Chapter 2222: Chapter 2221: Deepest Understanding, Perfect Harmony

Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun exchanged a glance. Without disguises in Danliang territory and surrounded by so many people, this didn’t feel quite right.

But since they were already here, it wouldn’t be good to just turn and leave now, would it?

”Dad, mom, go ahead. I’ll watch you from here and won’t run around!” Little Dengdeng said seriously.

Bai Ruozhu quietly took Tutu out from her sleeve and handed it to Dengdeng to hold, saying: ”Let Tutu keep you company. If bad people come, just shout loudly.”

Then Bai Ruozhu spoke to a young server, letting Little Dengdeng stand in the spot closest to the viewing platform.

This set her mind at ease, and she and Jiang Yichun went on stage.

Little Dengdeng shouted excitedly from below: ”Dad, go for it! Mom, go for it!”

Many people laughed, and someone said: ”This competition brought their kid to cheer them on. Look at how united they are as a family.”

Bai Ruozhu gave her son a big smile. At this point, the judges supporting the competition took the stage. They first introduced themselves to everyone, then said: ”Now, we will begin the first round of the competition—resemblance between couples.”

The crowd was in an uproar. What, what does that mean?

”It’s said that appearances grow from the heart, and the longer couples are together, the more they resemble each other. That’s why people talk about ’couple resemblance.’ Let’s see which pair of competing couples looks most alike?”

Bai Ruozhu looked at Jiang Yichun. The two seemed a bit alike, but not exceptionally so. She then looked at the other competing couples, and one pair did look alike—both had round faces and big mouths, as well as garlic noses.

Soon the judges and onlookers unanimously voted that the couple with round faces and big mouths won first place in this round because they really looked alike.

Unexpectedly, Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun took second place, something that made Bai Ruozhu feel a bittersweet amusement. Did they really resemble each other that much? Or was it because both were attractive and thus more eye-catching, causing everyone to vote them into second?

”Haha, she’s my cousin. We’ve looked alike since we were little. My mom and my uncle always said to get our marriage arranged early.” The man who won the first round laughed dumbly.

Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but laugh. No wonder they looked alike—they were relatives.

She remembered a song from a past life called ”May All Lovers Be Long-Lost Siblings.” This humorous song about single life had a point; she once viciously thought that maybe couples resembled each other because they were siblings.

Little Dengdeng saw his parents didn’t take first and indignantly said from below: ”My mom and dad do look alike! Just look at how much they both look like me!”

He said this while pointing at his face with his chubby little fingers, amusing everyone around him.

Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun couldn’t help but laugh. Jiang Yichun gently said: ”Son, don’t worry. There are more rounds to come. Dad will try hard!”

”Next, we begin the second round: Knowledge.” The judge announced.

He then introduced how this worked, which was about separately asking each spouse about the other. Neither could speak but had to write their answers on paper to see how well they really knew each other.

Soon, the first question came.

”What’s your husband’s favorite dish?”

The men and women were separated, each writing their answers on paper.

Quickly, the judge went to check answers. The first wife smartly wrote ”meat,” and her husband wrote ”meat” too.

”The question was about a dish, and your answer is not specific enough—consider it half correct.”

The woman protested: ”Meat is also a dish! My man just likes to eat plain meat!”

The judge gave her a sideways glance. ”By that logic, writing ’meat’ or ’vegetables’ would not show how well you know each other.”

He moved on to other contestants. The second couple actually got it right—the wife wrote ”Red Braised Pork,” and the husband wrote ”Red Braised Pork.”

The third couple got it wrong, while the fourth wife didn’t say anything wrong, but she made a mistake because she hadn’t practiced writing well and wrote one character incorrectly.

The fifth couple also answered correctly, and Bai Ruozhu wrote ”Hot Pot” while Jiang Yichun also wrote ”Hot Pot.”

Another contestant, unhappy, said: ”They’re cheating! What’s hot pot? Never heard of it.”

Bai Ruozhu calmly said: ”This aunty hasn’t been to the North, has she? Hot pot is popular in the North when it’s cooler, using charcoal to heat copper pots. It has a spicy or bone broth inside, and you cook fresh meat and vegetables, then dip them in sauce to eat—hot and delicious!”

The judge nodded, ”I saw it when I visited the North—hot pot is indeed warm in winter, especially the lamb pot.”

Jiang Yichun gave a thumbs-up. ”Sir, you have great taste!”

The judge chuckled, ”This question is correct; no issue.”

The woman who questioned them looked slightly embarrassed while her husband glared at her and quietly said: ”Stop saying embarrassing things—do you want everyone to know how sheltered you are?”

This was the couple where the man was already impatient with her, and now they exposed their problems on stage.

The second question followed shortly, asking about the wife’s preferences: what gift did you give your wife that she liked the most?

Jiang Yichun got it right, writing that it was a pocket watch.

Then there were two more questions, both answered correctly by the two of them.

Out of six pairs, scores were tallied: one point per correct answer, with Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun scoring four points and others scoring three or two; the indifferent couple surprisingly only got one.

In this round, Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun won.

”Competition continues, third round tests tacit understanding!” The judge loudly said.

Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun couldn’t help but laugh, ”This restaurant really has lots of tricks.”

The judge explained the round: both spouses stood back to back, the man saw a card shown by the judge and had to describe what it was without saying any words on the card. Each pair had the time it takes half an incense stick to burn, and wives guessed wrong three times meant failure.

This task wasn’t actually hard; the first card was ”bun.”

”A food, dough outside, with meat inside,” the husband of the first pair said.

”Dumpling!” the wife quickly guessed.

The husband anxiously hopped, ”No! The round one!”

”Bun!”

Easily guessed.

But for the indifferent couple, the card was cantaloupe.

His hints were vague, leading to two incorrect guesses. Frustrated, the man said, ”Smaller than a watermelon, bigger than a peach, smells good.”

The judge timely interjected, ”You mentioned a word from the card, fails!”

The man, upset, glared at his wife and scolded, ”How can you be so stupid? Can’t even guess cantaloupe, what’s the point of going out and embarrassing us?”

The woman was also displeased, muttering: ”You couldn’t just say it’s small, light-colored, with some seeds inside, and needs slicing.”

The man delivered a sharp slap, ”Dare to talk back? Who do you think you are!”
