Chapter 1330: Chapter 1332: Ao Family’s Statement_1

Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun returned to the Inn, discussing how to deal with the Holy Hall.

”I think it’s too difficult to directly overthrow the Holy Hall, after all, it represents the faith of the people of the Western Regions, and there is nothing wrong with the common people believing in deities. The wrongdoing lies with those who commit evil acts in the name of the deities,” said Bai Ruozhu.

Jiang Yichun expressed his agreement, ”The Holy Hall has been in operation for dozens or even hundreds of years; it cannot be overthrown overnight. However, it might be possible to support another group within the Holy Hall. I’ve heard that the second elder has gathered a group of true believers who have long been dissatisfied with the actions of the great elder and have been trying every means possible to oppose them.”

Bai Ruozhu’s eyes lit up, ”Then let’s support the faction of the second elder. I don’t expect them to be absolutely pure and devout; there can be no fish in water that’s too clear. As long as they are not as excessive as the great elder and his followers, it’s fine.”

”It’s just that the faction led by the great elder knows quite a few Evil Techniques. I sent people to inquire about it, and it was they who planned the alliance between the Western Regions and the Barbarian Clan, which brought Sangta to Gaochang. It’s just that their ultimate goal is still unknown.”

He continued, ”Princess Yingtong originally thought that she would be the one to form a marriage alliance with Sangta, which is why she pressured Ao Qi into seeking the emperor’s decree to marry her. There are also rumors that the Holy Hall wants Sangta to marry Saintess Honglian. However, when Sangta met the ruler of the Western Regions Country, he said he wanted to choose the queen himself.”

At this point, Jiang Yichun snorted displeasedly, clearly understanding what Sangta meant by choosing his own bride.

Bai Ruozhu shook her head helplessly; thankfully, Sangta was just fond of making careless remarks and hadn’t taken any overly drastic actions, or else she would have an even bigger headache.

”By the way, haven’t we forgotten someone?” Bai Ruozhu suddenly slapped her head.

”Who?” asked Jiang Yichun.

Bai Ruozhu smiled mischievously, ”That Jin Wanliang who contracted a terrible disease that might spread to the people in the city, how can he continue to stay in Gaochang City?”

Seeing her smile like a sly fox, Jiang Yichun couldn’t help but smile too, saying, ”What are we waiting for? If it’s inconvenient for us to take action, we can find someone else to do it.”

”This will also be a good test of the Ao Family’s resolve,” Bai Ruozhu winked at him.

The two got ready and rode to the Ao Residence, where this time they not only met with Ao Qi but also the Ao family patriarch and the Grand Princess.

After paying their respects, Bai Ruozhu spoke, ”I would like to report to the Ao family patriarch and the Grand Princess that on our way to Gaochang City, we saved the merchant Jin Wanliang from the Jin Family merchant team, who had been poisoned by a snake. He is the husband of Lady Diao Mo of the Holy Hall. Just before reaching Gaochang City, we encountered him again and discovered that he had contracted a hideous disease, covered in sores that were festering and oozing pus; even flies couldn’t be driven away from his body.”

The Ao family patriarch and the Grand Princess both showed disgust, with the Grand Princess asking, ”How can there be such a bizarre illness, and where is that person now?”

”They insisted that I treat him, and would blame me if I failed, but I had never seen such a disease before. The symptoms are strange, and I fear it may be a contagious plague.” Bai Ruozhu spoke, showing a worried expression. ”When we entered the city, we also talked to the guards, but Lady Diao Mo, relying on her status in the Holy Hall, forcibly brought Jin Wanliang into the city. These past few days, I’ve been unable to put my mind at ease, fearing that the disease might spread.”

Jiang Yichun spoke at the right moment, ”My wife is a skilled doctor who cannot bear to see things like this. As soon as I secretly inquired a bit, I found out that Jin Wanliang was hidden in a yard within the city, and his condition had not improved at all. The yard had become foul-smelling, and the two people attending to him both fell ill in succession.”

In fact, the successive illnesses of Jin Wanliang’s servants were not due to contagion but because the stench made them unable to eat, and they kept retching and vomiting. The first one, already exhausted from constant travel, finally collapsed from malnutrition. The second one was completely knocked out by the fumes.

The Grand Princess was shocked and dismayed, ”That woman Yumo has managed to keep this secret for so long. No, we must isolate him from Gaochang City immediately. Isn’t this going to harm the citizens within the city?”

”I am worried about that too. I have been practicing medicine and dealing with medicinal materials for years, so I am not afraid of such diseases. But how can ordinary people withstand it? If it starts spreading, the citizens of the city will suffer, and besides, Jin Wanliang is a merchant from Danliang Country. If this leads to a misunderstanding between our two countries, that is something I cannot bear to see,” Bai Ruozhu continued.

The Grand Princess suddenly stood up, ”I am going to find that Jin Wanliang right now and send him out of the city in public, to see how that Yumo dares to shelter him!”

Ao Qi anxiously grabbed the Grand Princess, with a worried look on his face, ”You can’t go!”

Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun exchanged a glance. Was Ao Qi afraid of the Holy Hall?

”My Lord, have you not made up your mind yet? Given the current situation, we can no longer tolerate the Holy Hall’s actions. I said nothing during Qun Lian’s affair because I could not let the Ao Family, built by my mother-in-law, run into trouble. But now it’s different. If we don’t take action soon, we will quickly be devoured by the Holy Hall. Just look at how they treat the sovereign to understand!” the Grand Princess said angrily.

Ao Qi let out a somewhat gloomy sigh, ”How could I not understand your feelings? It’s not that I haven’t made up my mind, but that you should not go. Jin Wanliang’s illness is peculiar, what if it infects you? It would be better to send some strong and trusted subordinates to handle it.”

The Grand Princess realized she had misunderstood Ao Qi, and coughed lightly with a hint of embarrassment, lowering her voice, ”I misunderstood, my Lord.”

Ao Qi’s eyes shone with a gentle light, ”I was also too anxious and did not explain myself clearly.”

Seeing the deep affection between the two, Bai Ruozhu felt envious. She hoped that decades later, when their Little Dengdeng had grown as big as Ao Qi and their hair had turned grey, she and Jiang Yichun could still share the same love as Ao Qi and the Grand Princess.

”Father, Mother, since our family has made a decision, it’s time to take a stance. All the other aristocrats of Gaochang are watching. Let me lead the men this time. On my previous travels, I was fortunate to consume a rare detoxification medicine. The person who saved me said that from then on, I would be almost impervious to all diseases,” Ao Qi suddenly said.

The Grand Princess was naturally worried, ”Qi’er, are you just saying this to comfort your parents?”

Ao Qi spoke somewhat helplessly, ”Mother, I am not young anymore, how can I still be reckless? Otherwise, why not let Lady Bai have a look at me?”

Bai Ruozhu listened with curiosity and carefully took Ao Qi’s pulse. Soon, her face revealed a joyous smile, ”It should be the Seven-color Ganoderma, which has permeated his body after prolonged use. I cannot be completely certain, but it is clear that Young Master Ao’s body is indeed much stronger than ordinary people. Not only is he immune to many diseases, but many poisons also have no effect on him.”

Ao Qi smiled, ”I told you so, that is exactly what that person told me.”
