Chapter 370: Chapter 244: The Flattering Yuan Bao Chapter 370: Chapter 244: The Flattering Yuan Bao Eunuch Yuan Bao had grown from initially not being able to bear watching to now being completely indifferent to how His Highness spoiled Lady Changsheng!

No matter who it was, after seeing it enough times, they’d become accustomed to it, just like him!

Thus, even though those two “Phoenixes” had been devoured, no one was destined to seek justice for them!

Eunuch Yuan Bao glanced at his master and couldn’t help but shake his head. Meeting Lady Changsheng had completely changed his master, who now did everything he previously would not have condescended to do!

“Sir, how should we handle the situation at the Guest Garden?” Eunuch Yuan Bao rubbed his hands and took a step forward, cautiously asking.

When putting on a play, one must complete the set; it wouldn’t do to start strong and then have no follow-through!

“Hm?” Zhou Mu responded coolly, a hint of darkness flashing through his eyes.

Eunuch Yuan Bao wiped the sweat off his forehead dejectedly, internally screaming in despair.

Alright, his master truly had no awareness of acting!

“Then this servant will take care of sending some things to the Guest Garden. I suppose Miss Huo hasn’t recovered from the wonderful surprise that descended from the sky. Sir, you focus on the military affairs,” Eunuch Yuan Bao resigned himself to taking responsibility.

“Hm.” Zhou Mu finally nodded with satisfaction and continued to check the urgent matters sent from Southern Fujian.

Eunuch Yuan Bao left with a worried frown, wondering what on earth his master was planning. Wouldn’t it have been normal to strike while the iron was hot and elevate Miss Huo to the skies?

Leaving her aside at this time might attract many suitors, which could be problematic.

But whether it was appropriate or not, without his master taking action, he was totally clueless!

Eunuch Yuan Bao shook his head and sighed as he went about his duties.

…

In the Guest Garden of Prince Mu’s Mansion.

“Miss, why aren’t you going out after attracting such a propitious omen of Hundred Birds Paying Homage to the Phoenix?” Ru Yu carefully asked, “Even if you don’t want to deal with that vile Gu Changsheng, you should at least meet with His Highness Prince Mu!”

Seeing her young miss embroidering so leisurely as if nothing had happened, Ru Yu couldn’t help but feel anxious.

Her major grudge from being shot through the shoulder hadn’t been avenged yet! Had her miss forgotten the great humiliation she suffered just a few days ago?

Huo Shuixian, dressed in a flowing dress adorned with moon-white tassels, sat quietly at the embroidery frame, threading her needle. Her long hair swayed with the wind, a faint smile gracing her face. Her dainty fingers moved swiftly, adding an unreally beautiful scene, like something out of a painting.

Hearing her maid speak so, Huo Shuixian let out an almost imperceptible chuckle, her red lips slightly parting as she slowly spoke, “The crowd of onlookers outside has not yet dispersed; it’s better to stay still than to act. The more we keep our doors closed, the more curious they will be.”

Thinking of the humiliations she had suffered in the past few days, a fierce look flickered in Huo Shuixian’s eyes.

Gu Changsheng! What could you do with your arrogant self-confidence? Even the Heavenly Father stands with her, Huo Shuixian. With that vile Gu Changsheng, what could she possibly do to her?

One moment she was disgraced, but now, she, Huo Shuixian, was again rising in reputation, regarded as a Deity!

“Miss, shall we let that vile Gu Changsheng continue to enjoy herself freely?” Ru Yu’s voice unconsciously carried a hint of hatred.

“Hehe!” Huo Shuixian sneered dangerously, her beautiful eyes narrowing menacingly as she spoke word by word, “Free and easy? Let her enjoy a few more days of freedom! The day of reckoning will come when I’ll make her life a living hell!”

Upon hearing this, Ru Yu immediately felt relieved and hurriedly added, “Miss, isn’t it time for you to meet His Highness Prince Mu? Having attracted the Hundred Birds Paying Homage to the Phoenix, surely His Highness Prince Mu will look at you differently!”

Ru Yu shouldn’t have mentioned this. Once she did, Huo Shuixian’s gaze turned sharp, sweeping directly towards her.

Ru Yu, startled, quickly bowed her head and shrank her body.

Huo Shuixian stared at her, grinding her teeth, “Even if I hadn’t attracted the Hundred Birds Paying Homage to the Phoenix, Brother Mu would have regarded me differently! He was only momentarily blinded by that vile Gu Changsheng, which is why he has kept his distance from me!”

“Yes, yes, Miss is right! You and His Highness Prince Mu are childhood sweethearts, matched by heaven, naturally a perfect pair. That vile Gu Changsheng is merely a passing fancy of His Highness. Miss, you needn’t worry about her. When His Highness comes back to his senses, that vile person will still be at your disposal,” Ru Yu dared not say anything else, naturally picking words that Huo Shuixian liked to hear.

Hearing this, Huo Shuixian visibly relaxed and a determined smile appeared on her face.

“Miss, but it’s been quite a while and there’s been no reaction from His Highness Prince Mu,” Ru Yu looked worriedly towards the door. The garden, once filled with people drawn by the strange fragrance, was now quiet again, with only the faint sounds of commoners’ adoration coming from outside the Prince’s Mansion.

Upon hearing Ru Yu’s words, Huo Shuixian glanced at her confidently, asserting, “Brother Mu, who is inherently cold and proudly solitary to the bone, would never show his feelings because of such divine events. Even if he has thoughts, he won’t act on them immediately.”

Ru Yu suddenly realized and hurriedly nodded, “Indeed, it’s still Miss who understands His Highness. I am ignorant.”

Huo Shuixian ignored Ru Yu’s self-deprecation and lowered her head to continue embroidering.

“Is Miss Huo here? Is Miss Huo around?”

Just as Huo Shuixian picked up the embroidery needle, loud shouts came from outside the Guest Garden.

Ru Yu, surprised and delighted, looked toward her young mistress. “Miss, it’s Eunuch Yuan Bao!”

Huo Shuixian smiled and nodded, having recognized Yuan Bao’s voice as well, “What are you waiting for? Why aren’t you going out to welcome him?”

Upon hearing this, Ru Yu bowed and hurriedly went out to greet him.

Soon after, Yuan Bao entered with his cherubic and smiling face, slightly bowed to Huo Shuixian, and said, “I’ve seen Miss Huo.”

Huo Shuixian looked at the forward yet respectful Yuan Bao with inner disdain, but her face showed none of it, maintaining a slight, distant smile that was both aloof and dignified.

Yuan Bao, seeming unbothered, waved and signaled the Little Eunuch Si Xi to step forward with a bamboo basket, saying, “Miss Huo, these are some melons and fruits tributed from the south. The County Prince’s Mansion only received one basket of them, and His Lordship instructed Yuan Bao to bring them all to you.”

Upon hearing this, Ru Yu’s face lit up with a delighted smile and she excitedly asked, “Miss?”

Huo Shuixian, seeing her maid’s decorum lapse, quickly gave her a look to remind her to maintain her composure.

“Then, please convey my thanks to Brother Mu on my behalf, Eunuch Yuan Bao. Shuixian is currently embroidering Buddhist scriptures to pray for my mother’s swift recovery and won’t be able to personally go and thank Brother Mu,” Huo Shuixian said, while assuming a concerned expression.

Yuan Bao, hearing this, glanced toward the embroidery stand, took a quick look, and promptly withdrew his gaze, bowing and saying, “In that case, Yuan Bao will take his leave now. If Miss Huo needs anything, she can always send someone to inform Yuan Bao.”

“Mm.” Huo Shuixian nodded slightly, her demeanor reserved and noble, truly befitting a noble lady of high repute.

Yuan Bao, internally rolling his eyes, dragged the daydreaming Si Xi and walked out.

“Hey, hey, Lord Yuan Bao, why are you rushing out like that? Si Xi hasn’t had enough time to look!” Complaining as he was dragged along, Xiao Si Xi expressed his dismay.

“Look? Look at what? What is there to see?” Yuan Bao, seeing no one around, couldn’t help but knock Si Xi on the head.

Rubbing his head, Xiao Si Xi protested, “Gorgeous! Everything’s gorgeous! She’s beautiful, her clothes are beautiful, and she’s filial! There’s no one more beautiful than Miss Huo!”

Yuan Bao gave him a look, “Filial? Which of your eyes saw her being filial?”

Lady Huo had been ill for a few days, and apart from regular prayers, he had not seen Miss Huo attend to the illness!

“Isn’t Miss Huo embroidering Buddhist scriptures to pray for Lady Huo’s well-being? Isn’t that filial piety?” Xiao Si Xi argued, with his innocent eyes wide open.

Yuan Bao, hearing this, knocked him on the head again, scolding as if hating that iron couldn’t turn into steel, “Seeing is believing, hearing is deceiving. That embroidery frame clearly shows a pair of mandarin ducks playing in water. Miss Huo is obviously telling blatant lies, and only a fool like you who doesn’t think things through would believe her! You better smarten up!”

“Uh…” Xiao Si Xi stood in disbelief upon hearing this.

His mind’s perfect goddess, why would she be like this?

Reluctantly, Xiao Si Xi wanted to ask further, but Yuan Bao had already walked away, massaging his face and ignoring him.

Yuan Bao walked on, massaging the muscles of his face, thinking, alright, this visit to the Guest Garden almost froze his face into a permanent smile; he really wasn’t cut out for this kind of sycophantic work!

Yet, the drama had just begun; when would it ever end?

Thinking about this gave Yuan Bao a wave of heartache.

Within the Guest Garden, as Yuan Bao’s figure disappeared, Ru Yu quickly turned back and jubilantly congratulated her mistress, “Congratulations, Miss! You have finally cleared the clouds to see the moonlight. His Highness Prince Mu must truly be having a change of heart!”

Huo Shuixian gently opened the bamboo basket with her delicate hands, eyeing the full basket of fragrant melons, her happiness reaching her eyebrows, and she nodded ever so slightly, “Brother Mu is as proud as ever, but Yuan Bao’s attitude has already shown a change.”

“If Brother Mu’s heart wasn’t pleased with me, with Yuan Bao’s disdainful and arrogant nature, why would he stoop to flatter so abjectly?”

“Yes, yes, yes! Ever since we moved into this Guest Garden, Eunuch Yuan Bao never showed a good face; you didn’t see his flattering smile just now, almost as if he was squeezing out a flower. It nearly disgusted me to death,” Ru Yu added fiercely, quick to speak up.

“He is just a servant, after all. Once I become the rightful mistress of the County Prince’s Mansion, he will be the first one to suffer!” Huo Shuixian scoffed disdainfully, “Go wash these fruits and remember to send some to Brother Mu. How can I hog such precious fruits all to myself? Naturally, I must share them with Brother Mu!”

“Yes, this servant will do it now,” Ru Yu responded immediately. Though she had a shoulder injury, it had not hurt her bones or tendons; except for one arm that couldn’t move, it didn’t affect anything else.

Huo Shuixian watched her maid’s movements, her lips curling and eyes glinting coldly as she murmured to herself, “This is just the beginning…”
