Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game

Fastening each button carefully, her movements were slow, as if she were performing a solemn and sacred task.

”No.”

A slight smile crossed her lips. Avery Jane fastened the last button of her blazer and looked at herself in the mirror. Black and white contrasted, appearing as pure as an ink painting.

She silently prayed, hoping her father would give her all the courage and inspiration.

Sometimes, it’s not about wanting to do something; it’s as if there’s a massive force behind all events, pushing you forward, orchestrating things to happen one after the other, making her trapped in between, rising and falling, unable to free herself.

This involuntarily reminded her of the times next to Joshua Hughes. With him, no matter what happened, she never felt afraid. This feeling never existed even during the years she dated Wenyard Cooper. In those days, despite him showering her with love, she lived cautiously, like walking on thin ice. She feared his family wouldn’t like her, feared she would bring trouble to him, feared any sudden occurrences.

But Joshua was different. Beside him, even though she had lost her memory, she believed wholeheartedly that with him there was nothing to fear or worry about. He seemed like an unshakable mountain, immovable, bringing her safety with every breath. Now? Where is he? Now she’s about to be pushed by fate into an unknown and terrifying territory. Suddenly, without reason, she thought of him, imagining him as a reliable support behind her...

Taking a deep breath, she stepped into the competition venue.

To ensure the fairness of the competition, it was not held in any casino owned by Las Vegas’s Double Geogre.

The hotel’s largest banquet hall was already set up with fifty tables, neatly arranged there, each table accompanied by a professionally dressed dealer. They were responsible for dealing cards and witnessing the outcome of the gambling rounds.

Everyone received a number, then paired through a computer draw. Avery Jane closed her eyes, silently praying she wouldn’t encounter Tate Hunter in the first round. If they met in the first round, one of them would be eliminated before the finals. She couldn’t make any requests to Tate Hunter in the finals. This gambling event looked like a competition on the surface, but more people were placing bets on the sidelines. From now on, the sidelines were starting to accept bets, just like a football pool, where they would stake huge bets on their favored contestant. This competition had a rule that those who reached the finals had to sign a life-and-death contract. Although it’s just a ceremony now, very few people gamble with their lives anymore. But if the winner makes a request, it cannot be refused. That’s what thrills people about this competition. Everyone is after the huge prize money and the title of Gambling King. In reality, they are merely toys for those betting on the sidelines. In this competition, they may think they are the protagonists, but the largest betting companies behind the scenes worldwide are the real winners. Bets placed within these three days will exceed a billion US Dollars, and everyone is waiting for the finals day.

Soon, someone angrily tore off their number badge and walked away from the gambling table. The first day’s competition proceeded quickly; everyone confidently believed their gambling skills and luck were the best, yet when faced with someone better, they realized their hundred thousand US Dollar entry fee was paid in vain, because there’s always someone stronger.

Avery Jane and Edward Parker exchanged a casual glance across the distant tables. They both had smoothly advanced to the second round, the wheel stage. Perhaps there were too many people, so initially, Avery Jane did not attract much attention. But once noticed, she sparked tension among the attendees. Las Vegas’s Tiger Geogre’s funeral is still talked about today because Avery Jane did things that many men dared not do that day, giving Big Head Geogre no face at all. Despite being Joshua Hughes’s wife, this was Las Vegas after all. Now everyone’s attention was focused on three people: Tate Hunter, Edward Parker, and Avery Jane. The current betting favorite on the sidelines was naturally Tate Hunter, although some bets were also placed on Edward Parker. A woman had suddenly emerged onto the scene with a very special identity, raising questions about her purpose.
