As he said this, there was a twinge of bitterness in Gu Kai’s voice.

He is six years older than Ranran. He still remembers the day when he found out he was going to be a big brother; he was so overjoyed that he ran several laps around the living room.

He rushed over to hug his mother’s neck, put his hand on his mother’s protruding belly, and joyfully said hello to his younger sister.

For those few months, he would tell his sister a bedtime story every night, informing her that he was her big brother. He promised to be the best big brother in the world, and make her the happiest sister.

On the day his sister was born, he carefully held her as a newborn in his arms. He stood in front of his mother’s bed with his father. The four of them posed for a family portrait. At that moment, he felt he was at the pinnacle of happiness.

Every day after school, the first thing he would do is to hold his sister and play with her. He once asked his mother why his sister had a beautiful mole on her chin while he didn’t.

His mother laughed and said that it was a distinguishing mark of his sister, indicating that she was unique, which overjoyed him.

However, those happy days did not last long. One summer evening, as he pushed his half a year old sister for a stroll on the small path outside their house, his mother was by his side. He plucked a blooming gardenia flower and gave it to his sister to smell, his father called his mother.

After his mother ended the call, his sister began to cry because she needed a diaper change. He told his mother he could take care of his sister while his mother went home to get the diaper. Looking around, there were only one other pair of neighbors strolling with their child, as they were right in front of their house, his mother went home to get the diaper with ease.

However, just as his mother had just reached the door, he heard the sound of urgent braking behind him. As he turned back, he saw two unfamiliar men rushing towards him. One grabbed him, while the other bent over to pick up his sister.

“Mom!”

He screamed. The married couple not far away, who were strolling with their baby, also called out. His mother turned and ran back, but one of the men pushed him violently onto the stone edge of the roadside flower bed. He picked up his sister, got in the car and took off.

It was a brazen kidnapping. Given the Gu Family was a century-old medical family with a significant reputation in G City, this incident attracted the high attention of the police. However, the villain who abducted his sister seemed to disappear into thin air. No matter how hard they searched, they couldn’t find him.

From the moment his sister was kidnapped, Gu Kai’s joyful childhood came to an end.

His mother tears washed her face every day and his father also looked worried. He didn’t dare to cry in front of his mother, he could only hide under the covers at night, holding the doll he had picked out for his sister and sobbing quietly.

The dim light in the carriage cast a shadow on his face as he was lost in his memories.

His look suddenly became quiet and lonely. From the time his sister went missing to his mother’s passing, only six years had passed. But he would never forget the last words his mother said before she died, asking him to find his sister.

He knew it; his mother had died because she lost hope.

After so many years of searching and just when they finally had some leads, they again fell into the abyss of despair…

In the closed car, the air was tainted with his sadness. MO Xiuchen, watching his friend in such a state, felt a lump in his throat.

He spoke slowly to break the taxing sadness in the carriage, “You can take some time and take Ranran to visit your mother’s grave.”

Gu Kai looked up sharply at MO Xiuchen when he heard this. “Did you ask me out here tonight just to say that?”

He pursed his lips tightly, feeling a complex mix of emotions.

MO Xiuchen’s eyes held a hint of regret as he quietly said, “I originally wanted to tell Ranran about you and the Gu family to help her understand you better.

But since I made some inappropriate comments the other night, she seems extra sensitive. She thinks I’m jealous of her brother and doesn’t mind her spending time with you, which is abnormal.

Gu Kai’s brows furrowed slightly and remembered the day he went shopping with her and Shen Yuting. He suddenly exclaimed, “That makes sense. The other day when Shen Yuting and I went shopping with her, I chose a beautiful hair clip, but she didn’t want to accept it. She hinted indirectly. MO Xiuchen, how could you make such a basic mistake.”

He clearly knew Wen Jin and Wen Ran, even without blood ties, were only brother and sister. Ranran showed that she liked him, but he was actually jealous of Wen Jin.

How could this man, usually so wise and discerning, have such low emotional intelligence?

“I’m a normal human, of course, I would make mistakes that ordinary people would make.”

MO Xiuchen staunchly defended himself. He knew he had made a mistake, but what’s said cannot be unsaid.

If Ranran hadn’t brought up the events of that night just now, he wouldn’t have fled here under the guise of Shen Yuting’s phone call.

Gu Kai gave him a side-eye, then turned his gaze forward and said solemnly, “I must let Ranran know about her real past as soon as possible.”

The day after finding out that Ranran was his sister, his father, Gu Yan, flew to D Country. Gu Kai was left to handle all the high-difficulty surgeries. These days, he was so busy, he barely had any time to eat.

Even without inquiring, he knew what his father was doing abroad.

As a result, he was more eager to recognize his sister, at least to ease his father’s pain a bit.

MO Xiuchen understood his feelings and the urgency to get his sister back. After a few seconds of silence, he still advised him rationally, “Give it a few more days. Wait until Wen Jin recovers and leaves the hospital, and isn’t reliant on Ranran anymore. Also, once I get more evidence from Xiao Wenqing and solve a few things, then tell Ranran about her past.”

Gu Kai’s face changed, and his voice became more somber, “That’s a long wait. It will take at least two months for Wen Jin to fully recover and at least two months to get everything from Xiao Wenqing. ”

“Yes, two months. We’ve waited for more than twenty years, what’s another two months.”

MO Xiuchen estimated the time in his heart. Those things wouldn’t be resolved in a day or two. He looked at Gu Kai, whose face was pale, and said softly, “When the police arrived that year, Fu Jingyi must’ve gotten the news and escaped earlier. That’s why they caught the others and couldn’t find him.”

When Fu Jingyi’s name was mentioned, Gu Kai’s eyes grew colder and the aura around him turned chilling.

It was that man who not only took away his sister, but in the end, hurt her too.

If he ever saw him, he would make him wish he were dead!

“I’ve got a lead recently. Just not sure if that’s it yet.”

The low voice of MO Xiuchen broke through the icy aura that Gu Kai was emanating. He gave him a comforting look.

The latter turned his head to look into his black eyes, “What kind of lead?”

MO Xiuchen pursed his lips, lightly explained, “It’s about Wu Tianyi, the one who has been helping Xiao Wenqing to get rid of me over the years. I spoke to you briefly about him before..”
