Time Travel: The Best Doctor in Ancient Times

Chapter 369: Chapter 243: It’s a Blessing to Eat Chapter 369: Chapter 243: It’s a Blessing to Eat Zhou Zongbao arrived huffing and puffing, drawn by the aroma, ready to catch Gu Changsheng red-handed for eating alone.

By the time he reached Dong Lei’s private kitchen, Gu Changsheng and Little Meat Bun were already eagerly guarding a large pot.

In one word, Gu Changsheng was genuinely hungry. She had only had a few fried radish balls for breakfast before Uncle Song interrupted, and now it was nearly noon–heaven knew she was starving!

Gu Changsheng’s stomach rumbled, and Little Meat Bun was sniffing the meaty fragrance emanating from the pot, his nose twitching.

“Mommy, it smells so good! Those two chickens look nice. They must taste great…” His drool was nearly dripping.

Gu Changsheng laughed and playfully tapped his little nose. “Look at you drooling all over yourself. Have we ever run out of food at home? You insatiable little cat, Aunt Lei will get you a big bowl in a bit!”

Upon hearing this, Little Meat Bun immediately felt satisfied and smiled so wide his eyes disappeared.

“Gu Changsheng!” Zhou Zongbao stared at the mother and son sharing food, his eyes nearly shooting fire in anger!

Gu Changsheng turned around upon hearing him. “Oh, Zhou Zongbao, I was just about to have someone call you. Come quickly, we’ve got chicken meat and soup to enjoy!”

Zhou Zongbao stretched out his finger towards them, trembling with anger, and shouted loudly, “Easier said than sung, send someone to call the Young Master? Did you call? The two of you are clearly hogging it all to yourselves, caught red-handed, and you still try to argue!”

Gu Changsheng glared back immediately. “That’s a complete slander! How am I cooking just for myself? Have you ever seen anyone cook just for themselves with such a big pot?”

Gu Changsheng said this while pointing at the ten-inch big pot. This pot of chicken and soup was enough to feed her whole household of over a dozen people quite satisfyingly. Was this cooking just for herself?

Zhou Zongbao followed her pointing finger and couldn’t help but freeze for a moment. True enough, a big pot filled to the brim–it really didn’t seem like a situation of cooking just for herself…

“Gurgle!”

“Gurgle!”

Two consecutive stomach rumbling noises followed.

Gu Changsheng and Zhou Zongbao exchanged looks and simultaneously looked down at their own stomachs.

“Hehe, I’m a bit hungry…” Gu Changsheng touched her stomach awkwardly. This was somewhat unbecoming, but fortunately, she had Zhou Zongbao for company.

The two were equally starved, neither could mock the other!

Zhou Zongbao also touched his growling stomach, looking at Gu Changsheng, “You didn’t eat that whole table full of radish dishes?”

Raising an eyebrow and curling her lips, Gu Changsheng responded, “I did slightly better than you. I ate four fried radish balls, exactly four!”

As she spoke, she even stretched out four fingers to gesture.

Seeing her like this, Zhou Zongbao angrily glared, “Are you trying to find solace at my expense?”

At least she had eaten four fried radish balls to fill her stomach, while he, faced with a table full of radish dishes, had got filled up with anger and ate nothing!

With a pleased smile on her face, Gu Changsheng said maddeningly, “Certainly! With you here, I’m definitely not the most miserable one!”

“You!” Zhou Zongbao looked like he might explode at any moment.

“Xiao Leizi, quickly, check if the chicken is done!” Gu Changsheng completely ignored the fuming Zhou Zongbao and swiftly switched focus to the pot of chicken.

Delicious! Oh so fragrant!

Gu Changsheng couldn’t help but take in a few deep breaths of the aroma, a look of utter satisfaction on her face.

The Golden Pheasant truly lived up to being a superior breed of wild chicken–this flavor, so pure and authentic! She loved it!

Dong Lei cowered to one side, looking at that large pot with tears in his eyes.

A phoenix! What if it was really a phoenix?

His mischievous wife, always so gluttonous! It was him who had chopped up that phoenix!

“You’re saying there’s chicken in there? Why didn’t I know chicken meat smelled this good?” Zhou Zongbao also stepped closer to the big pot, swallowing his saliva as he spoke.

Gu Changsheng shot him a glance, “When you’re hungry, not just the scent of meat but even a bowl of plain porridge can seem better than the finest delicacies!”

Doesn’t he know the story of Zhu Yuanzhang having rice porridge? Clearly, he’s totally clueless!

“Xiao Leizi, what are you waiting for? I’m so hungry I could eat a horse!” Gu Changsheng seeing Dong Lei staying put on the side, couldn’t help but urge him.

Only then did Dong Lei step forward with a pained expression. Actually, the chicken was already done; he had been simply too afraid to approach.

There was no other dish left at home, but there were still plenty of spices and medicinal herbs. Gu Changsheng personally mixed the seasoning packet for stewing chicken, adding a bit of Ginseng and Shou Wu. The flavor was simply too good!

Watching the chicken being served, Gu Changsheng exchanged a look with her dear son and didn’t wait for Dong Lei to bring it to the dining hall; they started eating right away at the small dining table in Dong Lei’s kitchen.

Zhou Zongbao, of course, wasn’t going to show any weakness.

The three of them held their bowls and devoured the food, tucking in with great gusto.

Watching from the side, Dong Lei’s mouth twitched uncontrollably as he stood frozen.

Half starved, Gu Changsheng could no longer care about much at this point. As his mother used to say, “Eating is paramount,” better eat up first.

The meat of the Golden Pheasant was tender and delicious, the three of them enjoyed it so much that they almost swallowed their own tongues.

Uncle Song, who had gathered the chicken feathers and returned, was shocked at such a sight.

There were still several bowls of chicken meat left on the stove, but Uncle Song and Dong Lei, who knew the truth, were utterly reluctant to move.

“Burp! So full! It was delicious!”

Zhou Zongbao burped rudely, patting his now bulging stomach contentedly.

Seeing him like this, Gu Changsheng couldn’t help but roll his eyes. Dammit, Zhou Zongbao was at least a Prince, while Zhou Mu was only a Commandery Prince, but why was there such a huge difference in their behavior?

No matter when or where, that evildoer Zhou Mu was always extremely elegant and graceful; yet, Zhou Zongbao seemed to lack the demeanor befitting someone from the Imperial Family!

Gu Changsheng couldn’t suppress the internal criticism, thinking that this was a counterfeit product from the Imperial Family!

Comparing people is truly disheartening! In comparison to Zhou Mu, Zhou Zongbao was definitely the one to be tossed aside!

Dong Lei looked at the empty bowl in front of Zhou Zongbao and timidly took a step forward, asking, “Your Highness Prince Bao, would you like another bowl?”

Though he said that, in his heart he was wailing, please don’t add more, you’ve already eaten three large bowls!

“Add more!”

To Dong Lei’s disappointment, Zhou Zongbao let out a satisfied sigh and spat out those two words.

Before Dong Lei could react, Gu Changsheng couldn’t take it anymore, and staring at the mountain of chicken bones in front of Zhou Zongbao, he exclaimed, “Are you a pig? Dammit, you’ve already eaten so much, and you still want more? Aren’t you afraid of bursting?”

She and her son hadn’t even finished one bowl, yet this guy had already devoured three bowls with the ferocity of a sweeping storm!

And yet he still wanted to add more!

“Why can’t I eat? Young Master here hasn’t had his fill yet!” Zhou Zongbao immediately retorted upon hearing this.

Upon hearing that, Gu Changsheng couldn’t help but twitch the corners of his mouth; you’ve eaten enough to burp, and yet you’ve not had your fill?

“But you can’t eat this much, it’s not good for your stomach to eat too much meat on an empty stomach, besides, Foster Father and Uncle Song and Xiao Leizi haven’t eaten yet!” Gu Changsheng disagreed.

Upon hearing this, Uncle Song and Dong Lei immediately shook their heads.

“Lady, we won’t eat!”

Godfather! They really dared not eat!

“Look, they said they won’t eat themselves, just give their share to Young Master!” The moment Zhou Zongbao heard this, he became jovial and looked at them with much friendlier eyes.

Gu Changsheng silently stared at Uncle Song and Dong Lei, feeling that these two must have been sent by Heaven to frustrate her!

“If you bloat your stomach, don’t blame this old lady for not giving you digestion medicine!” Gu Changsheng muttered.

“Are you jealous of Young Master here? Let me tell you, being able to eat is a blessing!” Zhou Zongbao said arrogantly, tilting his neck and completely ignoring Gu Changsheng’s words.

Gu Changsheng gave him a silent look and decided not to argue with a pig.

“Xiao Leizi, take some chicken meat and soup, send it to Foster Father and to Flower Peacock and those boys at home too,” Gu Changsheng turned and instructed Dong Lei, then buried her head and continued eating meat.

Dong Lei and Uncle Song exchanged glances, helplessly shook their heads, and resignedly took the food to be delivered.

Predictably, Zhou Zongbao, who had eaten too much chicken, suffered from indigestion; with no other choice, he had to ask Gu Changsheng for help after running countless laps on the martial arts training ground clutching his stomach.

Gu Changsheng took delight in his misfortune, extorted a thousand taels of silver from him before she would give him digestion soup.

A thousand gold for treatment, ten thousand gold for a life! Just because he is Prince Bao doesn’t mean she should be soft-hearted; not fleecing him thoroughly was already a kindness.

Zhou Zongbao watched the silver note fly out of his hand, watching Gu Changsheng holding the note and laughing with sparkling eyes, on the verge of tears.

Gu Changsheng, this Mother Tigress, was really good at amassing wealth! Even though she already owned a beautiful mansion, she was still so greedy for money!

Seriously! That’s really tacky!

Gu Changsheng couldn’t care less about his opinion. Silver was a wonderful thing, though not omnipotent, but without it, you couldn’t do anything. Her family was large, with many to support; how could she not treasure money?

When it’s time to amass wealth, she must do so ruthlessly! After all, some might find silver too little, but who would find it too much?

Flower Peacock was still in closed-door training, and her Foster Father was even more frustrating for Gu Changsheng, still immersed in military books and not coming out of it.

With nothing better to do, Gu Changsheng took the thousand taels of robbed silver to the Medical Hall, and although there were few seeking her medical advice, she had to show her face daily.

Meanwhile, Yuan Bao received a letter from Ning Er, then shockingly stiffened, and it took a while before he stiffly turned his head like a mummy to look at his Master and said with tears in his eyes, “Master, we don’t need to worry about how to dispose of those two Phoenixes anymore… ”

“Hmm?” Zhou Mu looked up puzzled, gazing at Yuan Bao.

Yuan Bao broke out in cold sweat on his forehead, shaking the letter in his hand and awkwardly replied, “Lady Changsheng cooked those two Phoenixes, by now I reckon all traces of them have been eaten up…”

Lady Changsheng really! Even if you couldn’t recognize them as Phoenixes, you shouldn’t have just eaten them…

“Cooked and eaten?” Zhou Mu’s lips curled slightly, his eyes filled with indulgence as he shook his head, “That does sound like something she would do, eaten is eaten then!”
