Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game

The slender and white fingers were as beautiful as blossoms on a branch. The small piece of paper was placed on her fingers, spinning deftly, the tiny card turning so quickly like a magic trick that it was hard to see, eyes gleaming with intense light. Woman, you cannot be weak, because there is too much responsibility on your shoulders. You have to be a good sister, a good friend, a good daughter, you must wash away the blood feud and shame for your parents........

The eyes glistened like the light of the most beautiful gems shining. No one can do something like that and still live a life of debauchery freely, no one can.

The silent night passed, and Beckett Wright, living downstairs, had no idea what kind of ups and downs Avery Jane experienced on such a night.

In the morning living room, Avery Jane stood quietly by the stove, simmering red date millet porridge over a low flame, while she also made fragrant, tender egg pancakes. Her eyes, like water, still captivating but holding something different, were mysterious, as if a vortex drew people in; looking a few more times seemed like one could never escape, as if even the soul would be drawn away.

”Avery, what are you doing, why aren’t you resting properly?” He got up early because every day he thought about preparing different breakfasts for Avery, her appetite had always been poor, probably she just ate to save his face reluctantly. But today she actually got up early to make breakfast herself?

”Nothing, I’ve been lying down for many days, and my body feels much better now.” Avery turned back with a charming smile, as enchanting as cherry blossoms bloom under the spring breeze.

”Come, taste my cooking.” Avery put cooked bacon inside the thinly spread egg pancake along with some crisp cucumber strips, rolled it up, and placed it on the table on a plate. The cooked red date porridge was served in a white porcelain bowl, the thick, golden porridge with a few sweet red dates was particularly tempting.

”Beckett, thank you so much for taking care of me these past few days. Without you, I really wouldn’t know what to do.......” Bowing her head, her long eyelashes trembled slightly, and Beckett’s heart trembled with that, he probably knew what she wanted to say, but he was so reluctant yet knew he couldn’t keep her. After all, they weren’t anything more than friends, maybe close friends but always less than lovers.

”You’re not going to stay a couple more days to rest?” Beckett’s voice remained gentle, but if you listened carefully, you could hear a faint trace of disappointment. ”I’ve rested enough.” Avery ate the millet porridge bite by bite, eating with great concentration; she must recover quickly because she had such important matters waiting for her to attend to.

”What about the work situation, have you thought it over?” Beckett still held onto a bit of hope in his heart, wishing Avery would agree to be his personal assistant, that way they could meet openly every day, with no need for any excuses.

”I’m sorry, Beckett. This is actually the best job for me, but now I have very important things to do, so I can’t say yes to you.” Avery, steeling her heart, still refused Beckett. What she needed to do now was too dangerous; she couldn’t involve any caring friends, nor did she want them to worry.

”Alright, Avery. Go do what you love, but remember, I will always be behind you. Just turn back, and you can see me......” He was such a gentle man, if she hadn’t met Joshua Hughes, if she had met him first, how great that would be? If she hadn’t met that man, how better things might have been?

The long-missed streets, bustling with people and traffic. Avery walked slowly, watching everything, both strangers and yet familiar; in just a few days, her life seemed a lifetime ago.

”Sister, where are you? I’ll pick you up.” Eliza Bell was driving, they had made plans to meet today, so she called Avery early.

”I just left Beckett Wright’s home.” Eliza’s voice was lovely, instantly lifting one’s spirits, but how about herself? She found her heart starting to grow old, maybe experiencing too much, leaving her a little numb and a bit disoriented.

”Oh, then wait for me at the outdoor café by the apartments, I’ll be there in fifteen minutes.” Eliza looked at the document folder beside her, inside were two files, one was 8% of Hughes Clan’s equity, and the other was the 8% that Joshua Hughes had Julian Carter deliver.

After reading the recent news, she already knew the original 8% shares were no longer of much value, and now the most important was the 8% of the new company Joshua Hughes established, which she could foretell was an incalculable astronomical figure.

He probably knew early on that she was Luke Harringtons’ daughter, so his odd actions in Las Vegas weren’t hard to explain; did he leave Big Head George for her to deal with personally?

When this man’s name surfaced in her mind, it always pierced like a needle...
