Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 1313: 1312 He is protecting her

“Mhm.”

Gu Kai nodded, leaning back into the sofa.

Half an hour ago, he had taken some medicine at the hospital and now he faintly felt a bit dizzy. He couldn’t help but lift his left hand, gently massaging his temples.

When Fang Zhiwei came down from upstairs, she saw Gu Kai’s distinct, large hand on his head, his thumb lightly pressing at his temples. A look of concern appeared on her face: “Ah Kai, what’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?”

“It might be caused by the wound. When you called, I had just taken some fever-reducing medicine.”

Gu Kai slightly lifted his eyelids, giving her a faint glance. When he lowered his gaze, he saw the piece of paper in her hand.

“Why didn’t you say you had a fever over the phone?”

Upon hearing this, Fang Zhiwei immediately frowned, a face full of self-reproach.

She walked quickly to the sofa, not daring to reach out to touch his forehead, but stood in front of him, asking with concern, “Do you still have a fever now? Do you want me to get a thermometer to check?”

“It’s nothing. I heard the urgency in your voice and was afraid that if we didn’t clarify things tonight, you wouldn’t be able to sleep all night, so I came over.”

While Gu Kai spoke, he removed his hand from his head.

Fang Zhiwei’s expression changed slightly, the apology in her eyes and brows did not fade, as she handed him the piece of paper and sat back down in her previous spot.

After Gu Kai read the content on the paper, a shadow of clouds covered his handsome features. He looked at Fang Zhiwei calmly and said seriously, “Zhi Wei, the person who sent this to you definitely wants to stir up trouble between you and Bai Yiyi.”

“I haven’t told anyone else about that night.” Fang Zhiwei lowered her eyelids, not meeting Gu Kai’s gaze.

Her tone was very light.

She was not satisfied with Gu Kai’s explanation.

How could she possibly tell anyone else about something so disgraceful? She had only told Wen Ran and Gu Kai.

But now, someone knew, and they clearly pointed out that the events of that night were instructed by Bai Yiyi, claiming there was evidence.

Gu Kai’s handsome eyebrows furrowed, “Zhi Wei, do you remember me saying that I would investigate this matter?”

Fang Zhiwei looked up at him but didn’t speak.

Gu Kai thought for a moment and said carefully, “When I said I would investigate, I wasn’t fobbing you off; I truly asked Zhixing to look into it. I wanted to tell you a couple of days ago, but with the incident at Ah Jin Pharmaceutical Factory, I’ve been so busy I haven’t even had time to sleep, so I didn’t call you.”

Fang Zhiwei pursed her lips, suspicion in her eyes.

A subtle and dense sadness swelled in her heart. If she hadn’t called him tonight, if she hadn’t received the express delivery, Gu Kai probably wouldn’t have told her.

It wasn’t merely because he was too busy.

Gu Kai placed the paper in his hand on the coffee table. His voice flowing from his thin lips was calm, yet with a hint of cool indifference: “The incident that night, it was actually done by Qian Songnan.”

“Who is Qian Songnan?”

Fang Zhiwei finally spoke, her eyes full of confusion as she looked at Gu Kai.

“Qian Songnan is the father of one of my patients. His son has a rare disease. He has been to many hospitals and finally came to Kangning Hospital.”

Gu Kai spoke very slowly, as if he was afraid that speaking too quickly would confuse Fang Zhiwei.

“While his son was hospitalized, it just so happened that the video of me fighting at Yi Pin Xuan Pavilion was uploaded online. That day, you said at the hospital entrance that we had already broken up; he just happened to hear it.”

“I don’t understand, since he knows that we’ve already broken up, why did he have to find someone to teach me a lesson, saying that if I keep clinging to you, he would destroy me.”

Fang Zhiwei’s face turned a shade paler, she still felt afraid when she thought about what happened that night.

Gu Kai sighed softly before speaking again, his voice took on a gentler tone: “This matter, it’s because I have implicated you. Qian Songnan is an extremely despicable person, the incident between Bai Yiyi and me back then was caused by him.”

“Yiyi?”

The more Fang Zhiwei listened, the less she understood.

However, Gu Kai mentioned Bai Yiyi and her expression changed.

Ever since she saw the content of the express delivery that evening, she had all sorts of suspicions in her heart; it turns out that it really was related to Bai Yiyi.

“Yes, so, when Qian Songnan saw Bai Yiyi that day, he wanted to take advantage of her again. I told him Bai Yiyi was my wife, and only then because of his son’s sickness, did he give up that thought. Maybe it’s also for this reason, he took it upon himself to find someone to warn you.”

Upon hearing this, Fang Zhiwei suddenly laughed.

Under the lamplight, her smile carried three parts sorrow and two parts scorn.

“So that’s how it is.”

Gu Kai frowned slightly as he looked at her, “Zhiwei, I had planned to tell you after things at Ah Jin Factory were settled. I didn’t expect you would receive the express delivery first. If I’m not mistaken, it may have been sent by Qian Songnan.”

It was unexpected that Qian Songnan not only threatened Bai Yiyi but also engaged in such despicable acts of causing dissension behind the scenes.

“But why would Qian Songnan do this?”

As Fang Zhiwei was confused, her heart felt as if it was being grasped by an invisible hand, unspeakably uncomfortable.

She could sense that Gu Kai cared about Bai Yiyi, even though he took all the blame onto himself, he only briefly mentioned Bai Yiyi.

But her intuition told her, Gu Kai was deliberately not talking about Bai Yiyi; he was protecting Bai Yiyi.

No matter if it was tonight or the last time, he came to her house to explain because of Bai Yiyi, and this thought made the sorrow in her heart uncontrollably spread, extending to her limbs and bones.

The hands resting on her legs involuntarily crossed and clenched tightly.

Gu Kai’s eyes narrowed as he noticed the subtle changes in Fang Zhiwei’s facial expressions, and he slowly said: “Qian Songnan had a long-term contract with Ah Jin Pharmaceutical Factory, we had several years of cooperation, but because of this incident, Qian Songnan asked for contract termination and even demanded Ah Jin to pay a hefty penalty. He called while I happened to be around.”

“To put it simply, Qian Songnan may have improper thoughts toward Bai Yiyi, and he wants to pit you against Bai Yiyi, using you to harm Bai Yiyi. So, Zhiwei, you don’t need to pay attention to him.”

“Are you so sure it was him?”

Fang Zhiwei asked lightly.

Gu Kai frowned, his expression turned severe: “Who else could it be?” After pondering for a moment, he continued, “These next few days, just act as if nothing has happened, as if you never received the express delivery. I believe, whether it is Qian Songnan or not, they will give you a call.”

“You just said that Lu Zhiyan has already found out it was Qian Songnan, right?”

When Fang Zhiwei said this, her eyes steadfastly met Gu Kai’s.

Gu Kai nodded, “Yes.”

“Fine, I understand.” Fang Zhiwei picked up the water in front of her, took a sip, and stood up, “Ah Kai, since you’re sick, I won’t keep you. You should go back quickly.”

“Okay, you should also rest early.”

Gu Kai also stood up, and before leaving added, “Take Uncle Fang to Kangning Hospital for a check-up tomorrow. Although we’ve broken up, we’re still friends.”
