Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game

Joshua Hughes could hardly believe it. His self-control had deteriorated to such an extent that, in just ten minutes, this little spirit had extracted his soul, confessing everything without reservation. Where did she learn these tricks? This could be lethal to a man. Who else had she danced like this with, except him?

”Let me go, Avery...” His voice was low and filled with desire. He needed to love her without barriers; he had yearned for this day until it hurt.

”Dream on, Joshua Hughes. Stop being so presumptuous. I will never forgive you. Today, you yourself asked me to have fun with you. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Goodbye. No, it should be ’never see you again.’” Avery Jane wrapped herself in his suit, nimbly leaping off the couch like a little deer, opened the door, and ran out.

”Your boss lacks stamina; now his legs are too weak to walk. You should check on him.” The bodyguard watched Avery Jane rush out, barefoot, looking like a little lunatic wrapped in a suit, hair in disarray, and immediately stormed into the room.

The room was still filled with the thick scent of passion — **and ambiguity. ”Go follow her, quickly.”

Joshua Hughes’s face was ashen, enduring the pain in his heart along with the near-bursting rage in his lungs. What did she say? She would never forgive him, and said she didn’t want to see him. Did she really think that?

The petite body, wrapped in a man’s suit, climbed into Eliza Bell’s car from the back door. Avery Jane gasped for breath; today had been full of surprises. She still felt a bit unnerved.

”Sister, what happened? Did you meet a tiger? Scared you this much? Your face is nearly white.” Eliza Bell glanced at Avery Jane’s somewhat pale face while driving. Her elder sister was a bit timid. What to do? Time was running out, and relying solely on luck and skill wasn’t enough for certainty of winning.

Encountered a tiger? That man was far scarier than a tiger. At most, a tiger devoured people, but he didn’t do that; he only took people’s hearts...

”Eliza, I’m still a bit shaky. It’s hard doing such things with men.” Avery Jane lowered her head. Despite her loathing for Joshua Hughes, because it was him, someone so familiar, it wasn’t as embarrassing or hard to do those things. And it proved effective. A man as strong-willed as Joshua Hughes could collapse instantly. But if it wasn’t him, she probably couldn’t do it.

”There’s no time, sister. We can only take a risk now. I’ve booked plane tickets for Las Vegas the day after tomorrow. We need to get familiar there. This time, Vincent Hunter wants to make his son the new Gambling King of Las Vegas. He will exhaust every means to ensure his son wins. I’ve paid the $100,000 US Dollar registration fee. There are 100 participants now, and the quota is full. Two by two, whoever wins the final can propose any condition they want. Sister, this is our first step for revenge. What worries me is if you make it to the finals, Vincent Hunter will certainly guard against you. At that time, we’ll be in danger, or we might get killed before we even make it to the finals.” Eliza shivered at the thought. Over the years, Vincent Hunter had grown increasingly powerful, not above committing unspeakable acts in the shadows, so they were indeed in some danger.

”Going to Las Vegas first is fine. I need to find someone who will help us and ensure our safety there.” Avery Jane tightened the suit around her. It bore his scent, a faint musk mingled with tobacco, and the warmth of a mature man, seemingly still present. Perhaps this would be their last meeting because nobody knew what might happen in Las Vegas. Even if she perished there, she wouldn’t regret it.

In this life, she had Wenyard Cooper’s fervent, selfless love, and though her past with this terrible man was filled with hatred, she also deeply loved. Her life was devoid of regrets. If only she could avenge her enemy, it would be immensely satisfying...

Joshua Hughes coldly donned the trousers Julian Carter had brought over. ”Boss, I heard your stamina’s been lacking lately, can’t even stand on your legs?”

Julian Carter glanced meaningfully at Joshua Hughes’s well-formed legs encased in suit pants, clicking his tongue and shaking his head. Receiving a deadly glare, he quickly lowered his head. Mocking the boss and exposing his weakness wasn’t a good assistant’s deed, yet he wanted to celebrate his boss’s supposed weakness. At last, he found something he did better. Heard it only lasted ten minutes, pants still on. Julian, head lowered, attempted a secretive laugh. It had been so long, he nearly forgot how to laugh. Only chuckling inwardly.

”Miss Jane exited through the back door. We’ve asked the manager here. It’s her first day. She only mentioned staying a few days.” Joshua Hughes breathed a sigh of relief, glad it was her first day; otherwise, he might’ve choked to death. But why did she come? What exactly was she planning? Playing with men? Earning money? He knew it was just her joke, just to irk him. But what was she really thinking?

His phone rang at this moment. Joshua Hughes picked up the phone; his long fingers swiped across the screen. ”Young Master Hughes, did you agree to Madam registering for the Las Vegas Gambling King contest? It’s obviously Big Head George drumming up publicity for his son, and they’ll certainly find ways to win. Still, it’s best to advise Young Madam to be cautious.” Edward Parker’s call shook Joshua Hughes internally. Why did Avery Jane want to go to Las Vegas to compete? But Edward Parker daring to call meant some reliable intel, at least the fact she registered, was true.

”I know. Let her play if she enjoys it. No problem; if they end up dead, it’s on me.” Joshua Hughes’s deep voice carried a convincing pull, making Edward Parker inexplicably excited over the phone. If Joshua Hughes got involved, then it would be highly fascinating. Blood debts beget blood, unchanged from ancient times.

Joshua Hughes hung up the phone, turned to Julian Carter, saying, ”From now until two weeks later, check every flight to Las Vegas or Sydney for me. I want to know by tonight which flight Avery Jane took.” Earlier a joke, Julian Carter’s face now serious and stern as he turned to leave — all flights had to be thoroughly checked.

What did she plan to do? Had she discovered something? Did she want revenge? Did she want the man’s attention before ending Vincent Hunter’s life? Joshua Hughes couldn’t suppress the anger in his heart. If that was the case, he should have ended Big Head George in Las Vegas earlier. He hadn’t killed him because, should Avery Jane learn her lineage one day, she’d want to do it herself. He didn’t want any regrets in her life. But using seduction for revenge was absolutely impossible. Even if he had to annihilate the Hunter Family, he wouldn’t allow Vincent Hunter a glance at Avery Jane...

Setting foot on Las Vegas soil again, everything has changed. She’d been to Las Vegas twice; perhaps she could say she once lived there a while, back when she was just a little embryo. Sometimes she thought her resilience astonishing, surviving like this wasn’t hard to understand why her mother had a tough time with childbirth or the pregnancy’s hardships, not just physically but mentally. That shame, extreme anger, and deep love without facing the world must have tormented her until delivering her, finally loosening the tension within and finding her release. Later, accompanying Joshua Hughes to Las Vegas was another thrilling experience, the last time he tricked her here alone to choose a woman suitable in status for him. Truly, this place had a connection with her...

Walking along the streets of Las Vegas, she searched for any traces left by her parents. Twenty years have seen enormous change; this was no longer Las Vegas from over two decades ago. But the paths they had walked together, did her parents tread them too? She truly disliked living a life harboring hatred, but the seed of vengeance was planted. Retribution must come for the wicked; she must seek justice for her mother. She even imagined if not for her presence in the womb, her mother might have ended it all sooner.

Reaching the entrance of the casino where she won money the first time, she had a crucial matter today: to find Edward Parker because they shared a common enemy.

Edward Parker, hearing the report of Miss Jane’s visit, immediately descended to personally greet her. Joshua Hughes had explicitly instructed on the phone not to let her know they’d spoken. As for why, he didn’t probe further — it was Joshua Hughes’s affair, probably a couple’s quarrel. From what he gathered, Joshua Hughes valued this woman greatly, so naturally, he had to host her carefully.

”Miss Jane, we meet again.” Edward Parker led Avery Jane into the elevator, ornately adorned in gold with crystal glass on all sides, the elevator ascended slowly to the third floor, where his office was located.
