Moving On from the Tsundere, I Choose the Perfect Sweetheart

Chapter 211: Chapter 211: This Counselor Comrade from Japan, Please Calm Down

Chen Wenjing didn’t keep them in suspense. She looked at the class and announced, ”I just received a notice from the university administration. Our 111th anniversary is coming up. To celebrate that, and to welcome the freshmen into the big Jinda University family, the school is planning a grand anniversary celebration.”

”Outstanding upperclassmen from various industries will be returning to attend the anniversary gala. Therefore, the university requires each freshman class to submit one or two acts for the auditions!”

The moment her words fell, the students below the stage began to stir.

’I’ve heard that Jinling University’s anniversary gala is incredibly grand every year!’

’I can’t believe we just finished military training and now we get to be part of the anniversary gala. Sounds pretty sweet!’

Visions of the upperclasswomen’s long, pale legs were already dancing in the boys’ heads...

”However... seeing as the semester has just begun, I don’t really know what talents you all have. So, for these audition sign-ups, are there any students who’d like to volunteer?”

Chen Wenjing pushed up the frames of her glasses on her nose, then looked at the class and said, ”Of course, it’s fine if you don’t want to sign up for an act. After all, this is a matter of personal choice, and our class is quite democratic.”

A murmur rippled through the room.

Hearing this, everyone in the audience started looking at each other, many exchanging uncertain glances.

However, quite a few people seemed eager, apparently quite interested in performing for the anniversary celebration.

Despite this, not a single person stood up to volunteer.

Silence...

For a moment, an inexplicably awkward atmosphere filled the classroom.

Seeing this, Chen Wenjing couldn’t help but frown slightly, though she wasn’t angry.

She looked at the students again and asked, ”No one wants to volunteer?”

’After all, I did just say that participating in the auditions is a personal choice. The class is a democratic place, and we have to respect the students’ personal wishes!’

But after another long moment passed...

Still, no one stood up to volunteer. The few who had been eager to sign up saw that no one else was moving and felt too embarrassed to stand up themselves. No one wanted to be the one to stick their neck out.

At this, Chen Wenjing shook her head helplessly.

’It seems the ’respecting personal choice’ approach isn’t going to work!’

’Sometimes, you just need a little pressure to get things moving!’

she thought to herself.

And so, looking at the students, all of whom had their heads down, she slowly said, ”Since no one is volunteering, I’ll just have to start calling on people!”

Everyone: ”??????”

’What happened to being democratic and respecting everyone’s personal choice?!’

The whole class stared dumbfounded at Chen Wenjing on the stage.

However, Chen Wenjing chose to completely ignore their stares.

Pretending she couldn’t see them, she let her gaze drift to the back corner of the classroom where Gu Yifan was sitting and said slowly, ”Gu Yifan, would you be interested in representing our class in the auditions for the anniversary celebration performance?”

WHOOSH—!

At the sound of the advisor calling Gu Yifan’s name, everyone’s gaze involuntarily snapped in his direction.

But Gu Yifan, who was busy with his head down secretly texting Su Qinghe, hadn’t heard a thing.

Seeing that Gu Yifan wasn’t reacting and still had his head down, Chen Wenjing paused for a second.

The other students were also slightly taken aback when Gu Yifan showed no reaction at all.

Seeing this, Wang Shouyi, who was sitting beside him, quickly reached out, tugged on Gu Yifan’s sleeve, and whispered, ”Brother Fan, Brother Fan...”

”Huh?”

Startled by Wang Shouyi’s call, Gu Yifan didn’t immediately register what was happening.

He slipped his phone into his desk, raised his head to give a confused look to Wang Shouyi beside him, and asked uncertainly, ”Young Master Bi, what’s up?”

”Uh, Brother Fan, the teach—... uh, the advisor is calling you!”

Wang Shouyi whispered.

”Hm?”

Gu Yifan froze for a second. It was only then that he realized every eye in the classroom was on him, and he was completely baffled.

He looked up at the advisor on the stage and asked, ”Teacher Chen, did you just call me?”

”Uh...”

Chen Wenjing shook her head helplessly. From the way Gu Yifan was acting, how could she not know that he had been fiddling around and hadn’t heard a word she’d said?

But she didn’t call him out on it. Instead, she just said again, ”Yes!

Gu Yifan, I would like you to represent our class in the auditions for the anniversary celebration performance. What do you think?”

”??????”

Now it was Gu Yifan’s turn to be completely baffled.

’Represent the class in the auditions for the anniversary celebration performance??’

’No way!’

’I’m not interested in that stuff at all!’

”Teacher Chen, I—”

Gu Yifan was about to refuse without a moment’s hesitation, but he was ruthlessly cut off by Chen Wenjing.

She looked at Gu Yifan and said slowly, ”Gu Yifan, I happen to have heard that back in high school, you used to perform on the street... Hm, you wouldn’t want other people to find out about that, would you?”

”Er...”

’Why does that line sound so familiar???’

Suddenly, it hit Gu Yifan!

He shot a strange look at his advisor, who was watching him from the stage with a teasing expression, and couldn’t help but shiver.

’Uh...’

’This advisor is acting like she’s straight out of a Japanese manga! Please, calm down, comrade!’

But still!

He was extremely curious. How did his advisor know about that?

It happened so long ago!

He was pretty sure he’d never told anyone about it!

What Gu Yifan didn’t know was that because of his unique status, the first-year Financial Management class was receiving extra attention from the university. Consequently, Chen Wenjing had specifically looked up his student file and records and gone through them.

Of course, the matter was only mentioned in passing in his file, but Chen Wenjing had done some searching online and had actually managed to find the video of Gu Yifan’s performance from back then!

Although the online video was only a partial clip, to be fair, after hearing Gu Yifan sing, she also felt it was a real shame he didn’t become a singer.

But then she thought about it and felt relieved. After all, Gu Yifan’s academic results were just as incredible!

If he were to give up his studies to become a singer, it would probably be a loss for the country.

After all, a talent who could get a perfect score on the college entrance exam could probably make significant contributions to the country if he went down the path of scientific research.

This was also why, as soon as Gu Yifan arrived at the university, the administration had arranged for a highly respected, veteran professor to mentor him. Although they told him it was to pave the way for him to be directly admitted into a graduate program, they definitely also had the intention of specially cultivating him for a career in research.

Of course!

The final choice would naturally be up to Gu Yifan himself.

After hesitating for a moment, Gu Yifan still had no intention of participating in that blasted anniversary gala performance, so he opened his mouth to say, ”Teacher Chen, I...”
