Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 1334: She doesn’t like me

“First, dry your hair.”

Seeing that Jing Xiaocha didn’t take it, Wen Jin took the towel and handed it to her again.

Jing Xiaocha hesitated for a moment before taking the towel and unconsciously wiped her hair. She stubbornly bit her lips, determined not to let herself cry in front of strangers.

“Zhang Minghui is in my dad’s office right now, I’ll go and bring him down shortly.”

“Who is Zhang Minghui?”

Wen Jin looked at Gu Kai with confusion.

“He is the son of Zhang Jinlei.” Jing Xiaocha said.

Gu Kai gestured with his eyes for Wen Jin to watch over Jing Xiaocha and then left the office to go upstairs and find Zhang Minghui.

Wen Jin went to close the door and then returned in front of the sofa, his eyes calmly on Jing Xiaocha, “I heard from Ah Kai the other day about your mother’s condition.”

“She’s not sick because she’s afraid of dragging me down; she resents me. She thinks I’m vain and that I caused the death of Zhang Jinlei and his wife for money. That made Zhang Minghui the laughingstock of everyone.”

Jing Xiaocha’s chest heaved violently with emotion, tears streaming down her face, but her eyes were full of defiance.

Wen Jin looked at her with a slight furrow in his brows, “You’re overthinking it. How could your mother use her own life to get revenge on you?”

“You don’t understand; she never liked me. No matter what I do, she never liked me.” Jing Xiaocha sniffed heavily, and Wen Jin handed her some tissues.

“She jumped off the building to make me save Zhang Jinlei.”

Jing Xiaocha took the tissues and wiped away her tears. Her eyes, soaked with tears, looked steadily at Wen Jin, “President Wen, could you do me a favor?”

“What favor?”

Wen Jin asked calmly.

“Please come up with a way to keep Zhang Jinlei out of jail. He actually intended to turn himself in that day. And he confessed the people behind him. Can you consider this and spare him from jail time?”

“This is not up to me to decide. Specifically, we have to look at the current law and see how it is adjudicated.” Wen Jin pondered for a moment, explaining calmly.

Jing Xiaocha’s expression changed, “I know Zhang Jinlei deserves his punishment; he’s made a mistake, and he should pay for his actions. But my mother used her own life to bargain with me, and I have no choice, and as for that Zhang Minghui, I can’t take care of him right now.”

“Your brother’s son? Doesn’t he listen to you?” Wen Jin looked at Jing Xiaocha with confusion.

Jing Xiaocha managed a bitter smile, her words laced with self-mockery: “Indeed, he doesn’t listen to me, and he hates me just like his parents do. Now that he knows I am the cause of his parents’ downfall, he must hate me to death.”

“Jing Xiaocha, you should know, even if Zhang Jinlei goes to jail, it’s not your fault. It’s a consequence of his own actions, and he must bear it himself. If your nephew is really as you say, then you can’t let him be led astray by a father like Zhang Jinlei.”

“No.” Jing Xiaocha pressed her lips tightly, her whole body exuding stubbornness, “I don’t want to have anything to do with them anymore. As long as Zhang Jinlei is safe, Zhang Minghui can follow him. Then I won’t owe them anything.”

From now on, she, Jing Xiaocha, would have nothing to do with the Zhang Family.

She told herself this in her heart.

Wen Jin watched the tears slide down her face, evidently a fragile girl, yet she stubbornly cloaked herself in toughness.

He didn’t know what the relationship between her and her mother was like, but from her words, it was clear that she still loved her mother deeply.

All of a sudden, he thought of Ranran.

Back then, when their parents died in a car accident and he was unconscious, could Ranran have been just as stubbornly strong as Jing Xiaocha?

Every time he thought of Ranran, his heart softened, and he quietly sighed to himself, “I will ask Zhixin for you. If it’s possible to keep Zhang Jinlei out of trouble, that would be best. If not, you needn’t feel guilty. He’s an adult and should take responsibility for his actions.”

“President Wen, thank you.”

Jing Xiaocha gave him a deep bow.

Wen Jin raised his hand but ultimately did not help her up.

“How do you plan to handle your mother’s funeral? Is there any other family at home? If you need any help, you can tell me.”

Wen Jin asked with concern after a moment of silence.

Although he and Jing Xiaocha had only met once, the clues she provided had cleared the name of Wen’s Pharmaceutical Factory, recouping much of their losses.

And because of her stubborn demeanor, she always reminded him of Ranran, prompting a flicker of compassion.

Jing Xiaocha shook her head, “Thank you, President Wen, I can manage on my own.” She had done everything by herself since she was young. Three years ago, when her stepfather died, her brother Zhang Jinlei was on a belated honeymoon with his wife and children, and her mother was hospitalized due to illness.

She, a sixteen-year-old girl, had managed all the funeral arrangements by herself.

Now, she could certainly handle her mother’s affairs alone.

“All right, give me your bank card number, and I will transfer the money to your account.” That day, Wen Jin intended to give her the money, but Jing Xiaocha said there was no rush.

Her mother needed to be hospitalized at Kangning Hospital, and she thought she would just deduct the cost directly from there.

“A loan of one hundred thousand is enough for me, I will pay you back later.” Jing Xiaocha was not a vain or materialistic girl by any means.

Wen Jin felt her mother had genuinely wronged her.

“Tell me your card number.”

He took out his phone, ready to record the number.

Seeing that he was prepared, Jing Xiaocha softly recited a series of numbers. Wen Jin then asked, “Is the name on the card yours?”

“Yes, it’s mine.”

Jing Xiaocha nodded. Footsteps and Gu Kai’s voice came from the hallway, “Behave yourself later, or I’ll hand you over to the police.”

Wen Jin was slightly startled and quickly walked to the door, opening it.

Gu Kai dragged Zhang Minghui in, who either seemed frightened by the scene of his mother jumping to her death, or by the intimidation from Gu Kai just now, and hung his head low.

“Auntie, I don’t want to go to the police station; I don’t want to go to jail.” When Zhang Minghui saw Jing Xiaocha, he didn’t curse at her as he used to. As soon as Gu Kai let go, he ran to her and hugged her legs with both hands.

Jing Xiaocha’s complexion changed as she looked at Zhang Minghui holding onto her legs and burying his face in them, her eyes’ indifference finally cracking with a trace of fragility.

She slowly raised her hand and caressed Zhang Minghui’s head, “If you don’t do wrong, the police won’t arrest you.”

“I’ll be good, Auntie. I’ve lost my dad and mom, and now my grandma too. You can’t neglect me; if you do, I’ll starve to death.”

Jing Xiaocha blinked in surprise and looked up at Gu Kai.

Gu Kai spoke nonchalantly, “Children, especially boys, should not be spoiled. Zhang Minghui has already been led astray by his parents. If his behavior isn’t corrected now, his whole life will be ruined.”

Upon hearing Gu Kai’s voice, Zhang Minghui’s body subconsciously shivered, hugging Jing Xiaocha’s legs even tighter, and looked up at her with pitiful eyes, “Auntie!”
