I Married the President

Chapter 193: Chapter 193: Why Are You Still So Naive?

She had run through so many scenarios in her head...

’Will I have to serve them tea when I meet them?’

’I should remember to help clear the table after dinner, otherwise they’ll say I’m a lazy daughter-in-law.’

’What if his mother asks me to stay the night?’

She had even, ridiculously, worried, ’What if they demand I give them a bouncing baby boy?’

’I’m so weak; there’s no way I could have a bouncing baby boy!’

She had considered so many possibilities, but not a single one matched her current situation.

’Adrian Quincy, you promised you’d handle everything.’

’So what is this supposed to be?’

’Claire Sinclair, how can you still be so naive?’

Her heart shattered in an instant, beyond any hope of repair.

’That’s right. I’m so weak, so incompetent, so useless, with not a single redeeming quality. On what grounds do I deserve to be with the highly acclaimed Adrian Quincy?’

’Claire Sinclair, the dream is over. It’s time to wake up.’

Claire Sinclair clutched her stinging, burning face, watching helplessly as Adrian Quincy desperately held back his frantic mother. She watched his father trying in vain to persuade her from the side, and she watched Yara Quincy’s indifferent yet smug smile. Her heart sank deeper and deeper into despair.

In the end, she said nothing, simply turned, and ran.

Seeing his wife leave in tears, Adrian Quincy turned to chase after her.

But Mrs. Quincy grabbed his arm. ”Adrian, if you dare go after her, I’ll disown you! It’s me or that vixen. Today, you choose!”

A bloodthirsty chill suddenly clouded Adrian Quincy’s cold, dark eyes. He said flatly, ”Mother, since when did you become so utterly unreasonable?”

Mrs. Quincy was struck speechless by her son’s piercing question.

Adrian Quincy glanced at the smiling Yara Quincy, his brow furrowing slightly. Without a word, he turned and ran in the direction Claire had gone.

To better complement his six-foot-two frame, Claire Sinclair had specifically worn high heels.

Running in high heels was not a wise choice. As she ran, she suddenly twisted her ankle. Her body pitched forward uncontrollably, and she ended up face-planting on the ground.

’What the hell? Even my shoes are against me!’

Claire Sinclair scrambled up in frustration, kicked off her high heels, and tossed them to the side of the road. Then she got back on her feet and kept running.

She had rarely walked barefoot since she was a child, let alone run. A searing pain quickly shot through the soles of her feet, but she refused to stop.

’Claire Sinclair, if it’s not right, it’s not right. Don’t look back. The moment you look back, you’ve lost...’

’Just keep running. Run while you still have the strength. Run far, far away to a place where nobody knows you, and then you can hide and lick your wounds clean.’

’Someone like you who doesn’t know her place deserves to be humiliated...’

She thought about many things, her thoughts a chaotic mess, and her vision grew increasingly blurry.

Suddenly, a figure flashed before her. An arm seized her forcefully, and she was yanked violently into his embrace.

The car that had nearly hit her drove away.

The next second, she heard his rapid, frantic heartbeat, a rhythm that matched the pace at which her own heart was bleeding.

Adrian Quincy held the girl’s soft, pliant body tightly, his voice raw and hoarse. ”Claire, stop running. It’s dangerous.”

”Let go of me.” Claire Sinclair spoke, pushing him away at the same time.

Adrian Quincy only held her tighter, so tight it began to hurt. ”Claire, I’m sorry. I never expected this to happen. I’m sorry.”

”You have nothing to be sorry for. It was your mother... she made me see how rotten I am. Worthless, second-hand trash like me doesn’t deserve you. Just let me go.”

She struggled the entire time she spoke, but the man refused to let her go.
