Ice Age Apocalypse: I Hoard Billions of Supplies

Frog scratched his head. He was a frog easily satisfied, so a small pond was enough for him.

But who could resist the temptation of an entire river?

So, after thinking it over, and with Zhang Yi’s enthusiastic invitation, he nodded and agreed to go back with Zhang Yi.

Zhang Yi intended to keep this insect-catching expert. That way, if any pest or disease disaster occurred in Tianhai City again in the future, it would be easier to handle.

Moreover, he felt Frog’s potential was quite good, with a lot of room for growth in the future.

After discussing it, Zhang Yi brought them back to his Shelter.

This was the first time Gao Tianwu and the others had been to Zhang Yi’s Shelter.

Nowadays, this place was one of the most luxurious residences in the entire Huaxu Kingdom.

Even the highest commander of the Jiangnan Region, Zhu Zheng, his house in Blizzard City was only about this level.

A massive and splendid villa, with heating conditions that kept it like spring all year round.

When they stepped through that heavy alloy door, Gao Tianwu and his brothers, along with Frog, were stunned.

That sudden warmth that swept over their entire bodies, even a somewhat hot feeling, was far too unfamiliar to them.

Zhang Yi prepared clean clothes for them, but first had them change into patient gowns to receive treatment from Zhou Ke’er.

After all, having fought those filthy cockroaches, they were inevitably infected with many kinds of terrible viruses.

But these were just minor issues for the current Zhou Ke’er.

With ample medicine, plus her Doctor ability and rich medical experience, she quickly bandaged them up and administered injections.

This comfortable environment solidified Gao Tianwu and the others’ determination to follow Zhang Yi.

Zhang Yi could see what they were thinking.

He said to them, ”Right now, I have three bases under my command. The internal environment, while not as good as here, is still suitable for living.”

”I will send you to one of these bases next. You’ll have to rely on your own hands to strive for a higher position.”

”This is the Apocalypse now. There aren’t so many complicated connections. Even if you’re not someone’s relative or child, as long as you’re capable enough, you can climb up.”

”Good material life, reputation, status, women—all of this, as long as you’re strong enough, is within easy reach.”

The few of them felt their hearts surge with excitement at Zhang Yi’s words.

These things were something they wouldn’t even dare to think about back in that tiny village.

”I’ve given you the opportunity. It’s up to you to see if you can make good on it.”

Zhang Yi still gave them some supplies, but not too much.

It wasn’t because he was stingy, but because if these people brought too many things to the Dawn Rain Base, being newcomers, they would easily attract unwanted attention.

Anyway, once they went to the Dawn Rain Base, they would have no worries about food and clothing. This opportunity was more valuable than any amount of supplies.

While Zhang Yi was chatting with Gao Tianwu and the others, Frog was getting along famously with Hua Hua and Totoro at home.

This frog seemed to have a natural affinity, simply put, he was a social butterfly. He could get along with anyone.

Hua Hua was lazily sleeping in her cat bed in front of the fireplace, and he could still chatter away beside her for half a day.

However, when he learned that Totoro could actually play the flute, his big eyes suddenly shone with incredibly bright light.

”Wow! Are you also a mutated human?”

Totoro looked blank, clearly not understanding Frog’s words.

After being picked up by Zhang Yi, Zhou Ke’er and the others had studied Totoro for a long time but still couldn’t figure out exactly what species it was.

Without being able to determine this, they couldn’t even develop a targeted animal translator.

But no one was in a hurry. Totoro’s personality was very gentle. Although it had a relatively high superhuman ability index, it didn’t seem skilled in combat.

Keeping it at home as a pet could also liven up the atmosphere of the Shelter.

Frog circled Totoro, looking left and right.

Suddenly, he pulled out a recorder from the folds under his belly and started playing it on the spot.

Totoro listened quietly. Not long after, as if by some telepathic connection, it actually took out its beloved flute made from polished bone, put it to its mouth, and began harmonizing.

This duet caught the attention of everyone in the entire Shelter. Everyone came curiously to the living room to watch the spectacle.

Frog raised his recorder, hopping ”tap-tap-tap” on the floor, while Totoro sat quietly, closing its eyes and playing the tune.

Such a scene was exceptionally harmonious.

Zhang Yi pursed his lips and nodded. ”I never thought I had musicians in my house.”

Actually, saying that wasn’t precise enough, because Yang Xinxin, Zhou Ke’er, Yang Siya, and Zhou Haimei all knew how to play instruments.

But when it came to singing, they were somewhat lacking. Yang Siya did have a signature song, but without a sound engineer, it was basically unlistenable.

After the piece finished, Frog’s eyes were full of excitement.

”Ribbit! You play so well!”

Totoro opened its mouth, making a sound similar to a fawn’s call.

Yang Xinxin walked over to Zhang Yi and said to him, ”Totoro being able to play music might mean it’s also a mutated human. Letting it spend more time with this big frog might help trigger its memories.”

Zhang Yi nodded. ”Makes sense. Anyway, even if it’s useless, listening to them play is nice. We practically have a band here now!”

Yang Xinxin giggled. ”And an animal band at that!”

Zhang Yi kept Gao Tianwu and the others, set up another round table in the room, and they all enjoyed a good meal together.

In the afternoon, Zhang Yi had Lu Dahai send a car over to pick up Gao Tianwu and the others and take them to the Dawn Rain Base.

He gave Lu Dahai a few instructions, telling him these were talented people and to make good use of their abilities.

Lu Dahai himself had been promoted by Zhang Yi. With Zhang Yi personally giving the order, of course he agreed readily.

”By the way, have there been any unusual movements along the coastline recently?”

Zhang Yi asked casually.

Hearing this, a hint of hesitation appeared on Lu Dahai’s dark face.

”Hmm? What’s wrong?”

Zhang Yi noticed his hesitation and asked with a smile.

Lu Dahai quickly said, ”Oh, Mr. Zhang, it’s like this. Recently, two of our fishing boats that went out to sea didn’t come back.”

Zhang Yi raised an eyebrow. ”Were they big boats?”

Lu Dahai shook his head. ”No, recently, because we’re guarding against the insect disaster, we don’t dare to go out for large-scale fishing. So they were just some small boats, fishing for some fish and shrimp in the coastal areas to supply daily food.”

Zhang Yi took a deep breath. ”I see. Going out to fish at a time like this always carries risks. You should all continue your operations as usual.”

Lu Dahai nodded in agreement, then took Gao Tianwu and his group to the Dawn Rain Base.
