After ‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍checking the registered names carefully, they discovered that the group didn’t even have any employment records. No jobs, no income. Were five healthy young men surviving on dew alone?

Even if they weren’t terrorists, they were probably no good.

This kind of tense, panic-stricken social environment couldn’t be maintained for long, so the police immediately decided to arrest and interrogate them first.

‘Bang, bang...’

”Open up! I’m the landlord. Time to check the water meter.”

The landlord knocked nervously on the door. Outside, four riot special police officers, who had only changed into their equipment after entering the apartment building, spread out to either side. Extraordinary times called for extraordinary measures. Every arrest was treated as though they were capturing actual terrorists, and police resources were allocated accordingly.

Besides the four frontline special police officers, an air-ground mobile bomb disposal unit stood by 200 meters away, ready to provide support at any moment.

”Ope—”

‘Boom!’

The apartment door suddenly exploded violently, blasting the landlord away from the entrance.

The special police officers waiting on both sides were also knocked to the ground by the unexpected explosion.

By the time they recovered and climbed back to their feet, the people inside had already smashed through the window and escaped.

The massive explosion also threw the surrounding civilians into panic. A nearby Special Police 6×6 riot vehicle immediately started up, turned around, and rushed toward the scene.

A patrol helicopter also flew above the fleeing suspects, its loudspeaker repeatedly broadcasting warnings:

【This is the Alliance Special Counter-Terrorism Investigation Unit! Immediately cease all physical movement! Under Supplementary Provision 56-02-1 of the Alliance Security Law, this unit is authorized to use force.】

【Warning ignored. Authorization granted to use weapons.】

A special police officer seated at the helicopter doorway raised a small-caliber rapid-fire sniper rifle and took aim.

Two shots struck the legs of the slowest runner.

”Urgh! It hurts! Boss Mir, save me!!!”

Mirzoyev glanced back at his fallen companion and shouted, ”Detonate it! Coward!” before continuing to flee without another look.

【Deploying Special Officers. Quantity: 2. Deployment complete.】

Two heavily armored Special Officers descended from the sky, cutting off the fugitives’ escape route.

”Damn it! Fariduni! Fayzov! Each of you take one person and split up! If you can’t escape, detonate yourselves on the spot! Even if we die, take a crowd down with us!”

Holding the backpack against his chest, Mirzoyev glared with bloodshot eyes at the two steel giants armed to the teeth.

His modified short-barreled shotgun blasted the mechs, producing only showers of sparks.

Even the magic he cast merely created ripples across their defenses without breaking through.

【Kneel and surrender. Otherwise, force will be used.】

The universal machine gun mounted on the mech’s arm pointed directly at Mirzoyev as its cold warning echoed from the small loudspeaker mounted on its chest.

To the Alliance, living terrorists were more valuable than dead ones.

They needed a breakthrough to uncover the nation and individuals orchestrating everything behind the scenes, so the special police had exercised considerable restraint.

However, their highest priority remained unchanged—whether alive or dead, they had to recover the target.

When lethal force became necessary, they would not hesitate.

Aside from the routine warning they were required to issue, they needed no further justification.

Mirzoyev laughed bitterly.

”Surrender? If I don’t die, they’ll die! All of you can go to hell with me!”

As he slightly moved his hand, the backpack strapped to his chest began flashing rapidly.

Realizing something was wrong, the Special Officer’s mechanical finger immediately squeezed the trigger.

The MG42 instantly erupted with its signature buzzing roar, shredding the man and his backpack into pieces before the unknown device could detonate.

The officer on the right, who had hesitated for a split second, cursed under his breath.

”Damn it. He got off easy.”

”Nothing we could do. Hopefully the others can capture someone alive.”

【Emergency! Alert Level: Red Alert Level 1. All armed personnel within District 9 are to immediately withdraw to the perimeter of District 9 and await further orders.】

【All personnel currently on duty are to immediately change into protective equipment and evacuate civilians from the areas surrounding District 9. Frontline combat personnel are to proceed to the outer perimeter of District 9 and establish a blockade. Once in position, no one—including police personnel—is permitted to leave!】

【Repeat. Emergency. Alert Level: Red Alert Level 1...】

After hearing the command center’s transmission, the two officers exchanged bewildered glances.

Looking up, they saw a dense crimson mist rapidly engulfing the surrounding area less than 500 meters away.

Cries for help and terrified screams echoed one after another with startling clarity.

For some reason, both of their hearts suddenly began racing.

An indescribable sense of terror welled up inside them.

‘Hiss...’

At some point, foul-smelling smoke had begun swirling around them.

A faint crimson mist and a milky-white radiance surrounded their bodies.

Under the illumination of the white light, the mist rapidly dissipated, evaporating into a nauseating stench.

Turning around, they saw a pillar of light stretching from heaven to earth erupting continuously from the spire of the Sangahaji Holy Light Cathedral.

A magnificent white curtain of light swept past behind them toward the Red Mist.

Wherever it passed through what had appeared to be perfectly normal surroundings, hissing sounds erupted everywhere.

Thin strands of crimson mist were forced out before completely evaporating.

‘ROAR!!!’

An inhuman roar echoed through the air like the sounding of a war horn.

Howls erupted one after another from every direction, accompanied by the pounding of countless feet.

The two watched helplessly as countless human figures emerged from within the Red Mist, charging toward them on all fours.

”Holy shit! What are those things?!”

”Calling Command! A massive number of civilians have suddenly appeared inside the Red Mist...”

A woman’s voice suddenly rang out from loudspeakers throughout the streets and alleys:

【I am Midia, Empress of the Alliance. I hereby officially declare Sangahaji State to be under an emergency wartime state.】

【All military units are immediately authorized to remove weapons restrictions. Within Sangahaji State, anyone encountered moving on all fours, anyone without a firearm in hand, or anyone showing hostile intent is to be executed on the spot without warning.】

【All residents are strictly ordered to remain indoors. In emergencies, contact the government emergency hotline. Violators will be prosecuted as spies.】

【All military personnel within District 9 of the capital and the surrounding areas are to immediately withdraw to their designated supply drop zones and await supply deployment. Equip protective masks and oxygen tanks immediately. Under no circumstances may anyone leave the designated area. Violators will have their public office revoked immediately without review. Anyone resisting will be executed on the spot.】

Midia stood inside the command center of the Sangahaji State Police Headquarters with her arms folded, listening as operators from each district reported the latest developments.

”The entire First Investigation Team has lost contact and is presumed killed in action. The several heavily armored Special Officers assigned to the First Investigation Team still show stable vital signs.”

”Investigation Team Two, Squads 1, 2, and 3 have lost contact. Squad 4’s Special Operations Team is still transmitting, but their ammunition is nearly exhausted and they are requesting air support.”

”All regular police officers and patrol special police units have been classified as missing. There has been no response to radio communications.”

Midia’s expression remained icy.

”Stop calling them. Tell anyone who can still hear the broadcasts to withdraw to the edge of District 9. Five minutes from now, send District 9’s coordinates to the artillery units.”
