Moving On from the Tsundere, I Choose the Perfect Sweetheart

Chapter 221: Chapter 220: Demanding an Explanation? Chen Dongmei: Son, Run! Your Aunt Qing Has Stormed Jinda University

Gu Yifan picked up his phone and glanced at it, seeing it was a call from his mom.

He froze for a moment. ’Why would my mom be calling me this early in the morning?’

Full of confusion, Gu Yifan answered the phone.

”Hello?”

”Mom, what’s up?”

he asked into the phone.

At this moment, Su Qinghe, whose head was buried under the covers, also heard Gu Yifan’s words. Knowing the call was from Gu Yifan’s mom, she instantly grew a little nervous.

After all,

Gu Yifan’s parents still didn’t know that the two of them were together.

On the other end of the line, Chen Dongmei didn’t beat around the bush. She got straight to the point, ”Did something happen to that Xiaoning’er at Jinda University?”

”Huh?”

Gu Yifan didn’t process it for a moment.

”What do you mean, ’huh’?”

”You little brat, stop playing dumb. I’m asking you a question!”

Chen Dongmei said irritably, ”Don’t tell me you don’t know Han Ning went to Jinda University too!”

Gu Yifan: ”...”

From that sentence alone, it was obvious his mom had known for a long time that Han Ning was at Jinda University too.

’So it turns out I’m the last one to know!’

Gu Yifan was completely speechless. He pouted and said, ”I only just found out recently that Han Ning is at Jinda University! So you all kept it from me, is that it?”

”You never asked!”

Chen Dongmei gave a perfunctory reply, then said directly, ”Alright, alright, did something happen to Han Ning at Jinda University?”

’Well...’

’It can’t be, can it?’

’How could Mom have found out about last night’s gala so fast?’

Hearing his mom’s question, Gu Yifan didn’t know how to answer for a moment.

”Uh...”

After a moment’s thought, he chose his words carefully and said, ”I wouldn’t exactly say something *happened*...”

Chen Dongmei: ”...”

’Just as I thought!’

’It really does have something to do with this little rascal!’

Indeed.

When she went out to take out the trash this morning, she had run into a hurried Ye Wanqing.

She greeted Ye Wanqing, and after they exchanged a few quick words, Ye Wanqing left.

All she found out was that something seemed to have happened to Han Ning at Jinda University, so she called Gu Yifan to ask about the situation.

She just had a feeling that whatever trouble Han Ning was in was connected to her son.

”Mom?”

”Are you still there?”

When there was no sound from the other end, Gu Yifan asked timidly.

”You little bastard, spit it out! What did you do to Han Ning this time?!”

Chen Dongmei instantly flared up.

Gu Yifan: ”...”

Seeing his mom suddenly explode, Gu Yifan was completely baffled. ”What did *I* do to Han Ning????”

”How should I know what you did!”

”I told you to stop bothering Han Ning! Look what kind of rotten thing you’ve done now!”

Chen Dongmei said angrily, ”I’m telling you, your Aunt Qing is already on her way to Jinda University. If you really did something, no one can save you!”

”Uh...”

Hearing that Ye Wanqing was coming to Jinda University, Gu Yifan was even more baffled.

He asked, bewildered, ”Wait, Mom, when did I bother her again?”

”That’s a question for you!”

Chen Dongmei said huffily.

”Hold on!”

”No, Mom, really, I didn’t bother her!”

Gu Yifan sat up in bed. He collected his thoughts before explaining, ”I didn’t even know she was at Jinda University before. Last night, at the school anniversary gala, she suddenly came on stage during my performance. She gave me flowers and asked me, in front of the whole school, if I had a girlfriend. I rejected her and told her that Qinghe and I are together. Then she ran off crying, and that’s all that happened!”

”I wasn’t the one who started anything, okay!”

”Huh?”

On the other end of the line, Chen Dongmei was taken aback by Gu Yifan’s words.

”W-Wait a second!”

”Did you just say you and Qinghe are together now?”

Chen Dongmei asked tentatively, a little unsure.

”Yeah!”

This time, Gu Yifan didn’t hide it. He said directly, ”We made it official a while ago. She’s my girlfriend now, and your future daughter-in-law, Mom!”

”Oh-ho?”

Hearing Gu Yifan’s definite answer, Chen Dongmei’s delight was palpable, even over the phone.

”Good, good, good!”

”It’s about time!”

”You little brat, you finally did something right for a change!”

she said happily.

Gu Yifan: ”...”

’What does she mean I *finally* did something right?!’

’What kind of mom talks about her son like that?!’

At that moment, Gu Yifan didn’t even want to talk anymore.

Meanwhile, Su Qinghe, still under the covers, had heard the conversation between Gu Yifan and his mom. When she heard Gu Yifan announce that they were officially together, her face instantly turned beet red.

”So, you’re saying you weren’t the one who initiated things with Han Ning!”

Chen Dongmei said after a moment of thought.

”Yeah!”

”If we’re talking about bothering someone, she’s the one bothering me now, okay!”

”Besides, after she ran off crying yesterday, I talked to the school, and she went back to her dorm afterward. She’s fine, isn’t she? What could have possibly happened to her?!”

Gu Yifan said, puzzled.

”Huh?”

Now it was Chen Dongmei’s turn to be a little embarrassed.

”So, Han Ning is actually fine, then?”

”But when I was taking out the trash this morning, I ran into your Aunt Wanqing. She said something had happened to Xiaoning’er, then rushed off. She said she was going to Jinling to pick her up, so I thought you’d done something to her again...”

Hearing this, Gu Yifan knew his mom had jumped to conclusions again.

’And another thing!’

’Why is it that whenever Han Ning has a problem, Mom’s first thought is that I did something wrong?!’

’Damn... this is so unfair! I’m being totally framed!’

Gu Yifan was thoroughly at a loss for words.

”Alright, if you weren’t the one who started it, then it’s fine!”

”Let’s leave it at that!”

Chen Dongmei on the other end of the line said dismissively.

She showed not the slightest hint of guilt for having wrongly accused Gu Yifan just now, but Gu Yifan was already used to it.

’It couldn’t be helped.’

’What could he possibly say?’

’Who could argue? In their house, ”Empress Dowager Chen” had the final say.’

’There was just no comparison, no comparison at all!’

’Stuck with such an unreliable mom, he ultimately had to shoulder everything himself.’ Gu Yifan thought with a sense of helplessness.

”Alright, I’ve got to go.”

”It’s getting late, you should get up now!”

”Don’t just stay in bed because it’s Saturday!”

”It’s fine if you don’t eat, but don’t let Qinghe starve. When you two come back in a while, if Qinghe has lost any weight, I’m holding you responsible!”

Chen Dongmei said in a flat tone, ”Okay, I’m done rambling. I’m going to call your grandma and tell her the Gu Family finally has a daughter-in-law. I have to share the happy news!”

Gu Yifan: ”...”

”When you and Qinghe come back for the National Day holiday, our whole family will go back to our hometown together to see your grandma.”

”That’s the plan!”

Chen Dongmei said, paying him no mind.

After saying that, without waiting for Gu Yifan to speak, she hung up the phone...
