Apocalypse Escape: Day One of Survival

”We, the members of the special operations team, cannot treat the lives of ordinary citizens as a joke.”

”Seeing a mission through from start to finish is a principle we’ve always upheld. We can’t just abandon these people halfway through and leave. That’s something we absolutely cannot and will not do.”

Du Zhonggang: ...

Another officer next to Du Zhonggang forced a tight smile. ”Xiao Gu, if you have demands, just state them. Whatever the organization can provide, we’ll make sure you get.”

”If we rescue Team B, their members will be transferred to our command. From then on, they’ll have nothing to do with Yang Yiling.”

Du Zhonggang was speechless. ’He knew it. This kid had been eyeing the promising talent in Team B for a long time.’

’Mr. Wu had told him not to be fooled by the way Xiao Gu accepted every mission with a nod and a ”yes,” as if he had no ambition whatsoever. In reality, he was craftier than a ghost and a real rogue!’

’The moment he suffers even the slightest loss, he’ll turn right around and get his revenge. And no one can say a thing about it—they just have to swallow their bitterness.’

”I’m a bit short-handed over here, as Mr. Wu was already aware.”

”Then there’s the fact that a month ago, we were promised a vacation for the whole team. With this situation, I assume the leave is canceled. But that means our food subsidies and various other supplies have to keep up!”

”Our team is also lacking a Space Ability User, which makes our operations inconvenient. On the way here, I heard a young officer in the First Traffic Police Squadron awakened a Space Ability? Why not transfer him to our team for a trial run?”

A crack appeared in the rigid expression of the officer beside Du Zhonggang, forming a smile.

’That Space Ability User from the First Traffic Police Squadron has become a hot commodity. Everyone wants a piece of him. To think that kid Gu Chen is still so well-informed.’

”Well, as for this personnel transfer... that still requires a report to be filed with our superiors!”

”Oh.” Gu Chen nodded. ”In that case, let’s file a report about providing support to Su City first, and then we’ll talk. Lu Wei...”

Gu Chen turned to call out to the smiling man in gold-rimmed glasses.

”Yes, Boss. I’ll send someone to borrow a computer from a nearby residence right now. We should hurry and write up the report before the power grid fails.”

Du Zhonggang: ...

”Alright, fine! I’ll have the man transferred to you.” ’What a headache!’

’Mr. Wu was right. This Xiao Gu is a tough nut to crack.’

”Is that really alright?” Gu Chen asked cautiously. ”We are poaching him from a different department, after all.”

”It has to be, whether it’s allowed or not!” Du Zhonggang roared, out of patience. ”Now, take your men and leave immediately. You must bring Dr. Wei back to me safely.”

Gu Chen nodded. ”In that case, we’ll wait for the Space Ability User at the Tai Lang Road Overpass.”

Du Zhonggang let out a half-laugh, half-curse and turned to go report to Mr. Wu.

”Ruobai, you and Fengzi will stay here and lead.” Gu Chen began methodically laying out the next steps of the operation. ”Find two empty villas and get everyone settled together.”

”Lu Wei, you’re with me.”

”Yes, Boss.” Lu Wei nodded, pushing up his glasses.

”Bro, I want to go with you.”

”It’s never quiet with you around.” ’Plus, the shameless guy flirts with every girl he sees.’

The rejected baby-face pouted pitifully and went quiet.

”We’ll take twenty men. The rest will stay here and stand guard.” Gu Chen patted Zhai Ruobai on the shoulder. ”Get me the map.”

Someone nearby immediately handed him a large military map.

Gu Chen’s long, slender fingers tapped lightly on several points on the map.
