Both sides amassed large armies along the border, and the situation was on the verge of erupting into war.

Cabansia did not want to become the vanguard and be the first to bite into the hard bone that was the Alliance’s homeland garrison, while the Alliance did not want to waste its time on Cabansia.

Its logistics were already approaching their limit.

As long as the main battlefield remained outside Alliance territory, that was sufficient.

However, not everyone within the Allied Nations was an incompetent fool living on appearances. They would not allow the Alliance to achieve all of its objectives according to its own pace.

The Alliance’s civilian airliners had only entered service a few years earlier. They had yet to be fully deployed throughout Alliance territory, and the aerial transportation network was still under construction.

This passenger aircraft normally would never have appeared inside Cabansia.

However, the situation had changed dramatically over the past two years. Many Alliance citizens had originally come from the Kingdom of Cabansia, and they wanted to bring their families into the Alliance to escape the war.

In principle, every Alliance citizen could apply for one relative to receive a special fast-track citizenship approval. These people therefore naturally became prospective Alliance citizens.

To facilitate this, the Alliance Ministry of Foreign Affairs negotiated with the Kingdom of Cabansia. After offering several minor concessions, the two sides established an international air route to help those citizens’ families enter the Alliance and escape the war. That was why this aircraft had appeared here.

Each country provided half of the flight crew. Cabansia was responsible for ground operations and security, while the Alliance handled piloting and passenger cabin services.

Before this, the route had completed twelve flights without incident.

This would be its thirteenth.

Most people had never seen such an enormous yet graceful steel bird before. Exclamations of amazement rose one after another. Filled with excitement at finally setting foot on safe land, they lined up beside the boarding stairs, presenting their passports before boarding.

Several ground crew members finished loading luggage into the lower cargo hold. They exchanged glances before closing the cargo door and leaving.

Marika sat in her seat, curiously looking around. From time to time, she reached out to touch the fabric-covered armrest. At that moment, a flight attendant dressed in a skirt suit approached her and thoughtfully lowered the folding tray table.

【We will begin serving meals shortly. You can find the menu in the seat pocket in front of you.】

“Oh... oh! Alright, thank you.”

Marika froze for a moment before hurriedly thanking her.

The flight attendant nodded with a warm smile.

【You’re welcome. Please wait a moment.】

The flight attendant continued down the aisle, helping each passenger with their questions and requests.

As the flight attendant gradually walked away, the silent stranger seated beside Marika finally turned toward her.

“Your name is Marika, isn’t it? Your younger brother, Monk, is a Second Lieutenant in the Alliance Army.”

Marika looked at him in confusion.

“How do you know that? Who are you?”

“Do we know each other?”

The stranger smiled pleasantly.

“Perhaps you don’t know me, but I know you, Marika. Your younger brother was once an outstanding soldier of the Kingdom. He even fought the rebels of Olyalu and Sangahaji. Unfortunately... he was corrupted.”

Marika frowned in disgust.

“That was a long time ago.”

Her younger brother, Monk, had served under a powerful local noble. Every deployment had essentially been an emergency reinforcement mission, after which he would return to his original garrison.

Because of that, she had heard many stories from the battlefield.

According to Monk, calling those operations ”suppression campaigns” was far less accurate than calling them massacres of civilians.

At the time, the rebellions across several states had already grown to an enormous scale, and the overwhelming majority of the rebels were commoners.

That naturally gave rise to one question.

How could anyone distinguish rebels from ordinary civilians?

The Kingdom of Cabansia’s answer was simple.

There was no need to distinguish them.

Kill everyone you saw.

If you killed a rebel, then you had eliminated a rebel.

If you killed an innocent civilian, then you had eliminated a potential rebel.

Under such a policy, anyone ruthless enough would naturally turn their blade upon defenseless civilians in exchange for military merit.

Why not attack the actual rebels?

Because the rebels really did have guns and artillery.

In a head-on battle, no one could guarantee who would survive long enough to earn military merit.

Unable to accept such a reality, Monk had used the reward he received after that successful suppression campaign to purchase his discharge and flee.

As the sister who had depended upon him for survival, Marika understood his decision.

That subject had never been mentioned again.

Now that someone had deliberately brought it up once more, what she felt was not only disgust—

But fear.

The stranger’s smile disappeared.

He pulled a revolver from his coat, pointed it at her, and threatened in a low voice,

“Don’t make a sound! Listen carefully. We’ve already taken control of this aircraft. The Air Marshals are all our people. And now, so are you!”

Marika was forced toward the cabin crew area.

All four flight attendants had already been tied up and gagged.

Inside the cockpit, one Air Marshal held a gun against the blood-covered captain, forcing him to descend to a lower altitude.

The other two were disposing of the bodies of the remaining crew members.

The man shoved Marika beside one of his companions.

A young man climbed out of the cargo hold carrying a backpack. After handing it over to the man, he climbed back into the cargo hold.

The man unzipped the backpack.

Inside were bundles upon bundles of black powder.

Marika’s face instantly turned pale.

After living through years of chaos in Cabansia, almost no one failed to recognize what it was.

Many had even experienced it firsthand.

“That’s a very good reaction. I’m looking forward to your performance next.”

As he spoke, he began strapping bundles of explosives onto Marika’s body, stopping only after her entire upper body was covered.

“You bastard! Take these off! Everyone on this plane is Cabansian! How can you do this?!”

The man gently pressed a finger against Marika’s lips.

“Shh, Marika. Today, you’ll become Cabansia’s hero. Anyone who opposes the Kingdom deserves to die, especially traitors.”

“And you... are a freedom fighter inspired by the Kingdom, wholeheartedly opposing the Alliance. Your life will be sublimated in a blaze of fireworks. The sins of both you and your brother will be washed away.”

‘Boss, we’ve descended to two thousand meters. Speed has also been reduced to the minimum.’

“Oh, then let’s begin.”

As he spoke, the man lit the fuse attached to Marika’s explosives.

The fuse burned extremely quickly, though it was long enough that it would take some time before reaching the charges.

“Are you a terrorist?”

Marika cried out, “No! I’m not!”

“But right now... you certainly look like one.”

The man shoved Marika back toward his companion before putting on the Parachute Pack someone handed him.

He patted it with satisfaction.

“Alliance products really are good stuff~”

After putting on the pack, they opened the cabin door. Protected by Magical Shields while using magic to counter the rushing airflow, several of them leaped out one after another.

The remaining terrorist dragged Marika toward the passenger cabin.

The moment the passengers saw a woman covered in explosives rush into the cabin, terrified screams erupted everywhere.

Marika struggled desperately with her hands tied behind her back, sweat pouring down her face.

“Quick! Put out the fuse on me!!!”

Before the stunned passengers could even react, a violent explosion suddenly erupted from the cargo hold.

The blast wave and flames shattered the aircraft’s internal compartments and swept through the passenger cabin.

The airliner exploded into a magnificent fireball in midair.

Watching the burning aircraft fall toward the earth like a blazing meteor, the man landed gracefully before activating his Magical Communication device.

“The mission has been completed successfully. War between the Alliance and Cabansia is now inevitable.”

“Excellent. Conservatively speaking, the Alliance will now be forced to deploy at least another 500,000 troops, along with their logistical supplies, into this region. The crisis on the main battlefield has been resolved.”
