Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1325: Chapter 1327: To Invigorate the Husband’s Responsibilities (1)

In the Yangxin Hall, the monarch Jun Haoran leaned on the bed with a somewhat unfocused gaze, looking incredibly sad and exhausted. It took him a while before he stirred and returned to his usual demeanor.

”Lian Jia, how could Bai Shu not know about Tang Gui’s family?” the monarch’s voice was very soft, showing his extreme weakness.

Lian Jia, who was standing by the bed, said, ”Probably because the former Emperor of Danliang did not like that Tang Gui married the holy girl from the Western Regions, there has been little contact over the years, and now the current Emperor of Danliang, Tang Yin, has no affection for Tang Gui, so it is normal that he would be unaware of these matters.”

His voice dropped a few notches, ”It’s rumored that the Holy Hall even sealed the matter, that fire was just too bizarre.”

The monarch sighed, ”Fen Wan has indeed seen it, and I’ve heard that she has defied the great elder’s wishes several times. She too thinks that the Holy Hall went too far, but in the end, she is a pawn raised by the Holy Hall, and a pawn that doesn’t listen can only be discarded.”

Lian Jia did not speak and looked a bit desolate.

”You don’t think the couple’s real purpose for coming to the Western Regions is just to trade, do you? Could they have come specifically for Tang Gui?” the monarch suddenly asked.

”Your Majesty thinks rightly, I have the same suspicions, and even the boy who inquired about Master Hao Feng the other day was rescued by them,” said Lian Jia.

The monarch frowned, ”How could they rescue a living person from the palace? Do they have an insider in the palace?”

Lian Jia laughed coldly, ”Your Majesty, don’t forget that Sangta is also in Gaochang City.”

The monarch’s face changed, but he quickly came to terms with it, saying, ”Sangta is just an external threat, not worth worrying about. Even if the Barbarian Clan wants to attack the Western Regions, they don’t have enough provisions, which is why our ancestors placed so much importance on the city walls.”

”But what’s the purpose of the Holy Hall’s alliance through marriage this time?” Lian Jia had a worried look on his face.

The monarch shook his head, ”That’s why I say external threats are not a concern, but this internal worry will eventually destroy the Western Regions. If things keep developing this way, even if the Western Regions aren’t annihilated by the Barbarian Clan, they will sooner or later be coveted by other countries. Look what the Holy Hall has done to the once prosperous Western Regions; decades ago, other countries used to send hostages here.”

Lian Jia sighed in agreement, and then his eyes lit up as he said to the monarch, ”Your Majesty, I think the Bai Shu couple are not spies from Danliang. They have completely fallen out with the Holy Hall. And Lin Zhu’s medical skills should be pretty good. Why not woo them to serve you? It might help against the Holy Hall.”

”You’re right, no matter what, they are opposed to the Holy Hall. As for whoever they are looking for, I’ll just help them,” the monarch thought, and his mood improved again.

...

Bai Ruozhu was escorted back to the inn by the Grand Princess, and just happened to be seen by Nilu, who had returned from procuring goods. He looked at Bai Ruozhu with admiration and immediately came over to greet her.

After the Grand Princess’s horse carriage left, Nilu’s face bloomed like a chrysanthemum, ”Madam, I’ve found a trading company interested in your goods. They are offering a very fair price.”

”Good job, find time in the next few days to arrange a meeting for me,” Bai Ruozhu said casually, having little interest in business matters at the moment.

Jiang Yichun had someone lead the horse to the back and walked over to encircle his wife’s waist. He then gave Nilu a cold look and asked, ”Anything else?”

Nilu hurriedly said, ”Nothing, nothing, it’s just that I’m so happy to have found the right master.”

Jiang Yichun sent him a glare, his voice cold, ”Just stay loyal, and my wife will surely not mistreat you. But remember your place, and if you harbor any second thoughts, even if my wife doesn’t deal with you, I will make sure someone brings me your head.”

Nilu shivered from the cold air Jiang Yichun had released; he had no doubt about the truth of Jiang Yichun’s words — he had seen firsthand this man’s ruthlessness.

”Yes, yes, this servant will remember,” Nilu stammered, his mouth trembling with fear.

After Jiang Yichun finished speaking, he escorted Bai Ruozhu back to their room, Bai Ruozhu holding back her laughter all the way until they were inside, and then she burst out laughing.

”You scared him so much he almost wet his pants,” she said.

”He sees we have some connections and might get crooked ideas. We can use him, but we also need to keep him in line, so he doesn’t dare to entertain any twisted thoughts,” Jiang Yichun explained.

Bai Ruozhu nodded. On the condition that Nilu wouldn’t ruin their plans, she wouldn’t mind being ruthless.

”What exactly is the situation with the monarch?” He pulled her to sit down by the bed and asked cautiously.

”As I expected, you know me best,” Bai Ruozhu lowered her voice and moved closer to his ear to share her findings and the reasons she had not spoken out immediately.

Jiang Yichun nodded repeatedly as he listened, ”You are right in your thinking. It was only today that I accidentally heard in the palace, the current Queen was arranged for the monarch by the Holy Hall. The monarch and the Queen have almost no affection between them, their relationship has always been quite bad, and the monarch has always favored Consort Qingxuan.”

”In that case, does the Queen know that the monarch has been poisoned? Is she afraid that I would discover something when inspecting? Is the mastermind behind the poisoning the Holy Hall?” Bai Ruozhu found it incredible, ”Why would the Queen want to harm her own husband for the Holy Hall? Isn’t the honor and splendor of being the Queen enough for her? Can the Holy Hall give her more?”

”Perhaps she has been brainwashed,” Jiang Yichun speculated, his hand moving to Bai Ruozhu’s collar, and suddenly he began unbuttoning her dress.

Bai Ruozhu was daydreaming and didn’t react until her collar was open and her skin felt cool. She glanced at him reproachfully and said, ”What are you doing in broad daylight!”

Jiang Yichun’s expression sobered up, ”Nothing, I just wanted to help you change your clothes.”

Bai Ruozhu was puzzled. She had changed her clothes in the morning; what did he mean by this?

He pulled off her outer garment and said through clenched teeth, ”You haven’t told me what happened today. Do you think I’m not aware?”

Bai Ruozhu sniffed and finally understood.

Animals usually have a certain scent, and earlier she had ridden a black panther, hence some of its scent had transferred onto her. Jiang Yichun must have memorized it the first time he smelled it, so this time he noticed it immediately.

Seeing his stern face, she knew he was jealous again and jokingly remarked, ”Why are you not suspicious of me today? Why don’t you interrogate me?”

Jiang Yichun grabbed her into his arms and squinted his eyes with a wicked smile, ”It seems like you are itching for a lesson. As your husband, I must uphold my duty,” he said.

”Bullshit about husband’s duty; if anything is to be upheld in our house, it’s the wife’s duty,” Bai Ruozhu argued while struggling.

Jiang Yichun pulled off her undergarment with a smirk, ”Wife’s duty? Then I shall let you perform it thoroughly.”

After that, he pounced on her, his actions silencing the words she was about to say. By the time Bai Ruozhu realized she was powerless to resist, it was already too late. She had been entirely devoured by this man, and that too in broad daylight. Who was it that said that ancient people were not allowed to engage in indecent acts during the day?
