Journey of the Fate Destroying Emperor

Chapter 1903: The Final Battle X: The Mark of Death

Wang Wei glanced at his right arm and saw a mark: a black ouroboros with a river inside, an unknown creature on a boat holding a scythe. He frowned before asking, ”A mark of your lord?”

”Did you really think you could truly protect yourself from the Lordʼs eyes?” Death Reverence sneered. ”However, I must give you credit. You protected your [Existence] quite well, forcing me to take this long to inject enough death power into your body to activate the mark and turn you into the perfect vessel.”

Wang Wei was about to say something when he suddenly felt his spirit ascend to a spiritual realm. There was nothing around except endless emptiness. However, soon enough, a pair of dark eyes larger than stars materialized in front of him.

”These eyes looked like mine,” Wang Wei thought. This idea suddenly overtook his mind to the point that Wang Wei couldnʼt stop staring. However, the more he stared, the more his eyes turned to look at this pair of dark eyes. The worst part is that even Ai seemed entranced by them.

”Wake up!” A deep roar from the depths of his soul suddenly woke Wang Wei up, and he felt his back drenched in sweat. Years ago, he had sealed a special soul deep within his Sea of Consciousness to monitor his behavior because he had once begun to treat his family as nothing but pawns. And now, it was coming to the rescue.

”Ai, use the Anti-Magic as a seal,” Wang Wei roared, and Ai reacted. Avatar B went to all that effort to study and recreate mana or magic that existed in the Beyonderʼs world, all for the purpose of creating Anti-Magic. Wang Wei had previously planned to use it as a final blow to either Death Reverence, Future Reverence, or even a summoned projection of the Beyonder, but now, he had no choice.

A unique magic circle appeared around the [Mark of Death], and Wang Wei opened his eyes. He was back in the previous battlefield, half-kneeling on the ground. He slowly stood.

”Youʼre fine? How is that possible?” Death Reverence asked.

”A mark? I truly want to laugh at how unoriginal you people are. But that would be hypocritical of me — ah, who am I kidding? Hypocrisy is in my nature,” Wang Wei said before chuckling.

”Impossible! The mark has been activated. You should have seen the Lordʼs sight. How could you be fine?”

”How could your shitty lord be a match to my intelligence?” Wang Wei sneered.

”Damn you, damn you, I was so close to fulfilling my duty — so close to becoming the lordʼs number one messenger, but you had to ruin it all. I hate you; I want you dead; your existence is a stain on my legacy.”

”Such selfish thoughts and motives? Good,” Wang Wei thought with a hidden smirk.

”Wang Wei — Iʼll kill. Iʼll kill you if itʼs the last thing I do,” Death Reverence reverenced. The madness in his eyes intensified as he immediately sacrificed a significant piece of his soul. And after seeing the target of the sacrifice, Wang Weiʼs previous composure was gone. In an instant, Death Reverence regained twenty Percent of the previous 89% of [Authority] he had controlled.

”Bastard – Die!” Death Reverence turned into a cloud of black mist holding a sword, rushing forward with immense speed.

”Shit,” Wang Wei thought before distancing himself from this madman. Despite how calm and nonchalant he had looked earlier, he was not in the best shape. The destruction of the Lifespan Order-Disorder triggered a minor backlash, reducing his lifespan to less than 5 years. But thatʼs not even the worst news.

The Mark of Death was not completely sealed. And somehow, this thing was also absorbing his lifespan and other stuff — including his strength. And with Death Reverence having regained control over his [Authority], the balance of strength has once again tipped to his side.

Just as Death Reverence was about to stab his opponent, a towering gate manifested in front of Wang Wei, resulting in the Death Knight crashing into it. However, Death Reverence wasnʼt injured by the crash. Instead, he found himself in this isolated universe. He roared to the heavens before releasing a terrifying slash.

His attack should have instantly annihilated the universe. But under Wang Weiʼs control, the slash only opened a spatial portal out of this endless dimension. Death Reverence was too outraged to care, so he rushed out. However, he did not return to the battlefield. Instead, he found himself in this universe full of the power of destruction.

Five knights in dark red armors surrounded him; they first activated their formation before immediately attacking Death Reverence, who instantly realized these guardians were modeled after the Highest Firmament. Swish! The Death Knight did not waste a second. He tapped into even more power at the cost of even more danger to his already frail soul and severely injured [Existence]. And this time around, he succeeded in escaping. The entire universe collapsed under his wrath, and Death Reverence finally returned to the battlefield. But, right at this moment, he saw Wang Wei rushing into this blurry door.

”You want to escape? In your dream.” Today, the only way this bastard can leave is as a corpse. With one step, he teleported in front of the gate and flew directly inside before it disappeared.

”Hmm? Where is this?”

”You have failed me.”

”L-Lord?” Death Reverence glanced at this pair of towering eyes, and he immediately knelt.

”Death Reverence, why have you not brought the vessel back yet?”

”Lord, Iʼm trying my best, but Wang Wei keeps resisting. Itʼs all his fault.”

”Do you think I care about your excuses?”

”No, no, no, I promise Iʼm close to capturing him. I just need a little — Wait, a moment. The Lord always addressed me as Messenger C3, not by my name. Damn it, this is an illusion. No, a deception.”

”You dare speak to me in that manner?” A powerful and domineering voice echoed throughout this spiritual realm.

”Wang Wei,” Death Reverence roared. ”You dare deceive me? You dare imitate my Lord? Curse you.” With one swing of his word, the pair of eyes disintegrated, revealing this strange world. Death Reverence frowned; he had thought his attack was powerful enough to destroy this universe, but it wasnʼt. However, it didnʼt matter. If one swing doesnʼt work, heʼll use a second.

Unfortunately, as soon as he raised his hand, Death Reverence stopped. He stared at his hand for a good five seconds. ”Am I holding my sword or not?” The sword was in his hand; he could feel the hardness of the hilt, the sharpness of the blade, and even the immense power of death. But, something in the back of his mind kept telling him this wasnʼt true, that he was being deceived — that the thing in his hand was just an excellent replica created by Wang Wei.

Death Reverence trusted his instinct — all cultivators did. And since he couldnʼt trust the weapon in his hand, the Death Knight focused on something he could trust: his own powers. Death Reverence closed his eyes and sensed the source of his power. A minor smile hung at the corner of his mouth. Then, just as he was about to mobilize this terrifying power, another suspicion entered his mind: what if Wang Wei had sealed his true strength while he was dealing with the fake Lord and even replicated his power to deceive him?

It was entirely possible. The distraction was long enough for it to happen, and more importantly, it was something Wang Wei could do. With his own Death Power and after years of preparing for this fight, he must have learned much.

”The way he easily dealt with the Mark of Death is suspicious. Itʼs almost as if he were too familiar with the Lordʼs power and even created a counter. But, is he really that intelligent?” Death Reverence clenched his fists. He was so close to completing the mission perfectly, but that damn bastard had to put up such a fight. Couldnʼt he have just accepted his fate? How many people would gladly give their lives to be the Lordʼs vessel? How dare he resist?

”Wang Wei — how dare you resist? I will kill you to wash away this shame.”

Death Reverence sacrificed an even larger piece of his soul to forcefully pull out more [Authority] from the obsession spirits. Then, through the very code of reality itself, he traced the truth of Heaven and Earth, breaking from all of Wang Weiʼs illusion and deception.

The world collapsed, and Death Reverence found himself in a place surrounded by something he was familiar with: the power of death. He breathed in excitedly, ignoring the fact that his body was almost transparent. His red eyes shifted to Wang Wei. ”I wonʼt give you another chance.”

”Itʼs too late,” Wang Wei shook his head as he continued to digest the pill he had just taken. His remaining lifespan was only 1 year, so he desperately needed to nurture it. Luckily, he now had more than enough time.

”What do —”

Death Reverence immediately held his face and began to moan; he was in terrible pain.
