Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 987: Chapter 991: Worried About Your Man?

Wan Ruhua looked dazedly in the direction Yunyi pointed and listened intently for a moment: ”There really seems to be some noise; your hearing is impressive.”

Saying this, she placed the dustpan beside her: ”Come on, let’s go over and take a look together.”

The two followed the sound.

Only then did they discover that the people who went out on a mission from the Second Group had returned. This mission resulted in one death and two injuries, and the noise was coming from the Sun Family, who had lost their company commander.

It might have been a mother’s intuition, as Sun Lian’s mother had been restless these days. Considering it was winter and nothing much was happening back home, she packed up and decided to visit her son and grandchildren.

Because she left in a hurry, remembering how familiar she was with the route from previous visits, she didn’t contact her son or daughter-in-law.

However, just as she arrived outside her son’s house, she overheard the conversation in the yard. Unable to withstand the blow, she fainted on the spot.

The area in front of the Sun Family’s home is now filled with people, and everyone feels solemn.

Mrs. Sun slowly woke up under the care of military doctors, and after a brief moment of confusion, she grabbed onto the arm of a soldier beside her: ”Where’s my son? My son is okay, right?”

The soldier whose arm was seized was Camp Chief Xiao from the Third Group, who was the leader of the mission alongside Sun Lian: ”Aunt, I’m sorry.”

Mrs. Sun did not receive the answer she desired, and upon hearing Camp Chief Xiao apologize, she wailed mournfully: ”My son, no, return my son to me. My son!”

Just then, Sun Yanru, the wife of Commander Wei from the Third Group, arrived and quickly spoke up: ”Get a few people to help bring Aunt inside first. The ground is too cold; let’s not let her catch a chill.”

Meanwhile, Li Sinni, who heard her husband had died, stood there as if soulless, her face pale and terrifying.

The fellow military wives who were close to her were frightened by her demeanor, fearing she’d collapse: ”Sinni, Sinni, say something. Think about your son, Sun Keke, he needs you to take care of him.”

Suddenly, Mrs. Sun, who managed to summon strength from nowhere, charged at her daughter-in-law, Li Sinni: ”I’ll beat you, you bringer of misfortune.”

Everyone was perplexed by her actions and had no option but to try to separate them.

Yet Mrs. Sun was like a madwoman, relentlessly grasping Li Sinni without letting go, raining punches down upon her, until everyone finally managed to pull her away.

Seeing that Li Sinni’s face was bloodied, Sun Yanru exclaimed: ”Aunt Sun, what are you doing? Sun Lian sacrificed himself, your daughter-in-law is just as devastated as you are, how can you hit her?”

Mrs. Sun slapped her thigh: ”If it weren’t for her refusal to have more children, my son wouldn’t be left with no descendants.”

Sun Guozhu, when marrying, didn’t yet have the qualifications to live with the army, so Li Sinni remained in their hometown. She had a difficult childbirth with their daughter, almost losing her life, hence she refused to bear more children afterwards. This issue caused Mrs. Sun to frequently make trouble, and now with her son gone, she thought the granddaughter would eventually marry out, rendering the Sun family lineage extinct. This thought, coupled with the grief over her son’s death, naturally made her resent her daughter-in-law.

Witnessing all this, Yunyi grew even more concerned about Huo Jingrui, who was out on a mission.

Yunyi felt deeply downcast: ”Sis, I’ll head back now.”

Wan Ruhua, worried about her returning alone and with sweet potatoes steaming on her stove, said: ”Let’s go together.”

Once they were a bit farther away, Wan Ruhua saw Yunyi still frowning: ”Are you worried about your husband?”

Yunyi nodded gently: ”Yes.”

Wan Ruhua, fearing her low spirits might affect the baby in her belly, reassured: ”Deputy Regimental Commander Huo’s skills are among the best in the military region; he’s never failed in a mission, so try not to worry.”
