Gu Kai’s eyebrows knit slightly together as he casually explained, “I just called MO Xiuchen. That’s what he told me.”

Shen Yuting widened her eyes in surprise, “Cousin, MO Xiuchen even tells you about Wen Ran’s period, a girl’s private matter. Looks like he really doesn’t see you as an outsider!”

“I’m not an outsider.”

Gu Kai indifferently retorted, his thin lips pulling into a resolute line.

Recalling what Wen Ran had said in the jewelry store earlier, a dull pain wracked his chest again. If she knew he was her biological brother, she wouldn’t turn down a hair clip from him.

Shen Yuting blinked in confusion, her eyes probing as she watched Gu Kai.

From the morning when she told Gu Kai that she was going out shopping with Wen Ran, and he bravely volunteered to go with them, she felt something was off.

All morning, no matter what they bought, he generously paid for it, even personally picking out a hair clip for Wen Ran. None of his actions were typical.

Not just Wen Ran, but even she, had suspicions.

Though she had heard from MO Xiuchen that Wen Ran might be the sister Gu Kai was looking for, it was only a possibility, not definite.

Seeing Gu Kai being good to Wen Ran today, she felt a faint, selfish hope that Wen Ran was not the sister Gu Kai is looking for.

His feelings for her could transform into a different type of affection and this would create a rift between Wen Ran and MO Xiuchen…

That thought flickered briefly before she suppressed it deep in her heart.

She warned herself not to have such vile thoughts, as her cousin was not the kind of man who would steal his friend’s spouse.

“Cousin, do you really believe that Wen Ran is our cousin? But our sister has a mole on her chin, Wen Ran doesn’t.”

After staring at Gu Kai for a long while without detecting anything unusual on his face, Shen Yuting asked out of curiosity.

Gu Kai turned his head, his dark eyes looking at Shen Yuting as he took a deep breath, saying, “Ranran originally had a mole on her chin. It was removed.”

“Really?”

Shen Yuting’s eyes went round with surprise. Could it be… Wen Ran really is her sister.

Gu Kai nodded, his expression turned serious, his grip on the steering wheel tightened, after hesitating for a moment, he still told her, “I had Ranran’s hair tested for DNA, and she is indeed my long-lost sister- your little sister. However, I haven’t told Ranran this news yet. Currently only MO Xiuchen, me and my father know about it. Now, you do too.”

Shen Yuting stared at Gu Kai incredulously, remembering what MO Xiuchen had told her and the ways Gu Kai treated Wen Ran…

She felt a mix of joy and loss.

Subconsciously, she didn’t want Wen Ran to be her cousin. She hadn’t entirely given up on MO Xiuchen. If Wen Ran was just a stranger, she would feel more

But if Wen Ran was her cousin, she would have to sever all romantic feelings for MO Xiuchen, not leaving an ounce behind.

“Yuting, I don’t want anyone else to know about this for now, especially

Ranran. You have to keep this a secret.”

Gu Kai looked at her through the rearview mirror, his voice soft.

“I see.”

Shen Yuting hesitated for a moment, before asking, “Since you’ve found your sister, why don’t you tell her?”

Gu Kai’s thin lips pressed together, his voice somewhat harsh, “I don’t want Ranran to know about her circumstances for now, let’s just wait a few more days. ”

Wen Ran already had enough danger around her. Zhou Mingfu may have been arrested, but Xiao Wenqing still posed a threat, ready to use Wen Ran as a bargaining chip against MO Xiuchen at any moment.

If she found out that Wen Ran was the girl they had been looking for all those years, who knows what appalling deeds she would commit.

Back then, Xiao Wenqing indeed intended to kill Wen Ran.

Had Wen Ran not been rescued by Wen Hongrui and his family, and had her chin mole removed, moved, and been made to look different, she, a six-year-old girl, would never have been able to escape their lethal claws.

Every time he thought of these events, Gu Kai felt a deep sorrow, consumed by guilt.

“If Ranran is my sister, then she….she really is the little girl who saved MO Xiuchen back then?”

When Shen Yuting asked this, her hands tightly interlocked.

Gu Kai’s answer filled her with desolation, “Yes, when I said back then that the little girl who saved him was my sister, it wasn’t nonsense. As it turned out, Ranran is not only my sister but also the girl who saved him all those years ago. However, she has forgotten all about it.”

“How could she forget?”

Shen Yuting’s voice was tired and lifeless. She knew Gu Kai wouldn’t mistake it. If he said it was, then Wen Ran must be that girl.

“She was deeply hypnotized.”

No matter if it’s a little girl or an adult, deep hypnosis could lead to memory loss.

Shen Yuting murmured an acknowledgment and turned her gaze to the window, no longer talking.

The car fell into sudden silence.

Gu Kai observed the dazed Shen Yuting from the rearview mirror, his heart softened. Speaking softly he said, “Yuting, MO Xiuchen and Ranran, they are destined to be together. From the moment they met more than ten years ago, they had already formed a bond. In this life, and the next, their hearts will only beat for each other.”

Shen Yuting tightly pursed her lips, a sour sensation at the tip of her nose.

She had a crush on MO Xiuchen for years and never imagined that one day, things would come to this.

She always felt that he could never find that little girl, and moreover, he could never fall in love with that little girl.

Being such a cold and heartless person, he is indifferent and distant to all other women, except for her. Occasionally, he would smile at her, show a little concern.

She didn’t believe in any destiny or the likes.

But, she cannot deny the truth in front of her.

The day she returned, MO Xiuchen picked her up from the airport. Every time he mentioned Wen Ran during their conversation, his eyes softened along with his tone. She knew then, she no longer had any hope.

Knowing this, yet not wanting to let go, this was the greatest pain.

Gu Kai sighed softly, his gentle voice turning hesitant as it echoed in the quiet and cramped car, ‘You probably won’t believe it. Ranran hasn’t forgotten Xiuchen completely. Even though she was hypnotized and doesn’t remember things from before, she didn’t forget Xiuchen.”

As soon as he said those words, Shen Yuting’s face turned pale.

She slowly turned her head, looking at him. Her eyes were slightly red as she held her lips and tried to control her emotions.

“Wen Jin said, from the time Ranran was a girl, she would often have a dream. She would dream about the time she saved Xiuchen. She would also dream about those people… giving her an injection…”

As he ended his sentence, Gu Kai’s voice hardened.

The breath he exhaled was thick with chill, so much so, that the temperature inside the car plummeted in an instant.

“Cousin, what do you mean by ‘an injection’?”

Shen Yuting was shocked by Gu Kai’s sudden change of expression, forgetting her sadness and grief, and asked in a daze..
