Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 991: Chapter 995: It’s Not Impossible Either

As Yun Yiyi left, the family members who had come out at the sound of the commotion gathered in twos and threes, talking: ”Things really haven’t been peaceful lately. Just recently, the Third Group’s Sun Lian ran into trouble, and now the ones on a mission from the First Group have had an accident too.”

”Do you think what Mrs. Du said just now is true?”

”The things she says, just listen and let them pass. How could you take them seriously.”

”Didn’t you hear her say that people from the unit came and took Commander Zhan’s Sister-in-law Qiao away? I heard she was very seriously injured.

And now the sister-in-law from Deputy Regimental Commander Huo’s family has been taken away too. Could it really be that Deputy Regimental Commander Huo is injured or something’s happened to him?”

”It’s not like that’s impossible.”

Wan Ruhua saw the tiny figure of Yuan Zining standing at the courtyard gate, his small face full of anxiety, and was afraid of scaring the child: ”Zining, your master-aunt will come back as soon as she’s done with her business. If you’re afraid to stay home alone, come to my place and play with Xiaowei.”

Yuan Zining shook his head. ”Auntie, it’s fine. I’ll just stay home and wait for my master-aunt.”

Wan Ruhua was still uneasy. ”It’s almost noon. Come to Auntie’s place and have a bite to eat first.”

Yuan Zining waved his hand. ”Auntie, my master-aunt already cooked. I won’t come over.”

He glanced at the people outside who were still whispering among themselves. ”Auntie, I’m going back to eat. You should hurry and get busy too.”

With that, he turned around and went back into the yard.

The little fellow might be young, but he’d been through a lot. In the end, he actually put Yunyi more at ease.

He went back, wolfed down his food in a few bites, then hurriedly locked the door and ran out.

There was a public phone at the family compound gatekeeper’s room. ”Grandpa, I want to make a call.”

The old man on duty at the gate thought it was a kid’s prank. ”Shoo, shoo, this phone isn’t for you to play with. Don’t mess around.”

Yuan Zining grew anxious and pulled two yuan out of his pocket. ”Grandpa, I have money.”

The gatekeeper disapproved. ”Whose child are you? Go get your grown-up to come over.”

Yuan Zining was anxious and angry. ”Grandpa, I’m not joking. I have something to talk to my grandpa about. Why won’t you let me use it?”

The old man got worked up too. ”Hey now, you little rascal, don’t you know better? Grown-ups work hard to earn money, you can’t just waste it.”

Just as Yuan Zining was at a loss for what to do, he heard someone call out in surprise, ”Zining, what are you doing here?”

Yuan Zining turned his head and saw Xiao Yurou. ”Auntie Yurou.”

His voice even carried a hint of grievance.

Xiao Yurou took in his expression. ”What’s going on?”

Yuan Zining glanced at the gatekeeper. ”My master-aunt was just picked up by a military vehicle. I was a bit worried, so I wanted to call my grandpa, but the gatekeeper grandpa insisted on stopping me and wouldn’t let me use the phone.”

The old man now realized he had misunderstood the child and hurried to explain, ”Uh, it’s not that I wouldn’t let him call. I was just worried that a child, not knowing any better, would waste his family’s money.”

Xiao Yurou also knew he meant well, and she patted Yuan Zining’s head. ”Alright, Grandpa here means well too. Weren’t you going to call your grandpa? Hurry up and go.”

Yuan Zining gave the gatekeeper a look, then stepped forward and dialed the number with practiced ease—clearly no stranger to it.

After the call was transferred, it was finally connected. ”Hello, Grandpa, it’s Zining.”

Yuan Yuxun hadn’t expected to get a call from his grandson. ”How come you’re calling?”

After asking, he seemed to think of something. ”Are you calling about your master-aunt?”

Yuan Zining hurriedly answered, ”Grandpa, do you know something?

Master-aunt was taken away by people from the unit just now. She left in such a rush that I didn’t have time to ask before she got in the car and left. I’m a little worried.”
