I Married the President

Chapter 178: Chapter 178: The Silent Treatment Hurts the Most

Claire Sinclair moved her lips, but she didn’t know how to reply.

’Even after he said all that, I’m still the weak one...’

Adrian Quincy gazed into her soft, watery eyes, not letting her look away. ”You can’t keep up with my pace. It’s not that you’re incapable; I’m just too fast.”

He paused, then deliberately added, ”If you think Logan Linden’s speed is what’s normal, I’ll try my best to slow down that much for you next time so you can adjust.”

”...”

’Why do I get the feeling this conversation is going off the rails?!’

”Claire, when I love someone, I won’t let her grow old alone. The day you’re old, I’ll be a wrinkly old man too. When that time comes, I hope I can still be holding your hand as we grow old and pass away together. That’s the kind of love I believe in.”

”...”

’So... has he really fallen in love with me?’

Claire Sinclair stared dazedly into his deep, affectionate eyes. ”The way you put it... I think I’m starting to understand.”

”Are you sure you understand?”

Claire Sinclair nodded.

”Summarize it for me.”

”!!!”

’So he wasn’t confessing his love to me just now. He was giving me a ”vivid and moving” lecture on his philosophy!’

”To summarize... you like me.”

”And?”

”...” ’That’s it!’

’What else could there be?’

Claire Sinclair looked at him quizzically, hoping he would just give her the answer.

”Claire, what about you? How do you feel about me?”

”I...” ’It’s so embarrassing to say it out loud.’

”Hm?” The man hummed, the sound deep and alluring.

Blushing, Claire Sinclair found the words she was about to say swallowed by a sudden growl from her stomach.

”I’m hungry.”

”There’s nothing to eat here. Let’s go to my place.”

With that, Adrian Quincy took her hand and led her out.

Once they were in the car, Claire Sinclair realized he was still holding her hand, showing no sign of letting go.

’This feeling of being cherished in the palm of his hand... it’s actually quite nice...’

Just as she was about to say something, he spoke up. ”Next time, don’t storm off without a word when you’re angry. It can be dangerous.”

”I know...” ’I was wrong, okay?’

Claire Sinclair turned to look at his handsome face. His eyes were closed. ’Is he meditating?’

”What are you thinking about?”

”I’m thinking about why you suddenly got angry and left.”

’Does he have nothing better to think about?!’

Still, she really wanted to know his conclusion. ”So, did you figure it out?”

Adrian Quincy’s eyes snapped open to meet hers. ”The problem probably isn’t me. Did Yara say something to you?”

’That’s scary. He even guessed that!’

’I felt a pang of guilt. Was this what people called throwing a tantrum for no reason, or was I just getting arrogant because he spoiled me?’

’No matter what, I was the one in the wrong this time.’

”Actually, she didn’t say anything to me. On the contrary, she barely paid me any attention, and I just felt... that she might have trouble accepting me as her sister-in-law...”

’So her unreasonable behavior did have a reason. The silent treatment is what hurts the most; it can easily destroy a person’s resolve.’

Adrian Quincy realized that, in the end, it was still his fault.

”We’ll find a time, and I’ll take you back to my hometown to meet my family.”

”Huh?”

’Can I say no???’

...

The car slowly entered the Quincy Manor grounds and stopped in front of the fountain.

Claire Sinclair got out of the car first, eager to find something to eat.

Just then, a petite figure emerged from the mansion, instantly erasing Claire’s good mood.

Yara Quincy walked over, acting as if Claire wasn’t there. She stopped in front of Adrian Quincy, who had just gotten out of the other side of the car. ”Brother, Mom sent me to discuss Grandpa’s 90th birthday party. This might be his last birthday, so she hopes you can spare some time.”
