Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game

Joshua Hughes is truly an enigma. He would lift her up, enabling her to secure several major brand endorsements in just a matter of days.

She had more appearances than top models, and he was passionate in bed, yet he seldom spoke, maintaining a cold and distant demeanor.

The rumors portrayed Joshua Hughes as a ruthless and icy figure, but for him to treat her this way, it must mean something special in her heart. The young model briskly kept up with Joshua Hughes as they walked out, never forgetting to display her best angles for the paparazzi.

In the underground parking lot, Joshua Hughes’s bodyguard had already brought a car around. Joshua said coldly, ”Take her home,” as he walked to his own car without looking back, quickly started the engine, and sped away like an arrow released from the string.

His large hand gripped the steering wheel tightly, his knuckles turning white, almost crushing it. In his deep eyes, intense pain surged—what happened to her? Did she fall? He couldn’t go and hold her now, at this critical moment, being with him was extremely dangerous. He even suspected that the ambush he faced years ago was orchestrated by Conny Hughes in collusion with the Vietnam Locale. Therefore, his most cherished person could become his vulnerability, and he refused to let her take any risks. Thus, he placed another woman in the public eye to protect her. He wanted to provide her with the best life once the storm had settled; right now she absolutely couldn’t follow him into danger.

In the hospital, the emergency room was bustling with people coming and going. Beckett Wright anxiously stood outside. Her condition was poor; the car’s white seat was stained with a faint trace of red. She was in so much pain she almost curled up like a wounded little beast, even her gaze was sorrowful.

”Are you her husband? Nowadays young people are so careless. How can someone who is pregnant be so inattentive? Wearing high heels—is work more important or the child? Do you even want this child? You look like you’re well-off, how can you let a pregnant woman be malnourished? It’s very dangerous now. I’ve given her an injection; if you want the child, from now on don’t let her work, let her rest in bed more and eat nutritious food. If you don’t want the child, make a decision soon, the adult won’t suffer much,” the gynecologist in the emergency room said while filling out the medical report. Nowadays people are hard to understand, some couples desperately want children but due to stress or physical issues, they can’t conceive. With a pair as talented and good-looking as this, the child would certainly be beautiful, yet they don’t cherish it properly.

”Do you want the child or not?” The doctor asked loudly upon seeing no response from the silent person nearby.

”Of course we want it,” Beckett nodded. He knew Avery Jane, such a soft-hearted girl, couldn’t possibly bring herself to kill her own child. She would keep the child, right?

:”Then you must keep her in a good mood to help sustain the pregnancy. Her threatened miscarriage wasn’t just because she fell; there were early signs. So be especially careful, okay? But even if you want the child, it might not survive; her condition isn’t too stable...” The doctor sighed with relief, even though it’s common to see abortions happening in the hospital, some girls treat it like routine; as a responsible doctor, it’s definitely better that such things occur rarely.

Beckett asked about precautions and then pushed open the door to enter the emergency room ward. On the small bed, she lay quietly, her black crystal-like eyes glinted with a clear light.

:”Avery, let’s go home. Let’s go to my place first; the doctor said you need to lie down more. You live so far away and there’s no one to care for you.” Beckett’s warm voice spoke slowly, her small hand like a delicate white orchid, yet he dared not hold it. When emotions run deep, they create fear; he always approached her with caution. :”I can’t afford this child, I’m barely managing to support myself now. I’m really such a failure, such a failure.......” Avery murmured softly, her hand stroked her still-flat abdomen, and tears fell like broken strings of pearls, one after another.
