Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game

:”What can I do to help you then?” What does she want him to help her with?

:”I want absolute fairness in the gambling game. I want to openly win a game against him.” Avery Jane’s downcast eyes revealed no expression; only her long eyelashes fluttered gently like a butterfly resting by a flower stream.

:”There’s absolutely no way to have complete fairness. His son is gradually taking over the casino’s affairs, and he’ll pave every way for him, including this tournament. You can only compete on who can cheat faster, who won’t get caught, who can concentrate better. Since everyone is cheating, if you win, it counts as fair. Understand?” Talking about complete fairness in a casino, perhaps Avery Jane really has been protected too well by men like Joshua Hughes, hence her naiveté.

:”What I can do for you is, I’ll join the competition too, I’ll block all the opponents for you, and send you to the finals so you can resolve it with him personally. But Tate Hunter has good gambling skills, you may not win. If he sets terms that you absolutely can’t accept, you’ll have to accept them regardless. Can you handle that?” Tate Hunter is somewhat known to him, and the woman before him has a fatal attraction to any man. To put it plainly, if given the chance, any man would want to sleep with her. Would she repeat her mother’s mistakes?

:”I understand what you’re saying, thank you. But how do I cheat? How do I switch cards?” Avery Jane understood his words. Since everyone will cheat, it’s just up to whose technique is superior.

:”You don’t know how to gamble? Not at all?” Edward Parker felt his mind go blank, a bit stunned. She doesn’t even play cards, how could she win?

:”I don’t gamble, but I always win.” Avery Jane spoke truthfully. During those two months, she and Eliza Bell secretly played a bit at underground casinos, yet she hadn’t lost a single game. Whether it’s luck or something else, she just could sense the quality of the cards, as if she could see through to the hole cards. Is this genetic or hereditary? So when the cards were bad, she wouldn’t bet, and when she felt the cards were good, she’d double the stakes, so she always won.

This statement was even more baffling than her previous one, so he picked up a deck of cards to play two rounds with her.

He could only say that some people truly have a natural talent for gambling, and Avery Jane was one of them. ”Alright, Miss Jane, let me teach you how to cheat now.” Perhaps Heaven saw how much havoc Big Head George had wreaked, thus gifting such an apparently harmless and utterly pure woman with genius gambling skills. Sometimes such things can’t be explained; perhaps during the gamble, Luke Harringtons would inspire his daughter, hence her confidence and vigor.

Her fingers were extremely agile, changing cards with such speed that even he couldn’t see clearly. Could this be talent as well?

:”This isn’t inborn. Since childhood, my father had me spinning all sorts of things between my fingers.” Avery Jane perceived his doubt and responded lightly, having already changed several suits of cards on her fingers. She played cards beautifully, cleanly and swiftly, her gaze shimmering brilliantly like the most dazzling gemstone...

Edward Parker watched Avery Jane’s departing figure. She was a peculiar woman, seemingly pure like a clear pool, yet able to masterfully manipulate a deck of cards. Every card in her hand was like an obedient child; whatever suit she desired, she could find with utmost precision. She was also an excellent student, quickly comprehending the essence of gambling. Las Vegas’s smoke-free war seemed destined to be extraordinarily intense...

He picked up the phone, for though she was adept at playing, she still needed someone to support her, to win more smoothly. While he could fill this role, someone was better suited for it, as that person was a natural competitor and a born taker. Only such a fierce character could contend with Big Head George or even outweigh him.

Joshua Hughes was not surprised to receive Edward Parker’s call; he knew he’d be contacted again. His eyes were mysteriously sorrowful and lonely like the most solitary star on a dark night. His sharp features carried an unstoppable aura; as the phone neared his ear, his heart would gently tremble—not because of the caller, but each piece of news about Avery Jane brought him agitation and disarray.

”Young Master Hughes, Young Madam came to see me today. She desires an absolutely fair competition, but I’ve already informed her honestly that there’s no such thing in gambling. Now, what I can do is to participate in the tournament as well. First, to divert others’ attention, secondly, I can block numerous opponents for her until the finals, where I’ll concede and directly send her into the finals. Actually, it’s not that I’ll lose to her, but rather that she truly will win over me; she’s the most talented one in recent years. I believe this three-day tournament will be incredibly exciting, just whether her body can handle it? After all, she’s a woman.” Edward Parker truthfully conveyed over the phone.

The tournament involved a hundred participants, divided into fifty tables, two players per table, each playing three rounds, winning two out of three. Then advancing rules were adopted, with fifty more participants continuing until twenty-five remained. With subsequent groupings, only two participants would eventually enter the finals on the third day—the final match that would make Las Vegas exceedingly thrilling. Such a round-robin format demands tremendous mental effort and immense pressure, which usually even men find overwhelming. Let alone a delicate woman...
