Clan Rise: Starting as a Grandfather

Chapter 787: Chapter 597 Young Master, Let’s Rebel!_2

So, Yang Mingzhao became the big boss here.

”Young Master, this year’s harvest is very good, we will not be short of food this year!” Chen Buyu, carrying a longbow, followed behind Yang Mingzhao, beaming with joy.

As Yang Mingzhao was causing trouble outside, he naturally couldn’t use his real name, so he assumed the alias Yang Zhao.

However, Chen Buyu only knew that Yang Mingzhao came from an extraordinary background, but he did not know the real details of Yang Mingzhao.

”What about other things? Just say whatever you lack, I’ll send people to buy them!” Yang Mingzhao acted like a foolish son of a landlord, not at all stingy with money.

”We are out of salt and cotton cloth, and if possible, get some more farming tools. This year, we’ve continued to take in hundreds of people who still need to clear fields!” Chen Buyu said.

In the mountains, they lacked everything, and their identities were also a problem; buying things was troublesome.

Yang Mingzhao turned his head to look at the attendants behind him and said, ”Old Han, Ma Yan, you two go to Dachang County and find Li Dagui; ask him to buy more stuff, um, if possible, buy a few cattle to bring back as well!”

He had two servants and four guards by his side; both Old Han and Li Dagui were his guards, originally servants bought by the Yang family early on, while Ma Yan was his servant, whose grandfather was Ma San, the Yang family’s original groom.

Ma San had passed away ten years ago, but his son and grandson still served the Yang family. Ma Yan had followed Yang Mingzhao since childhood and had been with him for fifteen or sixteen years now.

”Yes!” Old Han responded without saying anything else.

Ma Yan wanted to say something but stopped and did not speak; he only glanced at Lu Bo beside him.

Lu Bo showed a helpless expression.

Lu Bo was also a servant of Yang Mingzhao, even earlier than Ma Yan, since his grandfather was Lu Shou.

Both of them were helpless about Yang Mingzhao mixing with a bunch of bandits; it would be unthinkable if it were known that Mr. Si, a dignitary of the Yang family, had become the big boss of a band of bandits.

Moreover, if the head of the family found out about this, they would definitely be punished.

Unfortunately, they had already advised Yang Mingzhao many times, but Yang Mingzhao simply would not listen.

Old Han and Ma Yan left the valley to buy things in Dachang County, while Yang Mingzhao returned to the village with Chen Buyu.

There were four villages in the valley, the largest village at the entrance to the valley served as a garrison; it was actually a fortified castle, built by Yang Mingzhao in the style of the garrison at Chongshan Town.

The outer walls were over four meters high, set at the entrance of the valley, and outside the fortress was a narrow mountain road, only two or three people could pass side by side.

The fortress stood there imposingly, like a guard who could block a passage against ten thousand men.

Apart from the village at the entrance, the other three villages were inside the valley, and the deeper the location, the more recent their establishment.

They gradually cleared and established these villages one by one.

Inside the fortress, Yang Mingzhao had a courtyard, not large, with just five rooms.

Back at the fortress, Yang Mingzhao and Chen Buyu started drinking tea in the hall.

”This tea is really delicious!” Chen Buyu couldn’t help but praise again.

Wouldn’t it be?

This is Dongling Spring!

”Do you still have some left from last time?” Yang Mingzhao casually sipped his tea.

”There is some left, I’ve been reluctant to drink it!” Chen Buyu grinned.

”Don’t save it, this tea benefits cultivation, since I gave it to you, you should drink it. This time I brought another two kilograms for you, just drink it!” Yang Mingzhao said indifferently.

A son is not pained selling his father’s fields. In the Capital City, Dongling Spring is a priceless good; a kilogram can cost at least two to three thousand taels of Silver, and Yang Mingzhao casually gives away two kilograms.

”I’ve also brought ten kilograms of alcohol, all beneficial for cultivation, don’t waste it!”

”By the way, what’s your cultivation level now?”

Chen Buyu said: ”Postnatal Fourth Layer!”

”Too low!” replied Yang Mingzhao.

Chen Buyu stroked his goatee beard, ”Young Master, I am only thirty years old!”

Yang Mingzhao glanced at him, ”I am only twenty-six years old, but my cultivation has already reached the Postnatal Fifth Layer!”

...

Chen Buyu did not speak, but he muttered in his heart: ”You are a freak, I am not a freak.”

Is Chen Buyu’s cultivation low?

Actually, it’s not!

Chen Buyu became a Martial Artist at fifteen, achieved the Refining Power Level at eighteen, and broke through to the Postnatal Realm at twenty. With his talent, he was indeed qualified to enter the Martial Arts Pavilion.

However, ever since hiding in the mountains, even eating had become a problem, and his cultivation had also fallen behind.

Until he was still at the Postnatal First Layer at twenty-five, but later with the support of Yang Mingzhao, life in the valley improved, and his cultivation began to see new progress.

Chen Buyu did not want to discuss cultivation anymore and changed the subject, saying: ”Young Master, I’m afraid the valley can no longer accommodate more people!”

Yang Mingzhao asked, ”Haven’t you found other places that could be reclaimed?”

Chen Buyu shook his head, ”No, there are mountains all around us for dozens of miles. Although there are places that could barely be reclaimed for farming, the water usage is extremely inconvenient, and I estimate it would not produce much grain!”

Yang Mingzhao frowned, although the grain in the valley was currently self-sufficient, the number of common people coming over for refuge had been increasing over the past two years.

Their existence here was not unknown; in fact, the local populace had known about this place a long time ago, and even given it a catchy name.

Three Arrows Valley!

Why is it called Three Arrows Valley?

Because Chen Buyu had a nickname called Chen Sanjian.

Not only did the local populace know about the existence of Three Arrows Valley, but the government also knew, and even two years ago, the government had gathered hundreds of local braves to attack Three Arrows Valley.

As a result, Chen Buyu killed six men with three arrows—indeed, six men with three arrows, two with one arrow!

Thus, Chen Buyu earned the nickname Chen Sanjian, and this valley came to be known as Three Arrows Valley.

”What are you thinking?” Yang Mingzhao asked.

Chen Buyu hesitated for a moment and said: ”Young Master, should we not attack the county town?”

”Attack the county town? For what?” Yang Mingzhao was puzzled.

”To rebel!” Chen Buyu said.

”...”

Suddenly, Yang Mingzhao felt he had a big problem.

Rebel?

Rebel against whom?

I have two martial brothers, one is the Crown Prince and the other is Prince An.

I have a nephew who is Marquis Jing’an of Da Rong.

I have a few cousins who are Assistant Generals or Guerrilla Generals of Da Rong.

I also have a bunch of clan nephews who are Military Officers in the court.

You want me to rebel?

”How could you think of rebelling?” Yang Mingzhao asked.

Chen Buyu said: ”Black Tiger King has occupied four counties in Bozhou State, Nine Heavens King has occupied three counties in Wusa Prefecture, Shunan Xingdu Commander Ma He occupies six counties in Shu Nan, all asserting their power! Besides, there are eighteen rebel groups in action!”

”Young Master, if we could also occupy one or two counties, life wouldn’t have to be this hard!”

Yang Mingzhao broke into a sweat and said: ”Do you not know that rebellion leads to death!”

”If I was afraid of death, I wouldn’t have killed the County Magistrate back then!” Chen Buyu said.

Yang Mingzhao said: ”Listen to me, there’s no future in rebellion.”

”How is there no future? Black Tiger King has held Bozhou for four years, and yet the court has still not eradicated him!” Chen Buyu seemed like a creepy old man tempting Yang Mingzhao with a lollipop.

”That’s because the court hasn’t seriously quelled the rebellion; the court’s power is far stronger than you imagine!” Yang Mingzhao said.

Chen Buyu is just a bandit, really, just a bandit.

His father was merely a Hundred Households; he has never left Kui Prefecture in his life, though he has heard a lot about the court, his understanding of it has significant gaps.

But Yang Mingzhao’s understanding of the court also has a huge flaw, as he believes the court’s power is very strong.

Indeed, the current power of the court is indescribably strong compared to the rebels of Bashu.

However, the current power of the court is far not as strong as Yang Mingzhao imagines.

Yang Mingzhao’s understanding of the court remains stuck over ten years ago, still fixed on the time at Chongshan Town.

Yet, more than a decade has passed, and today’s court is no longer the court of the past, but Chongshan Town is still the Chongshan Town of the past.
