Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 1314: 1313 Do you want me to help you cover up the lie?

After leaving Fang Zhiwei’s house, Gu Kai had the driver take him to the suburbs, not back to the Gu Family’s home.

The address he gave was Mo Xiuchen’s house, so the driver dropped him off there and, following his orders, left.

Gu Kai glanced at Mo Xiuchen’s villa; lights were on both the first and the second floors. He hesitated but didn’t go in. Instead, he walked along the asphalt road towards another villa not far ahead.

In the deep autumn of the suburbs, there was absolutely no one walking around at this time, and because it was a villa area, Gu Kai walked for a while without seeing any passing vehicles.

The night breeze brushing his face carried a deep chill, which somewhat sobered him up from his dizziness and sleepiness.

Upon reaching the villa in front, he came to a halt.

Looking at the lights on the second floor of the villa, an unnamed warmth inexplicably began to surge in his heart.

A slight curve appeared on his thin lips, and for the first time in thirty-one years, his ink-colored eyes softened with a touch of warmth.

Thinking of something, he frowned slightly, took out his phone, and dialed a number, without taking his eyes off the second floor of the villa.

After several rings, Lu Zhiyan’s voice came through the night, “Hello!”

“Zhixing, are you done with your work?”

“Ah Jin and I just left the prison, what’s up?” Lu Zhiyan’s voice was low and calm, as cool and dispassionate as the deep autumn night.

Hearing this, Gu Kai immediately asked with concern, “You guys went to the prison? Did you find any clues?”

“No clues for now.”

“Do you remember that I asked you to investigate who was threatening Fang Zhiwei?” Gu Kai cut to the chase, withdrew his gaze, took a step forward, leaned on the magnolia tree by the road, and asked in a deep voice.

“Yeah, I remember, but you later said it was Qian Songnan who did it, and we didn’t need to investigate anymore, right?”

Lu Zhiyan asked dubiously; he had been quite busy those days, and when Gu Kai said no further investigation was needed, he stopped looking into it.

“Fang Zhiwei received a letter today, someone told her it was Bai Yiyi who had someone warn her. I just came from her house, and told her that you had already investigated it thoroughly, but the Ah Jin Pharmaceutical Factory’s matters have been holding you back, which is why you hadn’t told her yet.”

“Oh, my gosh, are you telling a lie and want me to cover for you?”

Lu Zhiyan protested over the phone.

Gu Kai’s lips twitched, and the words he spat contained not the slightest hint of apology: “I’m just giving you a heads-up, in case Fang Zhiwei calls you, so you can be prepared.”

“What are you preparing me for when I haven’t investigated anything at all? Young Master Gu, you’re not going to ask me to investigate who Qian Songnan got to scare Fang Zhiwei now, are you?”

Lu Zhiyan clearly didn’t want to get involved.

Gu Kai chuckled lightly, saying nonchalantly, “No, just think about how you’re going to handle Fang Zhiwei when the time comes.”

“I’m busy with something else now, I won’t talk to you anymore.”

Lu Zhiyan snorted, found an excuse, and hung up on Gu Kai.

Qin Mu, standing beside Lu Zhiyan, had heard his entire phone call very clearly. Although the speaker wasn’t on, Qin Mu was right next to Lu Zhiyan, waiting for him to finish the call before getting back in the car.

Consequently, Qin Mu had heard everything Gu Kai said.

With Lu Zhiyan’s response, he didn’t need to ask to know roughly what was going on; at that moment, a smirk that was neither a smile nor a jeer appeared at the corner of his mouth, “Are we going to crack this case now?”

Lu Zhiyan turned to look at Qin Mu and said disgruntledly, “I’m not that idle. Come on, let’s find a place to eat first.”

“After dinner, you’re going back to the station?” Qin Mu asked with a light laugh.

Lu Zhiyan snorted and bent over to get into the car.

Qin Mu’s eyes narrowed slightly as he followed and sat in the car, and Lu Zhiyan beside him asked, “Where shall we go for dinner?”

“Let’s go to Yi Pin Xuan Pavilion,” Qin Mu calmly replied.

“I’ll call Ah Jin and have him come over too,” Lu Zhiyan said as he took out his phone to make a call while driving.

Qin Mu didn’t object: “If Mo Xiuchen is available, call him too.”

“Alright, no problem.” Lu Zhiyan dialed Wen Jin’s number and while waiting for the other side to pick up, he asked, “Should we invite Gu Kai over?” Thinking of that guy’s phone call earlier, he felt annoyed.

Qin Mu started the car, replying nonchalantly, “Up to you, but I guess he won’t be free, probably at Bai Yiyi’s house.”

The call connected, Wen Jin’s voice came through, and Lu Zhiyan went straight to the point, “Ah Jin, Ah Mu and I are heading to Yi Pin Xuan now. Bring Mo Xiuchen, and oh, invite Gu Kai too.”

“Ah Kai? He hurt his hand, didn’t rest during the day, and he should be sleeping right now,” Wen Jin said uncertainly over the phone.

Lu Zhiyan laughed derisively, “He just talked to me over the phone. Call him, and tell him I have something to ask about Fang Zhiwei. If he doesn’t come, I won’t bother anymore.”

Hearing Lu Zhiyan’s threat, Qin Mu couldn’t help but twitch the corner of his mouth.

Clearly oblivious to any information about Fang Zhiwei, Wen Jin asked in surprise, “Zhixing, what about Fang Zhiwei?”

“Just mention Fang Zhiwei, Gu Kai knows.”

Possibly catching on to Lu Zhiyan’s intentions, Wen Jin laughed on the other end of the line and readily agreed with an ‘okay.’

Lu Zhiyan hung up the phone, satisfied.

As if it had been arranged, right after he ended the call, Qin Mu’s phone began to ring.

He put on his Bluetooth earpiece and answered with a faint “hello.”

“Ah Mu, when are you coming back?”

The call was from An Lin, and by her tone, it seemed like there was an issue.

Qin Mu’s eyes flashed with confusion, and he responded with a question instead of an answer, “An Lin, what’s the matter?”

“Yeah, I just received a call; my mom had an accident and is now in the hospital. I’ve booked a flight and am heading back to A City tonight.”

An Lin’s voice was laced with worry, which was not quite apparent when she had asked about his return earlier.

But this explanation made it very clear.

Upon hearing this, Qin Mu asked with concern, “What happened to your mom, is the injury serious?”

“Hmm, I don’t know the details. My dad just said my mom got injured and needs to be hospitalized. I’m calling to let you know that I have to go home for a bit,” An Lin said, her tone calming down towards the end.

She did not expect Qin Mu to accompany her back.

In fact, after their second intimate encounter that night at the countryside villa, even though they had returned to G City and An Lin was staying at Qin Mu’s house, they hadn’t been intimate again.

On the one hand, Qin Mu had been busy with the Wen’s Pharmaceutical Factory, and on the other hand, their relationship had not progressed to nightly intimate affairs.

Qin Mu’s eyebrows furrowed, and a hint of somberness colored his voice as he asked, “What time is your flight, and are you at home now?”

“It’s the flight that goes in one hour, and I’m already in the taxi,” said An Lin, lying when in fact she had just come downstairs.

“Wait for me at the airport, I’ll come to find you and accompany you back,” Qin Mu hesitated for a moment and made a decision.

No sooner had he spoken than An Lin’s refusal came through, “No need, I can go back by myself.”
