Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game

The sheriff didn’t know that within the few hours he was entangled with Joshua Hughes, so much had happened.

He just watched as Joshua Hughes meticulously penned his surname on the confession statement, and with each stroke, it seemed as though he could already see that five million US Dollars flying into his pocket.

The door suddenly swung open without warning.

”Sheriff, someone has come to bail Joshua Hughes out.” The policeman who entered was sweating on his forehead, he had run urgently and was still catching his breath.

The tone from above was very stern, demanding that they process the bail immediately.

”How could it be possible? He’s charged with murder, with more than three eyewitnesses able to testify.” The sheriff looked at the paper with the surname Hughes written on it, he was just one step away.

Joshua Hughes’ thin lips carried a smile that was unreadable, like a devil in the night.

His eyes were filled with ruthlessness and sharpness, watching the sheriff’s bewildered expression, he was curious to see how he would clean up the mess.

But who exactly bailed him out, he really couldn’t figure out.

Even if Julian Carter heard about it on the phone, and took the nearest flight, it would be hours later; who else in Las Vegas would come to bail him out?

”Sheriff, I heard it was Sir Liam Hamilton who bailed him out; he provided the guarantee at headquarters.” The young policeman said quietly, but loud enough for both people in the room to hear.

The sheriff’s face began to take on a heavy and anxious expression.

How did things end up this way?

If Joshua Hughes was released, trying to get him back to the police station would be extremely difficult.

”Even if I sign my name, what can you do to me? Do you think this hastily fabricated confession can trap me in Las Vegas?” Joshua Hughes laughed arrogantly, waved his big hand, and signed his name on the confession.

Just as he had written Hughes, he was interrupted and then went on to write Joshua, the two characters boldly and dominantly, looking very conspicuous in the blank space.

The sheriff looked at Joshua Hughes in disbelief; he had never seen someone so brazen, even knowing he could be bailed out, yet still voluntarily signing his name on the confession — was he insane?

Joshua Hughes smiled coldly at him, a smile that made his heart to lose its composure.

Just at that moment, the sheriff’s phone rang.

His hand still held Joshua Hughes’s confession, while the other hand picked up the call.

His wife, timid and obedient, wouldn’t call him at work unless it was something urgent, ”An incident happened, our son in the United States is in trouble, you need to come back immediately. Outside school, someone shot through his left knee with a gun, what should we do?”

As soon as he heard this, cold sweats broke out all over him, penetrating through the stiff and upright police uniform, his gaze fell upon the bold three characters of Joshua Hughes on the confession.

He now understood that Joshua Hughes’s talk in the hotel of exterminating the family wasn’t just idle threats.

Yet he had been under surveillance the whole time, with no opportunity or time to contact the outside world, how could he send someone abroad to do something so horrific to his only son?

Was he overthinking it?

”This confession cannot convict me of any crime, Sheriff has money you can take, but some money you absolutely cannot take. Taking money you shouldn’t is like holding a blade, you’ll cut yourself until you’re bloody.” Joshua Hughes’s eyes were dark as ink, unable to disperse, like a terrifying black hole that absorbs people, unable to escape.

The atmosphere in the room became extremely tense, like a balloon about to burst.

”The Commissioner is already here with Sir Hamilton, they should arrive shortly, what to do?” The young policeman looked panicked, this man indeed is crazy; although someone is here to bail him out, yet he still signed the confession himself.

”Joshua Hughes, was it you who did it, was it?” The sheriff’s eyes had turned red with urgency, his son studying in the United States, so far away, a place beyond his reach, unable to protect him, unaware of what might happen next?

”What are you talking about sheriff, I don’t understand a word you’re saying.” Joshua Hughes shrugged, leaning back in the chair, his robust body slouched back, but even in a lazy posture, couldn’t conceal his natural regal domineering aura.

The sheriff glared at him fiercely, like a beast seeing his child in danger, every alert heightened, his voice hoarse, ”Did you send someone to hurt my son?”

”Perhaps you’ve done too much evil and that’s why your son met with such misfortune, I am a legitimate businessman, how could I do such a thing?” Joshua Hughes looked as if playing a cat-and-mouse game, watching the sheriff break into cold sweat, daring to provoke him, all evil consequences he must bear.

”What exactly do you want?” The sheriff heard the organized chant outside, the sound of leather shoes stepping on the ground.

The police commissioner had arrived.

He gritted his teeth, holding the confession signed by Joshua Hughes, opened the interrogation room door, and saluted the two approaching individuals.

”What on earth happened, why wasn’t this reported before the operation?” The police commissioner was shocked when he heard the news and was almost unable to sit still.

Sir Liam Hamilton had just arrived at the police station requesting to bail out Joshua Hughes, so they hurried over.

This reckless thing, what a big mess he has stirred up.

”Commissioner, Joshua Hughes has confessed how he killed George Parker, this is his confession.” Now, regardless, this confession is finally in hand, it can at least allow him to catch his breath.

This confession can prove he didn’t arrest arbitrarily, after all, someone as prominent as Joshua Hughes would flee immediately if not held, it must let the commissioner see he did it out of desperation.

Standing behind the commissioner was an elderly gentleman with gray hair wearing a formal hat, skinny but spirited.

His gaze was clear, scrutinizing Joshua Hughes up and down.

”Being bailed out with the effort of Sir Hamilton, it truly is a great honor,” Joshua Hughes stood before Liam Hamilton, extending his hand.

This gentleman deserved respect, but he had little ties with him, surprisingly he came to bail him out, willingly was a bit shocking.

”The young are remarkable.” The extending hand was large, with sharp and clear palm lines, a long wisdom line almost stretched across the whole palm.

However, how could someone so full of wisdom make such a low-level mistake?

Before anyone bailed him out, before any legal team arrived, he had signed the confession, could it be unlike Joshua Hughes’s style or is there another hidden agenda?

The police commissioner quickly examined the confession carefully.

But the more he read, the more it felt wrong, this confession was done seamlessly, from the motive for murder, to the time, to the method, all were explained in detail.

Considering who Joshua Hughes was, if he wanted Tiger Geogre dead, he wouldn’t have to do it himself, and more so, if he really wanted to kill, he wouldn’t leave such obvious slips for others to find.

Yet he just stated that, signed, what exactly does he want?

Does he understand this confession is enough to keep him in Las Vegas prison for many years?

This man is an enigma, what could be his motive?

”Sir Hamilton, with this confession, Mr. Hughes cannot be bailed out, we now need to proceed with the custody pending court trial.” The police commissioner showed a troubled face, there really was an issue.

During this period, the matter in Las Vegas surely would spread like wildfire.

”Why doesn’t the commissioner ask how this confession came about, was it forced?” Joshua Hughes sneered lightly, his eyes like sharpest swords piercing at the sheriff.

”Sheriff Andrew, please explain how this confession came to be?” The police commissioner said sternly, his eyes staring at Andrew’s sweating head, simmering with anger.

Since Joshua Hughes said so, this confession surely wasn’t straightforward.

Moreover, he really didn’t want to be enemies with Joshua Hughes, as he’s a tough bone to chew.

However, the world surely has many who prioritize money over lives, like this Andrew.

”He confessed voluntarily, we haven’t used any coercive means, Commissioner please inspect carefully, there are no injuries on his body, how could we dare to torture Mr. Hughes?” The sheriff glanced uneasily at Joshua Hughes, his demeanor composed, not at all like someone who just signed, burdened with murder charges.

Joshua Hughes’s long fingers fiddled with his suit button, the letter ”H” on it emitting a cold and proud light, just like its owner...
