Only during formal occasions were ranks distinguished between superiors and subordinates.

That ‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍applied to officers and enlisted personnel alike, let alone officers of equivalent standing. No matter how much higher your rank was, you had no authority to interfere with another officer’s command over his own unit, nor did you have the authority to control his supply allocation. If someone did not feel like acknowledging you, they could simply ignore you. Completely legal and fully within regulations.

Among ‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍the officers present, the highest rank had already reached Lieutenant General, yet no one expressed any dissatisfaction with Erich’s actions. This was a very common practice at Serra Military Academy, and everyone had long since become accustomed to it.

Thinking ‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍about problems from the perspective of a higher-ranking commander was what the Alliance military valued most—initiative.

Therefore, ‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍every officer graduating from the military academy had to learn to think from the perspective of their superior. A squad leader thought like a platoon leader, a platoon leader thought like a company commander, and so on.

The ‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍Alliance strongly discouraged the rear headquarters from directly commanding the details of frontline operations. Every frontline combat commander possessed complete autonomy over the employment of his own troops. The General Staff Headquarters could only assign operational objectives. The specific battle plans and deployments were entirely left to the frontline officers based on their own circumstances, while the rear headquarters functioned only as a large coordination center.

This was delegated command, also known as mission command.

Higher command could only specify what needed to be accomplished and why it needed to be accomplished.

It could not issue detailed instructions on ”how” it was to be accomplished.

The greatest possible autonomy was entrusted to frontline commanders.

Under the influence of this philosophy, everyone seriously considered the feasibility of the tactical concept proposed by Erich, a mere lieutenant serving as a platoon leader.

“Your idea has no problems, and it leaves plenty of room for execution, but... frontline reconnaissance... Right! We can have our comrades in the Air Force fight alongside us.”

“They’ll be responsible for reconnaissance, target acquisition, and carrying out the first wave of airstrikes. Then our rapidly maneuvering forces will quickly destroy whatever enemy defenses remain in the ensuing chaos, after which the mechanized infantry will move in to consolidate the position and eliminate the remaining resistance. Then we simply repeat the cycle.”

“This is highly feasible! It would allow us to fully exploit the advantages of our armored forces.”

“The only problem is that the right-wing forces are highly likely to collide head-on with the Allied elite troops around Luke. They certainly won’t just stand by and watch us accomplish our objectives.”

“Then assign the majority of the Tiger Heavy Tank divisions to the right-wing forces. The Tiger’s marching speed actually isn’t slow. The reason we previously excluded it from rapid maneuver warfare was because if a Tiger broke down, we couldn’t repair it quickly enough.”

“In that case, we might as well assign the Tigers to the right-wing army group and have them establish a standoff against the Allied main forces in the Luke region. Meanwhile, the other two forces continue executing the rapid maneuver penetration plan, regroup at Torveta State, and then launch the main assault toward Borregate, completely surrounding every Allied force that comes out like wrapping dumplings!”

Once they had a general strategic concept, everyone contributed ideas one after another, rapidly fleshing out the plan. They worked through the night to compile it into a formal document before submitting it to the General Staff Headquarters for evaluation.

At that moment, hardly anyone inside the General Staff Headquarters was sleeping either.

The pressure they carried was no less immense.

People with different responsibilities handled different tasks.

It was impossible for Midia to concern herself with something as absurd as ordering a frontline machine gun to be shifted five centimeters to the side.

Instead, she continuously provided the military with weapons, equipment, and manpower from the homeland while calming public anxiety and encouraging enlistment.

The responsibility of the General Staff Headquarters was to properly allocate those resources.

The responsibility of frontline commanders was to maximize the effectiveness of those weapons and equipment.

None of these three roles could be dispensed with.

Each fulfilled an irreplaceable function.

Among them, however, the General Staff Headquarters bore the greatest pressure.

That was why the overwhelming majority of the Alliance’s elite talent had gathered within that department.

Naturally, they also wanted to maximize the Alliance’s overwhelming armored strength.

The problem was that the Alliance itself had very few examples of large-scale armored formation warfare to study.

Even they were uncertain how armored forces should best be employed.

The offensive proposal submitted by the frontline field officers finally gave them a clear direction.

Although the Alliance’s territory appeared very small on the strategic map, consisting almost entirely of coastal regions protected by the navy,

That did not mean the Alliance’s military strength could only defend such a limited area.

The reason they had not struck outward was simply because the fist they had drawn back had not yet chosen its direction or target.

Now...

It had.

Moreover, because the enemy’s numbers had become too overwhelming, the Air Force had temporarily suspended its bombing campaign and returned all aircraft to rear airfields for maintenance and repairs.

At the same time, new aircraft were continuously arriving to expand its strength.

In other words,

The Alliance’s air and ground forces now stood fully prepared.

They were entirely capable of meeting every requirement necessary to execute this operation.

Since it could be done,

There was no longer any reason to hesitate.

After repeated discussions, revisions, and consolidation, the final operational plan was officially approved.

Operation Codename:

【Storm Assault】

Large numbers of units received transfer orders and began rotating defensive positions, gradually concentrating within three principal occupation zones.

Meanwhile, large numbers of dive bombers from the Alliance homeland were transferred to newly expanded temporary field airfields on the main continent for preparation.

The 1st and 2nd Airborne Divisions also received orders transferring them from the Holy See Nation to the western front to await further instructions.

This was because the Allied forces actually possessed no shortage of tanks and armored constructs.

In fact, purely in terms of armor protection, they surpassed the Alliance’s light and medium tanks by two entire tiers.

Their only weakness was their rather miserable mobility.

The surrounding nations had all suffered under the Alliance’s overwhelming firepower.

As a result, nearly every nation had become obsessed with defense.

The Britian Empire had even developed a multi-turreted super-heavy tank weighing more than seventy tons.

This was not because the Alliance’s alloy steel was heavier due to its greater density.

The Alliance’s tanks were actually quite streamlined.

Britian’s vehicle, however, had literally been built from solid iron.

Without its anti-gravity device, its weight would easily exceed one hundred tons.

Simply driving it along a road resembled a mountain slowly sliding across the landscape.

Whether it was actually useful was beside the point.

At least, in the eyes of Britian’s soldiers,

It was a moving fortress wall that could fire back.

It protected them extremely well.

As for its slow speed?

Slower was better!

If it moved too quickly, how were they supposed to keep up using only their two legs?

That was precisely why dive bombing possessed far superior precision strike capabilities than level bombing, making it much better suited for supporting rapid frontline assault forces.

In less than half a month, the Alliance recalled every unit it could possibly withdraw.

Even among the several hundred thousand troops supporting the Kingdom of Suria, more than half were recalled.

Combined with the large numbers of newly raised forces transported afterward, the Alliance ultimately assembled approximately 105 divisions with a total strength approaching two million personnel.

However, because logistical formations were included in that total, the actual number of regular combat troops was considerably lower, approximately between 750,000 and 900,000.

The relatively small manpower requirement resulted from their high degree of mechanization.

Many duties previously performed by soldiers had now been taken over by various types of equipment, further reducing personnel requirements.

Night fell.

Erich stood before a full-length mirror, carefully straightening his military uniform.

His movements were slow and meticulous.

Patiently smoothing every wrinkle.

This was how he adjusted his emotions.

Because once he walked out that door,

He probably would not have the luxury of worrying about such details again for a very long time.

After putting on his military cap, he glanced once at his handsome reflection in the mirror.

Then he turned, pushed open the door, and walked outside.

His adjutant had already been waiting outside for quite some time.

Erich nodded.

The two walked together toward the area of the parade ground where the company commander was waiting.

Soon, a clear, piercing whistle echoed through the night sky.

The dark, silent barracks immediately came alive with activity.

Before long, large numbers of soldiers ran out of their barracks toward their respective squad armories to arm themselves.

They donned exoskeletons already carrying fully loaded tactical backpacks, picked up their AKM assault rifles, and rapidly assembled on the parade ground.

Throughout the entire process,

Not a single person spoke.

There were only footsteps,

The sound of machinery grinding,

And engines roaring to life throughout the camp.

After completing roll call and assembly, each squad and platoon quickly boarded its assigned vehicles.

The tank crews climbed aboard the tanks that had already been loaded onto heavy transport transporters.

Powerful engine roars erupted.

All-terrain reconnaissance vehicles took the lead.

Infantry fighting vehicles protected both flanks.

Behind them followed the wheeled assault guns,

The tank transporters,

Troop trucks towing artillery,

And finally large numbers of logistics, maintenance, and support vehicles.
