Chapter 379: Chapter 251 Young Master is Missing Chapter 379: Chapter 251 Young Master is Missing “`

Little Monk Bu Jie, with his kind eyes and benevolent face, showed a trace of helplessness as he chanted a Buddhist scripture, “Amitabha Buddha…”

It was indeed regrettable that he had specifically reminded Benefactor Zhou about this matter, but it seems to have been forgotten to the ends of the earth!

Seeing Little Monk Bu Jie like this, Gu Changsheng snorted coldly and said, “Little Monk Bu Jie, trying to seek refuge with Buddha at the eleventh hour is useless. If you don’t give me a clear explanation today, I won’t let the matter rest easily!”

Her home was full of elaborate carvings and paintings, and Peach Blossom Cottage was no exception. And now, lo and behold, the railings of the Observation Deck had taken flight!

Gu Changsheng felt that there must be some mystery behind this event!

“Amitabha Buddha, Benefactor Changsheng is so unrelenting. What exactly is it that you want?” Little Monk Bu Jie, who was usually easy to speak to, asked calmly but firmly.

Gu Changsheng thought for a moment, then raised her eyebrows in an amiable manner and proposed, “How about this, Little Monk? We make a deal. You tell me the truth about Miss Huo attracting the auspicious sign of Hundred Birds Paying Homage to the Phoenix, and I’ll let the matter of the vanishing railings go. What do you think?”

Upon hearing this, Little Monk Bu Jie’s eyes flashed with disbelief, and he stared directly at Gu Changsheng, pressing for confirmation, “Benefactor Huo attracted the auspicious sign of Hundred Birds Paying Homage to the Phoenix?”

Seeing his reaction, a glint flashed in Gu Changsheng’s eyes as she nodded and replied, “Yes, this morning, Miss Huo attracted the auspicious sign of Hundred Birds Paying Homage to the Phoenix, and the whole town came to watch. Even the vegetable sellers had run off, which is why we could only eat radishes and vegetables.”

“Oh…” Little Monk Bu Jie sighed deeply upon hearing this, his face expressing deep compassion, “My Buddha is merciful… Benefactor Mu he…”

Gu Changsheng watched Little Monk Bu Jie, not understanding but realizing that he must know something!

“Little Monk, what do you think of my proposal? Don’t you want to tell me the reason?” Gu Changsheng continued with the earlier topic when he suddenly fell silent.

Little Monk Bu Jie shook his head and replied, “What if I don’t tell the Benefactor the reason, what then?”

Gu Changsheng pondered for a moment with her chin in her hand, then raised an eyebrow and replied, “If you insist on keeping quiet, there’s nothing I can do. Then you’ll have to restore the railings to their original state for me!”

Little Monk Bu Jie considered this for a moment with his head down, then looking up, he said, “In that case, I would rather choose to restore the railings to their original state.”

“You!” Gu Changsheng was at a loss for words, pointing at Little Monk Bu Jie’s shiny bald head, feeling utterly aggrieved.

“Can you even do carpentry work? Those railings were carved with designs of fortune, prosperity, longevity, and happiness!”

“I can’t, but I can learn!” Faced with skepticism, Little Monk Bu Jie responded confidently.

Gu Changsheng choked again, “So, you’re determined not to speak, huh?”

Little Monk Bu Jie recited another Buddhist scripture, “Amitabha Buddha, the Buddha said: ‘It cannot be spoken of, it cannot be spoken of!’”

“Come on! Are you telling me your Buddha didn’t say anything else?”

“The secrets of heaven must not be revealed,” Little Monk Bu Jie replied, going with the flow.

“You! Fine, you win!” Gu Changsheng stormed off, frustrated.

It was not until she left Peach Blossom Cottage that she turned back to Xiao Si Xi and said, “Xiao Si Xi, it seems that in front of Buddha, all beings really are equal. We are treated just the same as Zhou Zongbao, without any difference!”

Both had been rendered speechless by Little Monk Bu Jie.

But Zhou Zongbao didn’t say a word, whereas she, fortunately, did manage to say a few!

Turns out she is not a qualified oriole at all! Not to mention catching a mantis, she didn’t even see the shadow of a cicada!

“Look at you, each one of you keeping tight-lipped as if it’s a great secret. I don’t even care to know anymore! Even if you told me, I wouldn’t give a damn! Humph!” Gu Changsheng snorted coldly and walked away.

Each and every one of them was behaving mysteriously, as if possessed by something. It was truly exasperating!

If they wanted to keep their secrets, let them! Keeping secrets is no good if it’s going to suffocate them!

As for her, she would do as they wished: turn a deaf ear and a blind eye, as if it were no concern of hers, and comfortably live her own peaceful life!

Yuan Bao put the vegetables down and left, and Dong Lei, upon learning that there was someone to tend to his wife, let out a sigh of relief as if a heavy burden had been lifted.

Heaven knows, these past few days she wished she could split herself in two to keep up with the work. But now, at last, someone was there to share half of her duties, allowing her to focus on her cooking in peace!

“Eh? Is this melon also brought by Yuan Bao?”

Gu Changsheng picked up a slice of melon from the fruit plate and tasted it, immediately squinting in delight.

So sweet, refreshingly delicious, with a mouthful of fruity aroma!

“Yes, my lady, this was all personally selected by me, and the master also gave it a look before it was brought here!” Si Xi hastily explained from the side.

Gu Changsheng nodded in satisfaction, “Not bad, quite tasty!”

Since it was almost time for dinner, and though the melon was delicious, Gu Changsheng didn’t indulge. She ate only a few pieces and put it down, thinking it would be nice as a dessert after dinner, especially rare to have such sweet melon in late autumn!

No longer needing to serve Gu Changsheng in person, Dong Lei turned all her attention back to her cooking, which resulted in an especially lavish dinner spread.

“My lady, this is the lamb soup I stewed. As the weather is getting colder, drinking some lamb soup warms the stomach the best. Please, have a taste!” Dish after dish of delicacies were served, and Dong Lei placed the final dish of lamb soup in the center, quickly ladling a bowl for Gu Changsheng.

“`

Gu Changsheng leaned over and sniffed, noting the smell as fragrant yet not fishy, aromatic without being greasy, and couldn’t help but give a thumbs up, “Well done! Xiao Leizi’s culinary skills have greatly improved!”

Hearing the praise from his own wife, Dong Lei was as pleased as a child who had received a compliment from a teacher.

“Let me introduce everyone. This is Xiao Xizi, who will be serving by my side from now on. Please look after her.” After introducing Xiao Xizi, Gu Changsheng waved his hand, “Don’t just stand there, let’s start eating!”

“Yes!” The others responded in unison, sitting down as well.

Gu Changsheng, seeing this, began to eat, but halfway through, he suddenly felt something was amiss. He looked up at the others, “Doesn’t it feel like we’re missing something?”

The people exchanged glances, collectively shaking their heads.

“Where’s my Little Meat Bun?”

Gu Changsheng’s gaze swept over everyone, finally asking out loud.

Every mealtime, her beloved son would inevitably cling to her. So why was he nowhere to be seen now?

“Young Master!”

“Yes, where is the Young Master?”

Uncle Song and Dong Lei exchanged looks, then immediately stood up in alarm.

“Wife, the Young Master is missing!”

Gu Changsheng frowned at the two, “Don’t panic just yet. The residence is so big; perhaps he’s hiding somewhere, playing and forgetting the time to eat. Look for him first!”

Without her son, the meal was looking to be a no-go!

“You lads, what are you waiting for? Help me find the Young Master!” Uncle Song called out to his few subordinates, anxiety written all over his old face, and hurried out of the dining hall first.

“Wife, I will also look for the Young Master!” Dong Lei too rushed out in a flurry.

In the blink of an eye, the once full dining hall was empty except for Gu Changsheng, Zhou Zongbao, and Xiao Si Xi.

“Xiao Gu Ze couldn’t have been kidnapped, could he?” Zhou Zongbao said, his face filled with worry.

Gu Changsheng immediately shot him a sharp glare.

Scared by the look, Zhou Zongbao shivered and quickly stood up and ran out, saying as he went, “Young Master, I will go check the martial arts training ground. Xiao Gu Ze loves practicing on the Plum Blossom Piles there!”

Gu Changsheng watched Zhou Zongbao’s hasty retreat with narrowed eyes and then called out coldly to the shadows behind him, “Ning Er, Tan Nv! Were there any strangers in the residence today?”

Although she disliked what Zhou Zongbao had said, Gu Changsheng couldn’t help but take the suggestion seriously.

If her precious son truly had been taken away…

Gu Changsheng forced herself to stay calm and shook her head. The mere thought of the consequences was unbearable!

“Today, no one other than one person came to consult, whom you personally attended to, wife. Only Yuan Bao and Si Xi led a few guards here. There were no other presences!” The reply came from Tan Nv, not Ning Er.

Tan Nv’s voice carried a unique foreign accent, which Gu Changsheng was hearing for the first time. However, clearly, she had no time to concern herself with these details right now.

“Little Meat Bun has some Kung Fu skills; if someone broke into the residence, it couldn’t have gone unnoticed!”

Gu Changsheng spoke with a somber expression, considering countless possibilities, “Follow me, let’s go to Flower Peacock’s secluded building and see Foster Father as well.”

“Yes!” The three responded and followed Gu Changsheng, racing out swiftly.

The Gu Residence’s population was straightforward, with just six people considered the main family members and now, only Uncle Song, Dong Lei, and six youngsters handling the household chores remained.

At this moment, the whole residence was in an uproar, with everyone searching high and low for Little Meat Bun.

Gu Changsheng first headed to the quiet and remote Xilou at Yue Xilou, where the reclusion was happening. After circling the outside and confirming no presence other than that of Flower Peacock, she rushed off to see Mr. Ban Shan.

Mr. Ban Shan had been engrossed in military texts for a full day and night and was pulled out of his focus by the noise outside his door.

With a hint of displeasure, Mr. Ban Shan opened the door of his study, just in time to see his daughter hurrying towards him. A surge of uncontainable joy rushed within him as he welcomed her excitedly, “Changsheng’s beloved daughter, those military texts…”

“Foster Father!” Before Mr. Ban Shan could finish his excitable speech, Gu Changsheng interrupted him anxiously, “Foster Father sir, let’s not talk about the military texts for now, there’s something more urgent I need to ask you!”

“What is it? What could be more important than those military…” Mr. Ban Shan retracted his hand in bewilderment, looking questioningly at Gu Changsheng.

“Foster Father! Your dear little grandson is missing. Please check quickly, has he come to your Book Tower?” Gu Changsheng explained the reason for her visit directly.

Mr. Ban Shan was startled by the news, “What? My little grandson is missing? Yantai, Yantai! Come out with me now!”

Yantai, holding a feather duster, hurried down from above the Book Tower, “Master, what do you need me for?”

“Has my little grandson been here? Is he in the Book Tower?” The moment he saw Yantai, Mr. Ban Shan asked eagerly, his usual refined scholarly demeanor forgotten.
