Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2235: Chapter 2234: Jianqi Unwilling?

First, regardless of how the plan is arranged, we must let the people from the Wei Hall go and check the situation. After some discussion, everyone decided to give the boots first to the four from Wei Hall, and Jiang Yichun and Gao Zhou will take them to see the scene.

Bai Ruozhu was a bit dissatisfied, while Jiang Yichun gave her a gentle smile, ”You should recuperate first, I will need you to protect me later.”

He said this publicly, and for a man to say he needs a woman to protect him could be considered quite a show of vulnerability. Everyone couldn’t help but chuckle, and Bai Ruozhu’s face flushed, angrily saying, ”What nonsense are you talking? You’re much better than me.”

Privately, she could compete with her own man, but in front of others, she had to make sure her man looked good. Otherwise, if her own man couldn’t compare to herself, what kind of judgment would that show on her part?

Jiang Yichun looked at her with an even softer expression, ”So what are you worried about? Just take good care of your injuries, we’ll be back by tonight at the latest.”

Bai Ruozhu could only agree.

After Jiang Yichun and the others left, Bai Ruozhu requested hot water be sent to the room and had Yizi help her clean herself.

Her back was full of wounds; though it couldn’t be exposed to water, some blood stains and ointment had gotten on other parts of her body, making her feel very uncomfortable.

Yizi saw the wounds on her back and couldn’t help but cry.

”Master, how did you get hurt so badly? What if it leaves scars?” Yizi said while crying.

Bai Ruozhu laughed mischievously, ”If it leaves scars, it’s no problem; I can have large patterns tattooed on my back to cover the scars, right?”

Yizi cried even harder, ”But wouldn’t that hurt a lot? Isn’t there another way?”

Bai Ruozhu didn’t have the heart to tease her further and quickly said, ”I have ointments to remove scars, so don’t worry. Why are you worried about me? You should be more concerned about Jianqi. Has the internal injury you caused him healed properly?”

Yizi’s face turned crimson instantly, ”He said it’s all better now, not an issue.”

Bai Ruozhu nodded, ”What about Lan Ying? Has she recovered enough to leave?”

”When we came back to look for you that day, we didn’t see her again. You told her that if she got better, she could leave on her own. I think she’s probably gone elsewhere to explore.” Yizi said with a sigh, ”She said there are many places she hasn’t been, and she wants to go and see the world.”

Bai Ruozhu nodded, hoping Lan Ying could live happily in her limited time.

Once Yizi finished helping her clean up and applied ointment to her wounds, Bai Ruozhu couldn’t resist asking, ”What’s really going on between you and Jianqi?”

Yizi’s shy face turned red, ”What do you mean? I’m not familiar with him.”

”You’re not familiar with him yet you call him Jianqi brother? Then who are you familiar with?” Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but burst into laughter.

Outside the room door, Jianqi paused. He originally intended to report something to his master, but after hearing the conversation inside, he felt it was not the right time to knock.

”I-I don’t know!” Yizi exclaimed anxiously.

Bai Ruozhu loved to tease such shy children like Yizi, laughing as she said, ”Don’t you like Jianqi? The other guards all have partners. I’ve been thinking about arranging a marriage for Jianqi lately. If you don’t have feelings for him, then I might arrange someone else, like that girl we saved earlier.”

For a moment, she couldn’t recall the girl’s name, ”Or Tian Fang. She’s a few years younger than Jianqi and a female doctor, just right to take care of each other.”

Yizi felt a sharp pain in her heart, indeed, how could she match Jianqi brother?

Outside the room, Jianqi felt a pang in his heart as well—was his master finally going to arrange a marriage for him? Should he refuse?

Jianqi has always been a very dutiful subordinate; even when ripples of emotions arose in his heart, he forcibly suppressed them. Thus, even someone as keen and attentive as Bai Ruozhu didn’t notice anything amiss.

He was actually more rational than Bai Zepei, and clearer about his own identity, knowing he shouldn’t entertain unrealistic hopes.

But at this moment, he couldn’t help feeling heartache; it might just be the right time to extinguish those unworthy desires.

Inside the room, Yizi said dejectedly, ”Indeed, Tian Fang is a good match for Jianqi brother, he would likely prefer a capable woman.”

Bai Ruozhu was stunned. She had only wanted to tease Yizi into blurting out that she liked Jianqi or ask her not to arrange a marriage for Jianqi; who would have thought this little girl would be so self-deprecating and say others are more suitable?

She held her forehead, suddenly unsure what to say. Enough, she caused this, she should clean up after it.

Outside the room, Jianqi felt a deep sorrow. He could almost picture Yizi’s expression as she said those words, sense her sadness and despair, realizing that Yizi had developed a special feeling for him.

Thinking back to that kiss in the array, he only lightly touched her forehead and her small face turned red as if it would bleed, he quietly blamed himself for being slow, he should have noticed earlier.

Yizi is a good girl, he doesn’t want her to be hurt, but...

But how could he give her happiness, a stable life?

”Yizi, haven’t you thought about yourself?” Bai Ruozhu patiently asked, ”I just thought about it, you know the array, Jianqi’s martial arts are good, if he cooperates with your array, his chances in battle increase, and it’s much safer, you guys seem quite compatible.”

Yizi looked up, somewhat surprised, ”Can I, really?”

”Last time your array even injured Jianqi, but as long as you practice well, you can definitely become a master in arrays, why not? Bai Ruozhu asked with a smile.

Gradually, Yizi’s eyes lit up, hearing her master say that, indeed, it seems she and Jianqi brother match quite well.

”Master, there’s news from the Commerce Association.” Jianqi’s voice timely sounded, he couldn’t bear to listen any longer, afraid this good girl Yizi would be influenced by the master, wasting a girl’s lifetime.

Yizi’s face turned red to her neck, not knowing if Jianqi brother heard it, wishing she could find a hole to crawl into.

Bai Ruozhu saw her like this, couldn’t bear it, and said, ”Jianqi, come in and speak, Yizi go brew some tea.”

Yizi fled in panic, not daring to raise her head to look at him as she brushed past Jianqi.

Bai Ruozhu suppressed her laughter, asking, ”What’s the matter with the Commerce Association?”

”There’s news from the Jiuli Clan folks, they are coming over. They won’t stand idly by if their clan is in trouble. They’ll come to Duanyang City to meet us,” Jianqi’s voice was calm, his expression unchanged, showing no sign of any reaction.

Perhaps he didn’t hear anything, Bai Ruozhu speculated.

”Alright, keep an eye out these days and gather them all up,” Bai Ruozhu said.

”Yes.” Jianqi responded, intending to leave, but Bai Ruozhu stopped him.

”Jianqi, you heard it just now, didn’t you?” she asked.

Jianqi’s expression remained unchanged, ”Hear what?”

Bai Ruozhu laughed, ”You’ve been with me for so long, don’t I know your temperament? You don’t admit it, do you not want to?”
