Apocalypse Escape: Day One of Survival

Cheng Zihao’s face instantly flushed red with anger as he pointed a finger at Xie Ning. ”Miss, you’ve gone too far!”

Xie Ning’s gaze turned sharp as she shot her hand out and seized the man’s wrist.

An immense force shot through her grip. The pain was so intense that Cheng Zihao’s pupils dilated, and cold sweat broke out across his entire head.

Xie Ning’s lips curled into a cold smile, her eyes flashing with a piercing light. ”Keep spouting nonsense, and I can do something much worse. For example, drag you out to feed the zombies~”

’Accuse me of hitting people? Then I’ll show them what hitting really looks like.’

’Say I don’t give people a chance to speak? Then I’ll make sure they can’t speak at all.’

’Call me unreasonable? Then I’ll have to do something far more unreasonable, just to prove I wasn’t wrongly accused...’

If not for Professor Li’s presence, Gu Chen would have nearly laughed out loud.

Professor Li was startled and quickly intervened. ”Young lady, it’s just a small misunderstanding. Whatever you do, don’t cripple Cheng Zihao’s hand.”

Xie Ning tossed the man’s hand aside, a faint, cold smile playing on her lips. ”Tsk. If you want to play the hero in front of a pretty lady, you’d better make sure you actually are one first.”

Everyone: ”...”

’This girl has such a vicious tongue!’

Cheng Zihao’s face was beet red. He wished a hole would open up in the ground for him to crawl into.

Knowing the woman before him was not someone to be trifled with, he didn’t dare say another word. He grabbed the sobbing Shi Ailing and turned to leave.

Shi Ailing, however, was indignant. ”She just watched and did nothing, and she’s so vicious—she’s not even human! What’s wrong with people complaining a little? Why did she have to start hitting people?”

Professor Li looked at Xie Ning with a stern expression. ”Cheng Zihao is a new research specialist at our agricultural research institute and a very talented individual. It’s a good thing you didn’t injure his hand. Otherwise, we could petition for government intervention, and you might have to pay a certain price.”

”A young lady like yourself shouldn’t be so impulsive in the future.” After dropping these words, before the fuming Song You’ai could even retort, the old professor shook his head and walked away.

”What is wrong with those people? Ningning, Mom’s going to go give them a piece of my mind!”

’This never would have happened if they hadn’t started it! What a bunch of ridiculous people!’

”Mom, don’t pay any attention to them.”

Song You’ai was furious. She was especially incensed when she saw Shi Ailing, who was now walking into the crowd, repeatedly turning back to glare at them while pointing and whispering to the people around her. Song You’ai had to fight the urge to rush over and slap her.

’How could she spread such slander?’

’Given the circumstances, Ningning couldn’t have been expected to throw her own life away to save her, could she?’

’Is it a crime now to value your own life and be unable to perform a rescue?’

”Captain Gu, can we pass now?” Xie Ning glanced at Gu Chen, her tone a little cold.

Gu Chen froze for a second, then nodded quickly. ”You can. Coincidentally, we’re also heading to Su City. Why don’t we go together?”

”I’d rather not.” Xie Ning shook her head, her expression intriguing. ”You shouldn’t get too close to someone like me, who just watches people die and does nothing. I might turn on you at any moment.”

Gu Chen immediately realized, ’The young lady is angry.’

He quickly turned to Song You’ai with a smile. ”Ma’am, I’m Gu Chen. I met your Ningning before, back in Ruihua District.”

Song You’ai thought the young man before her looked like he’d stepped right out of a painting. He was handsome, his posture was ramrod straight, and his smile was incredibly infectious!

She inexplicably felt a sense of warmth and familiarity.

”Ma’am, it’s over an hour’s drive to Su City, and the roads are pretty rough. Why don’t you let our convoy lead the way?”

”I’m so sorry about what just happened. When the team gets this big, there are always some unhinged people who are hard to control. We’ll work on strengthening our... mental health management going forward.”

Xie Ning turned her head, only to see her mother, that sweet simpleton, nodding her head as fast as a drumroll.
