I Became a Witch and Started an Industrial Revolution

The advantage was that, to anyone who believed in Them, They were the source of all power. They were power itself.

Whether by eradicating dissent through inquisitions or under any other pretext, a second voice was absolutely forbidden to exist.

It ‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍was like constructing a towering building out of thin air in the middle of a field. Once the bowstring had been drawn, there was no turning back. Even knowing the foundation was unstable, it could never be demolished. They could only do everything possible to keep the building from collapsing.

Even ‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍if it was already swaying on the verge of collapse, They still had to claim it was as solid as a rock. The moment doubt emerged, the information cocoon painstakingly woven to conceal the truth would collapse on its own, fundamentally shaking the legitimacy of Their existence.

Midia, ‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍however, never had to worry about that. Only those who lied needed a thousand, ten thousand, countless more lies to cover up the previous one.

She ‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍neither needed to nor feared being questioned, because the overwhelming majority of questions would ultimately be turned into something constructive by her.

If someone raised a question, they had to think of a solution instead of merely arguing for the sake of arguing. She was only responsible for summarizing the solutions proposed by everyone.

In other words, the more people who worked toward the same goal, the more stable her divine rank became and the harder it was to overthrow her. This was using the fruits of collective thought to nourish herself in return. It had nothing to do with whether they believed in her. Believing in this path was enough.

For others, there was first a god, then a path.

For her, there was first a path, then a god.

Her godhood had originally come about by pure coincidence.

Questioning her was not truly questioning her.

It was questioning a vast number of pioneers.

Those people were her True Believers, and they were also the foundation that allowed her to exist safely.

People were, for the most part, absolutely convinced of their own way of living and understanding the world. That wholehearted conviction provided faith power that was far purer and more abundant than that of other believers.

As long as this ideology still existed in the world, she could not die. Besides, she was incredibly durable. At worst, she would lie low for a year or so before bouncing back full of life. If those gods died once, however, no one knew how many ages it would take before they could be resurrected again.

That was also the fundamental reason why the Goddess of Light became increasingly irritated as the fights dragged on, eventually reaching the point where she no longer wanted to fight Midia at all and simply wanted to avoid her. She could not kill her, and even if she paid an enormous price to do so, it still would not seriously injure Midia. So what was the point of fighting?

Even the other gods did not want to confront her directly. They only targeted her through armies, churches, nobles, and other means. As long as the Alliance still existed, its ideology had not disintegrated, and there were still people who firmly believed in it, there was simply no way to eliminate her.

Without destroying the Alliance, they could not eliminate her.

If they did destroy the Alliance, they might instead trigger a special nostalgia buff for the past, making her even harder to eliminate.

That was the fundamental reason they had adopted a scorched-earth strategy against the subcontinent. Unless they completely exterminated the people of the subcontinent, this war would have been fought in vain. In fact, even exterminating the subcontinent was no longer enough. The same ideology was already spreading through Suria, Ernesto, and even Demitria.

It was like a towering tree.

The tree was still standing there, but its roots had long since spread to unknown places.

That was why Midia desperately compressed the Alliance’s limits, pushing production capacity and resources to their absolute extremes, while the Allied Nations launched exhausting expeditions from tens of thousands of kilometers away.

Because the feudal enfeoffment system could not maintain absolute control over the territories it ruled, it naturally could not resist the infiltration of ideas. At the current rate, it would not be long before this ideology spread throughout the continent. They had to crush this rising tide with a single blow before it could fully surge.

Both sides understood this perfectly.

Either they crushed it once and for all, continued living as noble lords, and kept enjoying themselves.

Or, if they failed to crush it...

Every single one of them would die.

Naturally, Midia refused to accept the outcome of being crushed to death. No matter what, she had to stall them, and the odds of victory were also greatest on her side.

In fact, the moment the Allied Nations dispatched large numbers of elite troops and the bulk of their regular armies, she had already sentenced those countries to death in her heart.

She might not win this war.

But she certainly would not lose it.

The greatest loser had already been decided from the very beginning.

The Allied Nations believed the Alliance was their greatest enemy.

It was not.

Their greatest enemy was the capitalists who were currently bowing and scraping under the control of those nobles in the countries where the Alliance’s industrialization had not yet spread—people who humbled themselves like dogs.

Her true opponent had never been feudal monarchies.

If magic did not exist, she would have conquered the world centuries ago.

Her greatest opponent had always been capital, with its powerful ability to corrupt and assimilate.

Yet capital itself was harmless.

If properly controlled, it even had countless useful applications.

As long as she held back the main military forces of those kingdoms and empires, it would not take long before the capitalists within those countries seized this perfect opportunity to launch great revolutions. By then, with their domestic military strength emptied out, not a single one of those nations would escape.

What capitalist would pass up such a wonderful opportunity?

Overthrowing a few nobles would free them from heavy taxes, allowing them to expand recklessly and grow stronger without ever having to worry about noble interference again.

Magic?

As long as the profits were high enough, even if the Goddess of Magic herself descended, she could not suppress human nature!

Just offer them an 800% profit margin and see whether they dared sell the Goddess’s worn panties!

With a little market competition, they would probably sell the entire outfit for only a 300% profit margin. It did not matter whether the merchandise was genuine or fake—they would still dare sell it while staring down the threat of divine punishment.

They were only afraid that you would not dare buy it.

Zhu Baba had already proven one truth.

You really could kill until your hands trembled and still never finish killing everyone.

They wanted money, not their lives.

Capitalists feared death.

What they feared was dying before spending all their money or before earning enough—not death itself.

Because capitalists who feared death would inevitably be replaced by capitalists who did not.

No one could truly possess capital.

The moment someone could no longer keep it multiplying and increasing in value more efficiently, that capitalist would simply be replaced by a new capitalist.

Therefore, if there was anything capable of forcing them into submission and making them dance according to someone else’s rules,

It was an even greater body of capital.

The State-Capital System adopted by Midia relied on maintaining an overwhelming advantage in the total amount of capital, using capital to restrain capital and thereby indirectly directing the development of the Alliance’s overall capital.

Capital could corrupt anyone.

Except her.

It had nothing to do with ideals.

Or rather, ideals alone might not have been a sufficiently reliable explanation.

Ultimately, it was because capital offered her very little benefit.

More precisely, the benefits she desired could never be provided by capital. That fundamental conflict alone had already severed any possibility of capital continuing to elevate itself through her.

After all, if she wished for her own life to exist eternally without the cycle of mortality, and if she wanted the people she cared about to remain with her for much longer, then she had to place the interests of the overwhelming majority first. Only by treating the masses as the water that carried the boat, nurturing more talented people and strengthening her own abilities through them, could she accomplish what she wanted.

Those priceless things were precisely what capital could never provide, no matter how infinitely it expanded.

Faced with threats to her life, there was no possibility of her losing her reason and being corrupted.

Even from the standpoint of human nature, it would have been a losing transaction for her.

After all, the most fundamental prerequisite for capital to corrupt someone was that there had to be profit.

Otherwise, how could it tempt the desires hidden within human nature?

“Your Majesty, it’s time for your meal~”

Anna gently knocked on the door. Only after receiving permission did she enter with a pair of twin girls, pushing a dining cart.

A graceful smile adorned her mature and beautiful face. There was not the slightest trace of the villainous aura that the rumored ”Imperial Butcher” was supposed to possess according to the gossip outside.

Still, whoever had spread that rumor had certainly put some thought into it.

One insult branded her as ”Imperial.”

The other branded her as a ”Butcher.”

Two slanders packed into one title.

Midia stepped forward and embraced Anna before placing a hand against her back to examine her condition.

“It seems it really worked. The results are quite good.”

This was a unique way of extending one’s lifespan in the magical world.

Strictly speaking, it was not really a technique.

Simply put, when people of different life levels spent long periods together, the lower-level individual would naturally be attracted to the higher-level one and passively improve themselves.

To actively strengthen and accelerate this special effect, however, the person being enhanced had to place wholehearted trust in the one enhancing them before there was any chance of success.

After all, they were two independent living beings. Under normal circumstances, the body instinctively resisted and rejected anything that was not originally part of itself, regardless of whether it was beneficial or harmful. That was why there was only a chance of success, not a certainty.

Anna, however, was a fanatic.

She had no such concerns at all.

If there was any disagreement between the two of them, it was that Anna wanted to optimize her body so she could serve as an even better bodyguard.

While Midia simply wanted to make her breasts bigger~
