I Married the President

Chapter 489: Chapter 489: A Suspicion of Moral Blackmail

[If you didn’t want to come, you shouldn’t have! Who are you putting on that sour face for? You think you’re so great just because you’re Young Master Quincy’s girlfriend? He’ll probably dump you any day now!]

[Heh. I can’t stand shameless women like you.]

[I remember Claire Sinclair got a ton of presents for her birthday, right? And now she doesn’t have money to buy a gift for our Ceci? How stingy can you get!]

...

As expected, Claire Sinclair was once again being viciously flamed online.

Claire Sinclair gave a cold smirk. ’This is only the beginning.’

As she walked into the main hall, Cecily Taylor came over enthusiastically. But when she saw that Claire Sinclair was alone, her expression faltered. Still, she managed to maintain some decorum.

”Professor Sinclair, why did you come alone? Where’s Young Master Quincy?”

”Mr. Quincy was tired, so he’s resting at the hotel. He won’t be coming,” Claire Sinclair stated matter-of-factly.

Cecily Taylor frowned. She was disappointed, but more than that, she was irritated. ”Well, in that case, feel free to do as you wish. I have to go greet my other guests, so I can’t attend to you for now.”

Claire Sinclair smiled and said bluntly, ”Go on, attend to your guests. I have things to do later, so I probably won’t be staying for the cake.”

”You—” Cecily Taylor almost lost her temper. But she was the star of the show today and couldn’t do anything to ruin her image. Forcing down her anger, she said, ”Professor Sinclair, since you’re already here, you should at least have a slice of cake. How about this? I’ll have my assistant show you around for a bit. What do you think?”

”That won’t be necessary, Professor Taylor. Please, attend to your guests. I’ll just walk around on my own.”

”Alright then. If you need anything, just find a server.” Cecily Taylor put on a polite expression, but in her head, she had already cursed Claire a thousand times over.

’Damned bitch. Ungrateful and shameless!’

And with that, Cecily Taylor turned and walked away to greet her other guests.

Claire Sinclair wandered through the hall by herself. Before she knew it, she found herself standing in front of a rose-adorned fruit platter. She stopped, took out her phone, logged into her Weibo account, and navigated to the charity section to find the latest crowdfunding campaigns.

On the crowdfunding homepage, there were several urgent campaigns for people who desperately needed money for surgery.

Claire Sinclair donated 500,000 yuan to four different people in need, one after the other. She shared the donations to her Weibo and finally posted a message: The death benefits my sister left me have finally been put to good use.

After the post went out, her fans went wild.

[Hahaha... My goddess is always so unpredictable, full of surprises and scares.]

[I suspect Claire Sinclair is trying to guilt-trip the certain someone whose birthday it is, but I have no proof.]

[Molly Sinclair, are you trying to remind that certain someone celebrating her birthday to remember to do some charity work after the party’s over?]

[I don’t think she’s just reminding the birthday girl, but also all the people who gave presents. Don’t forget to do charity!]

[This is the first time I’ve ever found guilt-tripping to be kind of cute, hahaha...]

Claire Sinclair read her fans’ comments and couldn’t help but let out a resigned smile.

’It’s true that it looks like I’m trying to guilt-trip her, but that wasn’t my only intention.’

’The reason I deliberately chose today to donate two million yuan was simply to show the world that I’d rather give that money to people in need than use it to keep up appearances.’

’Only an idiot would spend two million on some flashy, impractical birthday gift just to satisfy the vanity of a certain someone—or even a portion of those sick-minded netizens.’

’Besides, it’s not like she and Cecily Taylor were close.’

Tch...

’People with different principles can’t walk the same path. She and that kind of woman were fated never to be friends.’
