The Lovely Heiress Is Actually A God Beast

Capítulo 1169: Chapter 1169: A Little Horn (Part 23)

Her Highness the Eldest Princess was surprised, “Someone?”

Back when she first arrived at the Border Town, she had tried to arrange a match for her Little Palace Maid, wanting her to find a suitable Gentleman so she wouldn’t waste her youth following her.

Who would have thought that after seven years, with so many fine young men in the military camp, she didn’t fancy any of them.

And now, unexpectedly, there was someone!

“Someone from the camp?” Her Highness the Eldest Princess asked further.

The Little Palace Maid bashfully replied, “No…”

“Tell the truth!” Her Highness the Eldest Princess’s expression became slightly serious, afraid her Little Palace Maid would be foolishly deceived by someone.

Clearly always in the military camp, how could her heart be swayed by someone outside the camp?

The Little Palace Maid blushed and spoke softly.

As it turns out, the Gentleman she fancied wasn’t a soldier in the camp, but closely related; he was a merchant supplying the camp with cotton blankets and clothing.

Once on a particularly rainy day, all the delivered blankets were soaked, and the vast shipment was refused, leaving the merchant disheartened and on the verge of collapse.

The Little Palace Maid felt sorry for him, so she suggested accepting the goods first, paying half the money, and giving the other half after drying and confirming the weights.

The merchant was immensely grateful, as even half the money was enough for him to go back and seek medical treatment for someone.

He was a villager from a nearby village, originally a scholar, but terribly unlucky. He fell ill before the imperial exams each time, hence failing year after year until he gave up. Despite ten years of hard study, he was not skilled in farming, resulting in poor harvests; thus, he started a business buying local cotton and making clothing and blankets. This time he thought of doing business with the military camp because his elderly mother fell ill and needed expensive medicine to stay alive, so he sold in bulk to the camp, but the profits weren’t much.

Lately, the shipment was accepted, and he received the remaining silver. To thank the Little Palace Maid, he found some interesting trinkets to deliver, and every time he came to make a delivery, he would privately bring some little gifts for her, sparking feelings between the two of them over time.

“Does he have diarrhea every time before the exams?” Lady Wan asked.

The Little Palace Maid nodded, “He said that when he gets nervous, his stomach becomes upset.”

Lady Wan’s husband was once a scholar, so she naturally knew that having a major issue like that in the examination hall would mark one’s paper badly, and examiners would likely ignore it.

“He really is unlucky.”

The Little Palace Maid nodded, “Yes, he’s famously unlucky. It’s not just the exams; even when delivering to the camp, he often encounters various mishaps.”

Lady Wan said, “He should pray to the bodhisattva.”

The Little Palace Maid sighed, “He hasn’t stopped praying.”

Lady Wan asked, “With all this, you don’t mind?”

The Little Palace Maid shyly replied, “He’s actually doing quite well now; though unexpected things happen during deliveries, nothing major has occurred. I think it’s okay. I like him, so I don’t mind…”

Lady Wan said, “Looks like you really like him. Back then, many people disliked me for being strong, but my husband didn’t mind.”

The Little Palace Maid giggled, “Exactly! Actually, he liked me first, hehe…”

Her Highness the Eldest Princess remained silent, listening to their conversation, and began to ponder.

Is this what it’s like to like someone?

Even if the other person has many flaws, they don’t seem to be an issue…

Her Highness the Eldest Princess’s gaze unconsciously fell on the Flying Eagle’s talons in her hand, where a message tube was attached; it had been a long time since she last checked it.

Today, she felt a curiosity to see what kind of mushy words that annoying fellow wrote again.
