Chapter 374: Chapter 247 Little Eunuch Si Xi Chapter 374: Chapter 247 Little Eunuch Si Xi “Alright!” Si Xi responded, then turned around and asked, “Does our master really need to personally check something as trivial as melons?”

“Smack!” Yuan Bao hit him on the head again, angrily rebuking, “What did I tell you? Everything must be checked with care! How many times have I said, nothing concerning Lady Changsheng is trivial? Of course, this matter needs to be reviewed by master!”

Si Xi, rubbing his head, nodded sheepishly, “Alright… but Lord Yuan Bao, looking at the situation, Lady Changsheng will definitely be the master I will serve in the future. Can you take me to see her again?”

“Didn’t I already take you to see her once at Baili Mountain?” Yuan Bao frowned and glanced at him.

“That doesn’t count; I didn’t even dare to enter the door! Lord Yuan Bao, please, take me to see Lady Changsheng again. If I don’t understand her at all, how can I serve her well in the future?” Si Xi implored with his hands pressed together.

Yuan Bao, feeling helpless, nodded, “I’ll ask the master later. If he agrees, I’ll take you to see Lady Changsheng.”

Si Xi was rather handsome and petite like a girl. When he first entered the palace, at the age of four, Yuan Bao had found him crying in a corner of the Fulu Palace and, feeling pity, had taken him back.

His Highness Prince Bao, seeing his good looks, jokingly suggested raising him to serve as a personal eunuch for his master’s future principal wife. Si Xi was always lively and also had a good physique for martial training, so his master even took him along for mountain training.

Yuan Bao himself was slightly chubby from a young age and lazy at martial training, always doing just enough to get by, quite unlike the much more proficient Si Xi. However, the two got along like brothers.

Si Xi, seeing Yuan Bao agree, was naturally overjoyed, eagerly rubbing his hands in anticipation.

As expected, after Zhou Mu inspected the melons selected for Gu Changsheng and heard Yuan Bao’s request, he thought briefly and then agreed to let Si Xi accompany them.

“Master! Is Lady Changsheng the master that Si Xi will serve in the future?” As soon as Si Xi saw his master agree, he immediately asked with a smile.

Zhou Mu’s lips curved slightly as he nodded, “On this trip, if my beloved agrees, you may also stay at the Gu Residence.”

Upon hearing this, Si Xi understood the deeper implication and quickly knelt down to pay a great respect, “In that case, I bid you take care, master! Since childhood, I have followed your teachings and acknowledged only one master! Master, I can no longer serve behind you!”

Si Xi, never one to think too deeply and always straightforward, had always taken Prince Bao’s casual remark as his lifelong mission.

Later, he had even thought for a while that his master would remain unbetrothed and without need for warriors all his life.

Little did anyone know, aside from martial training, he was also skilled at grooming and dressing, the art of which even included his master needing Si Xi’s help to shape Lady Changsheng’s eyebrows!

“You’ve certainly got your wish, not that anyone would guess you’re reluctant to serve directly before the master,” Yuan Bao teased him with a laugh.

Si Xi, unconcerned, then turned back to Yuan Bao and knocked his head against the ground, “Lord Yuan Bao, once I’m gone, you’ll have to practice your martial arts more diligently. Otherwise, Yhan Ting and the others will bully you, and I won’t be there to protect you!”

“Enough with that, we know you’re skilled, but whether Lady Changsheng will keep you is still not certain. If your hopes are dashed, don’t blame me for not warning you.” Yuan Bao said irritably, his eyes full of concern, as he advised, “Serving before Lady Changsheng is unlike serving before the master. Her entire family is precious to her, and if you manage to stay, it will be a long and arduous task.”

Yuan Bao, who had essentially raised Si Xi from a young age, certainly had a special bond with him.

“I understand,” said Si Xi, nodding and then speaking with a smile, “Lady Changsheng’s two maids and her subordinates remain at Baili Mountain for training, encountering such dangerous events like celestial anomalies. It’s most fitting that I go.”

“Master, please rest assured. As long as I draw breath, I guarantee no harm will come to Lady Changsheng; although I might not be smart, having sworn an oath long ago, I will not break it!” Si Xi turned to Zhou Mu, his voice resounding with solemnity.

“With you there, I will naturally be somewhat relieved…” Zhou Mu looked at Si Xi and then turned away, “You and Yuan Bao have been with me since childhood, you even went with me to the mountain to study and to the battlefield, never leaving my side. Si Xi, I personally trained you, and you surely know Lady Changsheng’s place in my heart.”

“With Yue Xilou beside Lady Changsheng and two aunts unwilling to show themselves, only Ning Er, Kun Nu, and Tan Nv are with her, all operating covertly. Si Xi, from now on, you must protect her openly.”

“Master! Now only San Cunding remains by your side, please take great care! I can no longer be near you!” Tears appeared in Si Xi’s eyes as he prostrated himself and did not rise.

Zhou Mu gazed into the distance, murmuring, “With the world about to plunge into chaos, I only wish for her to live peacefully in Liuzhou, away from the turmoil. Si Xi, go!”

“Yes!” Si Xi answered, wiped the tears from his eyes, and turned to head to his quarters; he needed to pack his belongings! From now and until Lady Changsheng was married into Prince Mu’s Mansion, he could return.

Yuan Bao watched Si Xi’s retreating figure and couldn’t help but sigh, “Master, will Lady Changsheng allow Si Xi to stay?”

Zhou Mu’s gaze was distant as he slowly spoke, “She will. With her intelligence, even if she doesn’t know the full truth, she can guess some of it. She wants to live peacefully, and will surely understand my well-intentioned efforts…”

“Well! I worried Si Xi might be seduced by Miss Huo’s beauty, seems like my concerns were unwarranted! It’s good that Si Xi can stay by Lady Changsheng’s side…” Yuan Bao nodded, hiding the reluctance in his eyes.

“You go as well, after this time, you may not see her for a long while, like me. Consider it a farewell.” Zhou Mu waved his hand, signaling Yuan Bao to leave.

Yuan Bao responded, sighed, and walked towards the door.

Si Xi had already been waiting outside the door, his back carrying only a small bundle, his waist encircled with a fine iron chain.

“Are you ready?” Lord Yuan Bao, seeing him dressed like this, asked softly.

“Lord Yuan Bao, I am ready!” Si Xi answered with a smile, showing no sadness of parting.

“Look at you, heartless and lungless, I and your master have doted on you in vain for so long!” Yuan Bao patted his head, and the two, leading three guards carrying bamboo baskets, walked outside. As they walked, Yuan Bao continued to caution, “Si Xi, as your master said, the hearts of the other Three Kingdoms have long been disloyal. In two or three years, there will likely be great chaos under heaven.”

“Your master is willing to pay any price to protect Lady Changsheng unharmed. Your presence by Lady Changsheng’s side now brings joy and sorrow.”

“The joy is that you can enjoy temporary peace, but the sorrow is that you bear the heavy responsibility of protecting Lady Changsheng. Ah, Si Xi, your master values Changsheng more than his life; you must not make any mistakes, otherwise, I will have to accompany you in burial to atone to your master!”

Listening to Yuan Bao’s words, Si Xi’s delicate eyebrows tightly furrowed, and he responded solemnly, “Rest assured, Lord Yuan Bao. My kung fu is not much inferior to that of the Secret Guard Lord; I will certainly do my utmost to protect Lady Changsheng!”

“Good! Let’s go!” Seeing his determination, Yuan Bao sighed, nodded his head.

Before leaving, Yuan Bao remembered that the Gu Residence hadn’t bought enough vegetables for cooking today, so he went to the kitchen again and packed up a lot of vegetables and meat to bring along.

…

As if manifesting his thoughts, Gu Changsheng burst into a smile when he saw the seven or eight baskets of vegetables Yuan Bao brought.

At least, there was no need to worry about having radishes for dinner!

“Yuan Bao, are you coming to ask for forgiveness?” Gu Changsheng looked at Yuan Bao, smiling amiably.

“Lady Changsheng…” Yuan Bao’s plump, baby-face crinkled like a steamed bun, a face full of indescribable bitterness.

Look! He knew, with Lady Changsheng’s intelligence, she would definitely figure out it was him!

Gu Changsheng, propping his chin, looked at Yuan Bao’s pitiful appearance and waved his hand indifferently, “Yuan Bao, stop playing the pity card in front of this old lady. It was you who stole my Soul Attracting Incense, wasn’t it?”

Damn it, she wasn’t foolish enough to think that Zhou Mu, that evildoer, would stoop to such petty thieving!

So, it must have been Yuan Bao, familiar with every blade of grass and tree in the Gu Residence, who did the job!

Humph! A thief guarding against his own!

“Lady Changsheng, Yuan Bao had no choice…” Yuan Bao wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and began his quiet explanation.

The matter, well, it indeed was an order from his master, carried out by him, but…

Some things couldn’t be said; he could only hint so much.

“Yuan Bao, I can overlook you stealing my Soul Attracting Incense, but you must tell me, what exactly is Zhou Mu trying to achieve with all this mystification?” Gu Changsheng looked at Yuan Bao with an expression all ready to negotiate, blinking her big eyes.

A struggle flashed across Yuan Bao’s face, he genuinely wanted to tell Lady Changsheng the truth!

But he couldn’t!

His master did not want Lady Changsheng to worry unnecessarily!

“Lady Changsheng, you must believe that whatever my master does, it’s all for your sake. In this world, only my master would spare no effort to keep you safe!” For once, Yuan Bao’s baby-face turned serious, devoid of any smile.

Seeing him so solemn, Gu Changsheng frowned, “What’s this about? Why do I have a bad premonition?”

Zhou Mu rarely kept things from her, let alone Yuan Bao!

If even Yuan Bao was acting like this, it proved that the matter was indeed serious!

“Lady Changsheng, Yuan Bao will not say more, but no matter what happens in the future, you must trust my master!” Having said this, Yuan Bao immediately shut his mouth.

Gu Changsheng’s eyes narrowed slightly, and a trace of solemnity appeared on her face.

She couldn’t help feeling that Yuan Bao was very strange today, acting with such finality, as if he were saying goodbye.
