Wen Ran returned to her office to find her brother, Wen Jin, sitting on the couch. Upon hearing the door, he looked back to see her, and a warm smile spread across his eyes.

“Ranran, you’re back!”

Wen Ran, with a smile, walked over to the sofa and sat next to Wen Jin. She softly asked, “Brother, didn’t I tell you to rest well in the hospital? Why are you here at the factory again?”

Wen Jin’s gaze rested warmly on her face as he replied with a smile, “I had nothing to do at the hospital and was bored, so I thought I’d come to see you. You were in City C for days, taking care of MO Xiuchen. I was worried you might have overworked yourself and lost weight.”

Wen Ran playfully scolded him, “I’m not a child, don’t I know how to take care of myself?”

Wen Jin chuckled, neither agreeing nor disagreeing. In his eyes, she would always be that innocent little sister who needed his protection.

After such a long time, he still found it hard to believe that she no longer needed his protection as her big brother.

“By the way, you mentioned earlier that you had seen a lovely pair of siblings.

Tell me about it. Who did you meet while sneaking out of work?”

A flicker of hesitation flashed through Wen Jin’s mind. He couldn’t see Wen Ran’s expression over the phone earlier and wasn’t sure if her words were just a casual comment or if she had any suspicions and was testing him.

Wen Ran laughed, her clear eyes sparkled, “I just invited someone for coffee and happened to see a pair of adorable siblings playing in the square. You happened to call me at that moment and it reminded me of our childhood. Brother, why did everyone say that you resembled our parents while I didn’t when we were kids?”

At the end of her question, Wen Ran pouted a little, showing a hint of displeasure. She looked at him with clear, shimmering eyes which hid any deeper meaning of her words.

Wen Jin paused, his hand affectionately ran through her hair and then jokingly retorted, “Because your brother is handsome and intelligent. Unlike you, you were an absolute little monkey when you were young, always on the move.” “What? Who says that about their own sister?”

Wen Ran glared at him discontentedly which caused Wen Jin to erupt into laughter. After his laughter subsided, he said seriously, “Ranran, our parents’ birthday is in a month. Let’s go to the cemetery that day to celebrate it together.”

Upon mentioning their parents, a wave of sadness surged in Wen Ran’s heart. She nodded, speaking softly, “Brother, there’s something I haven’t told you yet, something I found out yesterday.”

“What is it?”

Seeing her upset, Wen Jin felt a tight knot in his heart.

“Do you remember Cheng Jia? Yesterday, she approached Little Liu and asked him to tell us that the car accident that killed our parents was carefully planned by Zhou Mingfu. She also implied that the person who attempted to kidnap me in F City was Zhou Mingfu.”

Wen Jin’s expression changed, he furrowed his brow and asked, “How does

Cheng Jia know?”

“She said she overheard Zhou Mingfu and Zhou Lin talking unintentionally. I listened to the recording of her conversation with Little Liu, but MO Xiuchen and I think we can’t completely trust her words.”

A cold glint flashed in Wen Jin’s eyes, he pressed his lips together tightly, “Of course we can’t fully trust her. Zhou Mingfu was taken out by someone, he didn’t die naturally. Whoever did it wanted to silence him which shows he knew too many secrets.”

Wen Ran widened her eyes in astonishment, “Brother, was Zhou Mingfu really silenced to death? So what exactly was the cause of his death?”

“Someone put a certain drug in his food, creating the illusion of sudden death.

The police have not released this information publicly, so nobody else knows.”

“So, you’re saying Cheng Jia is deliberately pushing the blame onto Zhou Mingfu to make us stop investigating, right?”

Wen Ran had suspected as much yesterday, and now hearing about Zhou

Mingfu’s cause of death from her brother further confirmed her suspicion.

“Yes, that’s basically it.”

Wen Jin’s handsome features showed a hint of coldness. Previously, he thought the car accident was planned solely by Zhou Mingfu, but now it seemed possible that there may be a mastermind behind it.

“Oh, brother, while I was on my way up, I received a call from Zhou Lin asking me to save her child. I wonder if something happened?”

A look of surprise crossed Wen Jin’s eyes, “Zhou Lin asked you to save her child?”

Wen Ran nodded, “That’s what she said. She sounded distressed and panicked on the phone. She said she was at a café called Corner.”

Wen Jin frowned and contemplated, almost as if talking to himself, “During Zhou Mingfu’s detention, Xiao Wenqing constantly pressured MO Zixuan to get a certificate with Zhou Lin. By rights, he should genuinely care for the child in Zhou Lin’s womb. However, Zixuan absolutely disagreed.”

“Then, Zhou Mingfu suddenly died the night before the trial. It’s only been a week and Zhou Lin is in trouble… Brother, that Xiao Wenqing…”

Wen Ran paused before completing her sentence, just staring intently at Wen Jin.

Wen Jin’s eyes flickered a few times, Ranran was thinking just what he had in mind.

It is not hard to guess that Xiao Wenqing made MO Zixuan marry Zhou Lin probably due to Zhou Mingfu’s threat. She couldn’t convince Zixuan and eventually got rid of Zhou Mingfu by some means.

Once Zhou Mingfu died, Zhou Lin became meaningless to her.

As long as the child in her womb is gone, she has no chance of being associated with the MO family again.

“Ranran, if Zhou Lin is really in trouble and she reached out to you instead of anyone else, there’s only one possibility. She might guess who wants to kill her child.”

After a moment of silence, Wen Jin said calmly.

Wen Ran’s eyes widened, she pursed her lips tightly, “Brother, I think maybe I should go to her personally…”

“You did right not to go.”

Wen Jin interrupted, smiling gently, “That was just my speculation, it is not necessarily the case. If Zhou Lin lied to you, wouldn’t it be dangerous if you went there?”

“I notified MO Zixuan first, then called Older Brother Gu and asked him to send an ambulance. Also, I asked Older Brother Gu to let me know the result later. Whether Zhou Lin’s words are true or false, we’ll know soon enough.”

“Yeah, you did well. Gu Kai is the crown prince of Kangning Hospital. Once Zhou Lin enters his family’s hospital, whether she’s genuinely in trouble or pretending, she won’t be able to hide it from him.”

Hearing Wen Ran affectionately call Gu Kai as “Older Brother Gut‘, a twinge of guilt passed through Wen Jin’s heart, but he soon suppressed it. They then discussed some matters related to the pharmaceutical factory over the past days.

About ten minutes later, Wen Ran’s phone rang. Seeing the incoming call, her eyes lit up, “Brother, it’s Older Brother Gu. It should be about Zhou Lin’s situation!”

Wen Jin smiled, responding warmly, “Go ahead, let’s hear what Gu Kai has to say.”

“Okay!”

Wen Ran nodded, pressing the answer button.. To let her brother hear Gu Kai’s voice, she turned on the speakerphone, “Hello, Older Brother Gu!”
