Undead Mage from a Cell

Chapter 97: Chapter 95: The Eerie White Star Lake Village

The lights on White Star Lake were still flickering, yet among these twinkling lights, there was always a chilling and eerie feeling.

As Gu Xi’s Evil Coffin entered the lake surface area of White Star Lake, he clearly sensed that something beneath the ice was pursuing him.

The four Ghosts beside Gu Xi were itching to break through the ice layer and drag up whatever lay beneath.

Meanwhile, Gu Xi lay on the coffin lid, wrapped in a cotton coat, holding the Shattering Staff, ready to strike at any moment.

As Gu Xi was staring intently at the ice surface, suddenly, a human corpse floated beneath the ice. The corpse had been soaked under the ice for an unknown length of time, with its eyes and most of its skin almost completely gnawed away by fish.

While drifting past under the ice, the corpse suddenly rolled its eyes, revealing hollow sockets devoid of eyeballs.

Gu Xi, who was watching every movement beneath the ice surface, was startled by this development; his hand shook, and the Shattering Staff struck the ice.

This weapon, the Shattering Staff, was mainly intended for shield-breaking; the higher the enemy’s defense, the stronger the Shattering Staff’s attack effect.

At the same time, this effect could also be applied to city walls, city gates, or mountain surfaces, and the ice surface fell within the Shattering Staff’s scope.

With this unintentional strike, Gu Xi instantly cracked the ice surface.

A strong blast of Yin Qi burst forth from beneath the ice, startling Gu Xi.

But in the very next moment, as the cold wind blew, the cracked ice refroze, and the Yin Qi dispersed in the wind. If it weren’t for the clear cracks on the ice surface, Gu Xi might have doubted whether everything that had happened was merely an illusion.

Precisely because of this, Gu Xi was instead invigorated.

Gu Xi sat up straight, halted the Evil Coffin, and kept watching the situation on the ice surface from atop the coffin lid.

”Something’s wrong under this lake.”

After a moment of silence, Gu Xi realized the problem: everything around was overly quiet. Even with lake ice sealed by snow, the residents within White Star Lake should be active.

The situation before him was clearly abnormal, and Gu Xi wasted no time in making a decision. ”Go to the nearest small house.”

The Evil Coffin, hearing this, changed direction on the ice surface, rushing directly toward the closest spot to Gu Xi, rather than heading to where there were the most water houses on White Star Lake.

Gu Xi, who had been lying on the coffin lid, sat up a bit more, wrapped himself in the cotton blanket, and scrutinized the surrounding situation seriously.

In about a minute or so, the Evil Coffin stopped in front of a small house on the water.

As soon as Gu Xi saw this small house, he understood the situation of the house before him.

This type of small house was a kind of water house built of wood, with a height of about one meter above the water surface, using wooden frame supports as the floor, upon which a small wooden house was constructed.

The entire small house was not very big, supported by a total of eight wooden pillars and covering an area of approximately twenty square meters.

When Gu Xi approached, he could see many dried fish hanging around the small house, and some logs piled on the wooden platform.

The whole small house was filled with a sense of life.

But as Gu Xi drew near the small house, he noticed that there were lights inside the house, yet not a hint of human presence.

”Go and check it out.”

Gu Xi waved his hand, and the four Ghosts flew toward the small house.

Meanwhile, behind Gu Xi, the gates of Death City were slowly appearing.

Concerned something might have happened here, Gu Xi was already prepared for battle.

At that moment, the Ghosts that entered the small house came flying back out. From their demeanor, it was clear that the small house was empty.

This situation puzzled Gu Xi as he maneuvered the Evil Coffin closer to the small house, then leapt to the entrance.

By then, the door of the small house had already been pushed open. Gu Xi peeked inside and noticed the house was piled with various thick furs, and in the corner, there were some weapons and fish spears made of bones.

The fireplace in the small house had burnt out, and the light Gu Xi saw earlier came from an Oil Lamp hanging down from the roof.

This Oil Lamp was the only metal object in the small house and was completely mismatched with the style of the house. Hanging there, the mere thumb-sized flame allowed Gu Xi and the others outside the house to feel as though someone was home.

This made Gu Xi’s scalp tingle.

This was beyond the means of the Undead.

Just as Gu Xi was about to withdraw, he suddenly felt his feet uncontrollably moving toward the Oil Lamp.

”Damn it, Psychic Power again. Next time I go out, I must find a way to become immune to Mind Control.”

Gu Xi roared angrily in his heart, but his hands didn’t stop as he pointed the Shattering Staff at the Oil Lamp.

”Bone Spike!”

At Gu Xi’s command, a White Bone shot towards the Oil Lamp.

But just as the White Bone was about to reach the Oil Lamp, a Walrus People figure with tusks emerged from the Lamp, blocking the blow.

With just this, Gu Xi understood what was happening.

It seemed that White Star Lake had been affected by invading Undead.

There was a big shot among them who, through some means, had controlled the entire village area of White Star Lake.

The Oil Lamp in front of him was a part of that big shot. He employed an unorthodox method different from the Undead, using Psychic influence to make everyone who saw the light instinctively walk into the Oil Lamp.

Their bodies would serve as fuel for the Oil Lamp.

As for their souls, once the body was lost, the soul naturally became Undead, which might get packed up and taken away, or perhaps be influenced by other means as a part of the big shot’s other plans.

Understanding this made Gu Xi break out in a cold sweat.

”Ghosts, put out that Oil Lamp for me.”

Under Gu Xi’s command, the four Ghosts quickly lunged out.

But before the Ghosts could even approach the Oil Lamp, they were stopped by a burst of flames.

Gu Xi saw the Walrus People engulfed in flames within the Oil Lamp, not moving at all, clearly dead the moment the flames were lit.

”Corpse Burst!”

Seeing that the Ghosts couldn’t get close, Gu Xi swiftly changed tactics, pointing at the corpse of the Walrus People inside the Oil Lamp and using a Secondary Corpse Burst.

At the moment of striking, Gu Xi didn’t think much, believing that by blowing up the corpse that fueled the Oil Lamp, the Lamp would naturally lose its function.

But he never imagined this was exactly what the enemy was waiting for.

As the corpse of the Walrus People inside the Oil Lamp exploded, the entire small house simultaneously blew apart.

Gu Xi was blown away by the explosion’s impact, crashing heavily onto the ice surface.
