoken, the skeleton suddenly disintegrated into dust.

There was no skeleton left, only a pile of bone powder.

Yet Lu Xiaobu seemed to see a figure that only appeared in his dreams, nodding earnestly at him, tears welling in his eyes, and even extending her arms as if wanting to embrace him.

But she disappeared in the blink of an eye.

As the skeleton vanished, a letter appeared in front of Lu Xiaobu, actually, it was a patch of ground covered with blood-written words.

For some reason, despite the many years, the bloodstains looked as fresh as if just written.

”With my blood, I bless my child!”

”With my soul, I sustain his livelihood!”

”My soul disintegrates, escaping reincarnation!”

”With all manner of blessings, I endure them all!”

These thirty-two words clearly showed how difficult it was for the person who wrote them initially.

The first word was written with full force, but by the last word, the writing had blurred almost to the point of illegibility.

One could imagine how a woman struggled to write these words in her dying moments.

No, that’s not right, not just those sixteen words.

There were more words, even those that had become unreadable.

The line read—Xiaobu, mom is sorry, so sorry, sor...

”Mom, let’s go home.”

Lu Xiaobu didn’t want to dwell on or learn about what had happened then: ”Zhang Meng, Li Jin, dig up the entire floor and bring my mom home.”

”Yes, Young Master.”

Zhang Meng and Li Jin obeyed the order.

They carefully excavated the entire floor of the secret chamber.

Covering it with a glass case provided by Wang Tianhe, designed to protect relics.

...

Lu Xiaobu left, leaving Xiangjiang behind, taking his mother’s ashes with him.

And the once-famous He Family of Xiangjiang vanished, leaving no trace behind.

Many who sought the He Family for Feng Shui suddenly found that there was no one from the He Family to be found.

Later, news emerged that the He Family, who never left Xiangjiang, had relocated!

This soon became the main topic of discussion in the streets and alleys.

People speculated about why the He Family had moved!

But there were no results.

Only the celebrities who had met Lu Xiaobu before had some guesses, but they dared not speculate wildly!

This incident gradually subsided as time passed.

...

Lu Xiaobu returned home.

”Xiaobu, you’re back? Where did you go?”

Lu’s father saw Lu Xiaobu and immediately smiled.

Though Xiaobu was now renowned, he was still the precious child of the family, always bringing joy whenever seen.

”Dad, I’ve brought mom back.”

Lu Xiaobu whispered, afraid that his father couldn’t handle the shock.

”Ah? What did you say? What mother?”

Hearing this word, Lu’s father’s mouth twitched with a pained arc, as he forced a smile and said.

”I said, I brought Mom back.”

Though it pained Lu Xiaobu, he still spoke the words.

Then he waved his hand, motioning Zhang Meng and Li Jin to place the ground on the floor.

”This... this... this... this is Meimei!”

Lu’s father saw the ground, the bone powder, and the familiar handwriting on the blood-written letter.

Tears streaked down his face in an instant.

His body swayed, almost falling.

Lu Xiaobu quickly stepped forward to support Lu’s father: ”Yes, it’s Mother, I brought her back from the He Family.”

”Is it? Yes, it’s her! I recognize her!”

Trembling, Lu’s father shuffled forward with Lu Xiaobu’s support, leaning over the glass cover, staring blankly at the bone powder inside, tears streaming down along the wrinkles on his face.

”You’re back, you’ve returned.” Lu’s father cried and then laughed: ”Originally, I said once our children were married, I’d come to find you! But I didn’t expect our Xiaobu to be so promising, bringing you back. It’s good you’re back.”

Lu’s father laughed and cried, speaking and shouting.

At last, all of it turned into one phrase: ”Meimei, I miss you so much!”

Lu’s father suddenly told Lu Xiaobu: ”Xiaobu, go outside for a bit, I want to talk to your mom alone.”

”Okay.”

Lu Xiaobu agreed, but didn’t dare to go far.

Arriving at the doorway, the usually non-smoking Lu Xiaobu, lit a cigarette.

As the pungent smoke swirled in his lungs, his emotions seemed to lighten a bit.

He just lay there on the ground, quietly gazing at the sky, still hearing his father’s voice alternating between crying and laughing, reminiscing about the past and talking about the present.

”Back then, we were so formidable! Do you remember? You even joked that we were the ’female double terrors’...”

”By the way, Hongbin got married, and his wife is very good, very filial...”

”Wenhao is the same, that rascal only knows how to study...”

”Especially Xiaobu, that little guy from back then, his build now is great, I plan to have him marry seven wives, haha, you would probably say I’m being improper again if you were here...”

Hearing this outside, the four women cried incessantly, moved by Lu’s father and mother’s enduring love, and happy for the family’s reunion!

Even Zhang Meng and Li Jin had their eyes turned red!

They too, had mothers.

”Xiaobu?”

Lu Hongbin arrived with Lin Shu, stunned at the scene before him.

Liang Lan, wiping her tears, explained everything to Lu Hongbin.

Lu Hongbin’s eyes instantly reddened.

He really wanted to go in to see his mother, but he didn’t want to disturb his father.

So, he followed Lu Xiaobu’s example and lay down beside Lu Xiaobu, lighting a cigarette.

Then, he firmly grasped Lu Xiaobu’s shoulder, tears streaming down continuously.

Lu Wenhao also returned.

Making the same choice.

He lay down on Lu Xiaobu’s right side, also hugging their little brother tightly, tears streaking down!

At this moment, the three brothers lay there on the ground, their actions almost identical.

It was as if Lu Hongbin and Lu Wenhao were using their solid bodies to protect Lu Xiaobu.

But it also seemed like Lu Xiaobu alone was supporting, crying Lu Hongbin and Lu Wenhao.

All was unspoken!

For the Lu Family, there had always been two long-awaited things.

First, for Xiaobu to be healthy.

Second, to bring mother home!

Today, they had accomplished both. No, actually, it was all done by Xiaobu alone!

The previously prodigal Xiaobu had grown to a level nobody could ignore.

Still the same old saying...

My Xiaobu is awesome, no one can compare!
