Clan Rise: Starting as a Grandfather

Chapter 715: Chapter 563 Chongshan Town Upheaval

After chatting leisurely for a long time, Wang Bin said, “In the future, Wang Sheng might need the Marquis to take more care of him!”

Yang Zhenshan smiled and replied, “That’s easy, once Wang Sheng comes to the Capital City, I’ll find him a position in the imperial guard!”

Given Wang Sheng’s abilities and strength, it wouldn’t be a problem for him to serve as a mid-level official in the imperial guard. As for a higher position, it would be difficult for Yang Zhenshan to arrange.

After all, the imperial guard was not his territory. Lu Baishu could give him some face, but he couldn’t meddle in their affairs.

“That’s good. I’m not asking for him to be rich and noble, I just want him to be safe and stable!” Wang Bin gratefully looked at Yang Zhenshan.

With Yang Zhenshan’s current status, he actually didn’t need to deal with the Wang family’s affairs.

Yang Zhenshan’s willingness to take care of the Wang family only showed that he was a person who cherished old relationships.

He was grateful for Yang Zhenshan’s care for him and his son and was glad that he had formed this bond with Yang Zhenshan many years ago.

Suddenly, Yang Zhenshan remembered something, “How old is Wang Sheng’s second son this year?”

Wang Bin looked up surprisedly, somewhat puzzled why he suddenly asked this.

“He’s sixteen this year!”

“What’s his temperament like?” Yang Zhenshan asked.

Although Wang Bin was more curious, he still answered truthfully, “He’s a bit reserved, but a good kid. He grew up in the Iron Origin Guard, and as you know, my days in the Iron Origin Guard were not easy, and he also endured a lot of hardship!”

It wasn’t exactly hardship, but they didn’t enjoy much luxury either.

In a poor place like the Iron Origin Guard, there was nowhere to enjoy luxuries.

“Is he betrothed?” Yang Zhenshan asked.

Wang Bin was taken aback, “No.”

“Bring him to see me some day!” Yang Zhenshan said.

He wanted to marry Yang Wanting to Wang Sheng’s second son, but he wanted to see him first; the family values of the Wang family were pretty good, definitely better than those of Liu Zhe’s family.

The Liu family had a tradition of taking concubines; Liu Yuanfu, nearly sixty, had recently taken a young concubine, and Liu Zhe was notoriously flirtatious. Although he only had one concubine at home, he frequented brothels in his youth.

By comparison, the Wang family didn’t have as many romantic entanglements; Wang Bin only had one wife, and although Wang Sheng had both a wife and a concubine, he seldom engaged in flings.

Both the Liu family and the Wang family were under Yang Zhenshan’s scrutiny, and when it came to matching family statuses, naturally, neither could compare to the current status of the Yang family.

Yang Zhenshan didn’t care about that; moreover, he thought it might be advantageous for his granddaughter to marry into a family of lower status.

With a strong maternal family, his granddaughter would have more confidence in her husband’s family and wouldn’t have to constantly accommodate them. If she ever felt wronged, divorce was always an option.

“What does the Marquis think?” Wang Bin asked with some surprise.

Yang Zhenshan waved his hand, “Don’t be hasty. My granddaughter is very precious; if your grandson is not up to the mark, let’s pretend I never mentioned this!”

“We are old friends, and I won’t sugarcoat it: if it’s suitable, all is well; if not, don’t resent me for not cherishing old ties. Besides, we still need to see what my granddaughter thinks. If she doesn’t fancy your grandson, then don’t come asking me for favors.”

Wang Bin burst out laughing, “I understand, I understand!”

Yang Zhenshan even considering marrying into their family made him very joyful. As for whether it could happen, he certainly wouldn’t force it.

It would be best if they could marry into each other’s families, but if not, the Wang family would still cling to the fortunes of the Yang family.

“Let’s go drink! I have prepared Drunken Immortal Brew today, guaranteed to knock you off your feet!”

Seeing that it was getting late, Yang Zhenshan then pulled Wang Bin away to drink.

…

In the warm March sun, the temperature in the Capital City had already warmed up.

The warm sunshine and the tender sprouts decorated the entire Capital City with vibrant life.

This spring, the Yang family was always bustling with excitement. Firstly, Yang Chengxian’s marriage was settled, with the bride being Uncle Anshun’s Zhu Rong’s daughter Zhu Mingqiu, a very well-behaved girl, modest and gentle in appearance, yet also sprightly, not the weak submissive type.

Yu Qingyi, Ms. Wang, and Yang Yunyan all thought this girl was quite good, and Wu Zheng found no stains in her background. Hence, Yang Zhenshan agreed to this marriage.

The two families had already settled the marriage contract, and were now discussing the wedding date, which was likely to be in June or July.

Next was Yang Wanting’s marriage; Yang Zhenshan eventually chose Wang Sheng’s second son. It wasn’t that Liu Zhe’s grandson was bad, but Liu Zhe’s grandson was a bit too clever for his liking, clearly the type who would pursue the imperial examinations.

Such bright young prospects often carry an air of arrogance; they might have a limitless future, but might not necessarily make good spouses.

Yang Zhenshan historically did not choose suitors who were excessively talented, as he believed the best match for a woman was a husband she could have a stable life with.

People like Jiang He and Liang Jinyan, both mild and steady men, might not bring great wealth and honor in the future, but they could provide a stable home for their wives and children.

Qu Changkong was an exception; that was Yang Wanqing’s own choice. Yang Wanqing’s life in the Qu family was certainly not as easy as Yang Yunxue’s in the Liang family.

Because Yang Wanqing had to bear many responsibilities and obligations in the Qu family, giving birth to children alone might require her to constantly accommodate others.

By comparison, Yang Yunxue faced no such pressures in the Liang family. Liang Jinyan didn’t need to inherit the marquis position, nor did he have many responsibilities; the couple just needed to enjoy their own life.

Thus, Yang Yunyan and Yang Yunxue both led very comfortable lives now.

Wang Sheng’s second son was named Wang Qianzhong. With an elder brother to inherit the family business and younger half-brothers to support each other, his character was honest and dependable, with a tall and sturdy physique, and his appearance was also not bad, quite more handsome than Wang Sheng.
