Wen Ran gave him a glance, neither refusing nor accepting his request. After a few seconds, she sat down on the edge of the bed, opened the breakfast box, and scooped a spoonful of lean pork liver congee. She blew on it to make sure it wasn’t too hot and then fed it to him.

Looking at the congee she had brought to his mouth, a splash of color blossomed in MO Xiuchen’s eyes.

The handsome face, which had become slightly pale from loss of blood, suddenly lit up with joy. He happily said, “Ranran, thank you.” before opening his mouth to eat the spoonful of congee.

Wen Ran looked at his smiling face and casually asked, “Is it tasty?

MO Xiuchen immediately nodded his head, swallowed the congee in his mouth, and added, “It’s tasty.”

“After eating this congee, make sure to drink this soup as well.” Wen Ran averted his passionate gaze.

She turned her head and looked at the soup served on the bedside table.

Given its aroma and concentration, one could tell that the soup had been simmered for several hours. It was just past six in the morning, so it wouldn’t be wrong to assume that Shen Yuting had started to cook the soup for him last night.

Seeing her staring at the soup, MO Xiuchen curtailed his smile and explained, “Shen Yuting was present when I was injured yesterday. I didn’t ask her to make this soup and meals for me, and I had no idea that she would bring these over so early in the morning.”

“Since the soup is already made, you might as well finish it. Don’t waste it.”

Wen Ran’s brow knitted slightly. She didn’t ask why Shen Yuting was there but responded in a calm and gentle voice.

“I won’t drink it; I’ll have the breakfast you bought.”

MO Xiuchen acted childishly like a little kid.

Wen Ran let out a slight sigh. Seeing him eagerly looking at the congee in her hand, she scooped up another spoonful, blew on it a little, and fed it to him.

MO Xiuchen ate quietly. For a while, neither of them spoke. One fed spoonful after spoonful, and the other ate nibble by nibble. The atmosphere was warm and peaceful.

In the rest area at the end of the corridor, Qin Mu looked at Shen Yuting, who seemed to be in a daze. His eye-catching brows slightly furrowed, and he casually said, “Wen Ran found out about MO Xiuchen’s injury at two in the morning. She called me and threatened that if I didn’t accompany her, she would come by herself in the middle of the night.”

Shen Yuting, who was lost in her thoughts, heard Qin Mu’s words.

She raised her head in surprise. The corridor was somewhat dim in the early morning, so she couldn’t make out Qin Mu’s expression clearly. For a while, she couldn’t understand his intention and just stared at him blankly.

Qin Mu pointed to the chair beside him, signaling her to sit down.

Shen Yuting pursed her lips and slowly sat down. Qin Mu sat down in the chair opposite to her.

She was facing the window, and the light was falling on her face; he could clearly see the confusion and surprise on her face.

“MO Xiuchen and Wen Ran have feelings for each other.”

If Qin Mu’s last statement was too subtle for the daydreaming Shen Yuting to understand, then this overt reminder was something Shen Yuting clearly comprehended.

Because she understood, her face instantly turned a shade paler, a flash of pain in her eyes as she lowered her head and lightly bit her lip.

“Wen Ran questioned me on the plane about the specifics of MO Xiuchen’s injury. I didn’t dare tell her.”

Qin Mu paused, then continued, “Perhaps MO Xiuchen won’t tell her the real reason either. He doesn’t want her to overthink.”

Suddenly, Shen Yuting raised her head; her face turned even paler.

She looked at Qin Mu’s stern face and explained rigidly, “I didn’t mean anything by it. MO Xiuchen was injured partly because of me. I just wanted to take care of him for a few days.”

Just now, when Wen Ran asked her, she didn’t tell her that MO Xiuchen’s injury was partly because of her.

All she said was that she happened to know about MO Xiuchen’s injury. It was a kind lie meant to prevent her from overthinking.

“Don’t worry, I won’t tell Ranran.”

Shen Yuting tightly pursed her lips, making the promise.

Wen Ran was not a stranger; she was her cousin, whom her cousin had been looking for all these years. Her aunt had died of yearning for her.

She could compete with any woman for a man, but not with Wen Ran! “Their matter is between them, and we don’t need to interfere.”

Qin Mu’s tone remained indifferent, with a hint of autumn chill.

He did not want to tell Wen Ran the details on the plane because he did not know whether to tell her the truth or lie.

“How did Ranran find out about MO Xiuchen’s injury at two in the morning?”

Shen Yuting looked at Qin Mu in confusion. Last night, she had asked MO Xiuchen whether or not to tell Wen Ran about it.

MO Xiuchen did not permit her to inform Wen Ran, nor did he allow Qin Mu and Luo Haofeng and others to visit him. Therefore, no one should have told

Wen Ran.

Qin Mu shook his head and lightly massaged his temples. He had been woken by Wen Ran’s call at two in the morning and had not closed his eyes since then, feeling extremely tired. “I don’t know. When I picked up the phone, she asked me which hospital MO Xiuchen was in and wanted me to accompany her there.”

In the ward, Wen Ran finished feeding him the bowl of the congee. After placing it down, she picked up the soup from the small table.

“Ranran, I honestly don’t want to drink it. ”

MO Xiuchen suddenly grabbed her wrist. Looking at her with deep and resolute eyes, Wen Ran furrowed her eyebrows and gazed back at him lightly.

“I’m already full.”

MO Xiuchen smiled slightly and whispered softly, “Don’t you want to see where my injury is?”

His words worked well. Wen Ran’s attention was drawn to his remark. Her eyes changed slightly, and her gaze swept over his body.

MO Xiuchen let go of her hand, lifted his quilt, then lifted his patient gown to reveal a bandage that kind of hurt to look at.

The bandage was wrapped around his waist. He pointed to the bandage on his left abdomen and said, “Here!”

Wen Ran stared at the blinding bandage, and layers of heartache uncontrollably surged within her. She leaned forward, reached out her hand very gently to touch the spot he pointed at, then raised her head to look at him, “Does it hurt a lot?”

MO Xiuchen shook his head, warmth filling his deep eyes, “It did hurt a lot, but after seeing you, it doesn’t hurt as much.”

“If I hadn’t asked, were you planning on keeping this from me the whole time?”

Wen Ran’s slender fingers gently stroked his wound through the bandage, and her heart ached.

MO Xlucnen reached out to hold her hand, wrapping it in his broad, warm palm. He spoke softly, “My plan was to tell you after a few days when it got a little better. This wound won’t fully heal in three to five days, so how could I hide it from you? Even if it’s completely healed, there will inevitably be a scar.”

The tip of Wen Ran’s nose tingled slightly. She avoided his gaze, looked down at his wound for a moment, then raised her head to look into his dark eyes, and softly asked, “Can you tell me the cause of this? Why didn’t you avoid it and got stabbed?”

The pain from MO Xiuchen’s wound was truly eased to some extent by her concern and tenderness. He looked at her with tender eyes and softened his tone, “Of course I can, but not now..”
