Ice Age Apocalypse: I Hoard Billions of Supplies

They traveled westward from Aoshan District, wiping out many insect swarms. On their southwestward advance, they would inevitably pass by West Mountain District.

This place was now a stretch of abandoned land. With no human activity, it felt even more desolate.

From this, Gao Tianwu inferred that there might be vast numbers of cockroaches beneath the ground here.

They only intended to clean things up in order.

But unexpectedly, when Frog was conducting a scan here, the normally radiant smile on his face suddenly froze.

Rarely did the lifted corners of his mouth droop, and his expression turned cautious.

Gao Tianwu sensed something was wrong and hurriedly asked, ”What is it?”

”Croak! I sense something unusual here,” Frog said.

Frog’s eyes moved downward, looking at the ground beneath his feet.

His huge foot pressed into the snow, ”Croak! Beneath here, there is a terrifying number of insects. And there are many terrifying big ones!”

He glanced at Gao Tianwu, ”Perhaps we’ve found the cockroaches’ old nest!”

Gao Tianwu froze for a moment, then his face lit up with delight as he said, ”Great! After searching high and low with no luck, we stumble on it without effort! That way, we don’t have to waste energy scouring all of Tianhai City to find them!”

But Frog said to Gao Tianwu, ”Croak! Do you remember what Mr. Zhang told you before he left?”

Gao Tianwu, of course, remembered.

Zhang Yi had warned them that there might be superhumans manipulating the cockroach swarms from behind the scenes.

So Zhang Yi had left Gao Tianwu a communication device.

If any trace of superhuman activity was discovered, they were to notify Zhang Yi immediately to handle it.

After all, if the enemy dared to strike at Zhang Yi from the shadows, their strength could not be underestimated.

Gao Tianwu clenched his fists, suddenly looked up at Frog, and said resolutely:

”No, this problem must be solved by us!”

Frog: ”Croak?”

He spread his giant webbed feet in helplessness, ”Xiao Wu, if we really found the cockroaches’ old nest, then our task is already complete. There’s no need to keep risking ourselves!”

Gao Tianwu shook his head.

”I don’t think that way!”

”If I only find the cockroaches’ old nest, at most I’ll get some rewards from that person.”

”But what I want is far more than that. I want to root myself and my brothers here in Tianhai City! To do that, we must earn Mr. Zhang’s recognition.”

”So I have to seize this opportunity and prove the strength of my brothers and me!”

”Only by proving our value will there be reason for him to accept us.”

”I must consider whether this is my only chance in life!”

Gao Tianwu’s impassioned speech stirred even the previously hesitant Frog.

The brothers behind him had already taken up weapons, prepared for a glorious life-or-death battle.

Frog stared at Gao Tianwu.

Gao Tianwu stared back at Frog.

”Old friend, help me one more time!”

”Croak!”

Frog nodded, then turned and leaped forward.

His left webbed foot touched down, his belly sucked in sharply, then it swelled round and taut.

Then, an even louder croak burst out, instantly echoing across the entire snowfield!

”Croak—”

The croaking pierced the ground, reaching the underground of West Mountain Base, reverberating constantly among the ruins.

All the cockroaches that heard the sound, as if bewitched, began to collectively turn and crawl outward.

The hideous Insect Master outside was stunned, then his face hardened with cruelty.

”Have I... been found?”

Outside West Mountain Base, Frog’s croaking continued to echo.

This was a declaration of war!

They would never fight underground voluntarily, but if the enemy did not come out, Frog’s Bane of the Swarm would first obliterate almost all the mutated cockroaches below.

Gao Tianwu and his brothers looked as stern as steel; they were now prepared for battle, even ready to sacrifice themselves.

To rise above others and gamble on a future, the only stake they could put forward was their lives!

Win the gamble, gain wealth and honor.

Lose, and it would simply be death.

After the apocalypse, many of them, having grown accustomed to life and death, were indeed less afraid of dying.

They only feared dying without meaning.

”Rumble!”

Roaring sounds came from beneath the earth.

Thick layers of snow shattered in sheets, followed by a tide-like surge of cockroaches emerging!

Densely packed, like a sluice releasing long-accumulated floodwater.

This was the cockroaches’ old nest, the Insect Master’s experimental base.

So here were the parental cockroaches—the original fathers and mothers of the mutated cockroaches in Tianhai City.

They were even larger and more terrifying; cockroaches the size of palms crawled everywhere!

Frog lifted his recorder and began to dance and play. With the recorder amplifying him, his croak traveled even farther.

The cockroaches surrounded everyone but did not attack. Instead, as if mesmerized, they lay quietly on the ground listening to Frog’s tune.

”Attack!”

Gao Tianwu struck with both hands, red flames swirling around his body.

He pushed his palms forward, sending head-sized balls of fire into the cockroach masses.

Soon, the cockroach swarm ignited. They were high-protein creatures, easily flammable, and once lit they burned in great swathes.

They were extremely experienced at this method; ordinary cockroaches encountering Frog truly met their natural enemy and had no power to resist to the end.

But Gao Tianwu also knew matters were not so simple.

”If this really is the cockroaches’ old nest, there must be even harder foes to deal with.”

Gao Tianwu cautiously watched the west.

Suddenly, Frog opened his eyes, torn from the trance of music.

He looked in a direction, his gaze sharpening, then signaled Gao Tianwu with a nod.

Gao Tianwu understood and immediately looked over.

It was a snow-covered peak.

Suddenly, an explosive roar came from within the peak, massive chunks of snow avalanched and began to collapse.

Behind the collapsing snow, a large shadow slowly emerged.

Snow whirled through the air, and those shadows gradually approached Gao Tianwu and the others.

As the snowflakes fell away, their silhouettes were revealed.

It was a hideous, monstrous person whose face was distorted and ghastly, as if facial features had been randomly reassembled.

His hunched body was skeletal, yet his eyes showed a sickly yellow-white hue. He looked like a humanoid cockroach, staring fixedly at Gao Tianwu and the others, making Gao Tianwu’s brothers feel a chill.

”Sure enough, Mr. Zhang was right. There really is a mastermind behind this!”
