Realized Game: I Hoarded 10 Billion Defense Towers

These newly inherited NPCs might still be clean and uncontaminated. They might even be able to answer questions without their heads exploding.

WHOOSH!

He discovered that the inherited NPC had already picked a direction and was about to run. Without a second thought, Shen Fei instantly controlled his vines to pursue it.

BANG!

BANG!

BANG!

Before the incredibly powerful Shen Fei, the fleeing Intelligent NPC was pulled right in front of him, completely dumbfounded.

”I know that if you’re killed outside of a special zone, it’s game over for you! I also know your intelligence is no less than mine! And I know you need to devour your own kind to increase your strength!”

As the dumbfounded Intelligent NPC stared, Shen Fei rattled off everything he knew. Then, seeing the NPC’s pupils dilate the moment he finished speaking, Shen Fei knew the creature understood the secrets he had revealed.

”Alright, I’ll ask you one question. If you answer, I’ll personally send you into a special zone! I guarantee it!”

Holding his breath, Shen Fei suppressed his excitement and posed his question.

”Really?” the captured NPC asked in return.

The NPC he had captured was asking a question back, not just saying it didn’t know. This made Shen Fei ecstatic. This one knows the answer.

”Really!” Shen Fei replied, his gaze firm.

Looking at Shen Fei’s eyes, then at the sturdy vines binding its body, the NPC that had just emerged from the Game World gritted its teeth and began to speak. If it spoke, it might live. But if it didn’t, it could already see the killing intent in Shen Fei’s eyes.

”When I was inherited into this world, the highest directive I received was that we must, in a certain version....”

Half a minute later, after hearing Shen Fei’s question, the bound NPC slowly began to speak.

BOOM—!

Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned. It had barely spoken a dozen words when suddenly its eyes bulged. Before Shen Fei could react, its head exploded once again.

”Fuck!”

It was just like last time. The moment he asked a critical question, the NPC’s head immediately exploded. Shen Fei could only shout a curse in frustration. He still didn’t know the goals and objectives of the Intelligent NPCs and Super Bosses.

But the more these head-exploding incidents occurred, the more he wanted to know, and the more he realized that an even greater secret was involved.

”Fine! I’ll see about that! Once this monster tide is over, I’m going into a special zone to see for myself! Let’s see how long you can hide this!”

Faced with another Intelligent NPC’s head exploding, Shen Fei’s desire to enter a special zone became even more urgent. He had previously decided to enter a special Secret Realm after the fourth game ability inheritance. Now that the fourth ability had been inherited, it would be time for him to set out once the current chaos subsided.

WHOOSH.

Controlling his vines, he tossed the Intelligent NPC’s headless corpse directly into the monster tide. Shen Fei then resumed his watch over the monster tide across all of Great Xia.

”Bro! This is bad! You might not be able to instantly wipe out the monster tide anymore!”

Half a minute later, just as Shen Fei was about to clear out another wave of the monster tide surging from Qing City and then go check on the other Neutral Cities, Sun Yu suddenly rushed over in a panic. While shouting at Shen Fei, Sun Yu sent him a picture. Shen Fei immediately saw the lines of text:

[Mission: Kill Monsters!]

[Type: Mandatory]

[Kill Count: 30,000]

[Time Limit: 10 minutes]

[Failure Penalty: Comprehensive Combat Power reduced by 5%]

[Note: Any living creature can be considered a ”monster.”]

After observing the text, Shen Fei instantly realized this was the work of the version 4.5 mission system.

”Bro! Just now, hundreds of players in Qing City suddenly activated this mission!” Sun Yu yelled, just as Shen Fei had guessed. ”They need to kill monsters! You can’t just insta-kill all the monsters anymore...”

Everyone had been thinking they would get through this monster tide with a few scares but no real danger. But what they hadn’t expected was that, on their completely inactive mission panels, a new mission would suddenly pop up for some people. And it was a mandatory mission at that.

”Alright! Then take the Heaven-Reaching Gang and help those people finish the mission first!” Shen Fei nodded without any objection. ”If you can’t handle it, call for me again!”

”Okay, I’ll get to it, Bro!”

Since the mission had a countdown, Sun Yu didn’t waste any more words and quickly left.

A 5% reduction in Comprehensive Combat Power! Any living creature can be considered a monster?

As Sun Yu left, Shen Fei looked at the text in the picture and frowned. If this mission wasn’t completed, a player’s Comprehensive Combat Power would be reduced by 5%. That was a pretty heavy penalty. The moment the mission appeared, the players who received it would inevitably focus on completing it.

Places with a monster tide, like Qing City, were one thing. But as Shen Fei reread the line in the mission description—”Any living creature can be considered a ’monster’”—his brow furrowed deeply. If one took a broader interpretation of that sentence, humans, as living creatures, could also be considered ”monsters”...

This... was the malicious nature of version 4.5. This mission-based version would randomly generate all sorts of ”malicious” missions based on the situation, some mandatory, others with lavish rewards. Then, it would throw the entire player base into turmoil.

Originally, faced with a harsh environment, malicious NPCs, monsters, and other ”external enemies,” the players should have united. But because of this version 4.5 mission system, many players were forced down an ”anti-human” path. And it was a path they would travel further and further down.

”Son of a bitch!”

The mandatory mission cast a shadow over Shen Fei’s heart. He worried that at some point, he might get a mandatory anti-human mission himself. It really came down to luck; these kinds of random missions had no discernible pattern at all.

A 5% reduction in Comprehensive Combat Power was a relatively minor penalty. What if a mission came along with a penalty of direct obliteration for failure? Would you do the mission then? Would you do the evil deed?

WHOOSH.

Cursing the mission system in his mind, Shen Fei teleported directly to Songhai City. After arriving and helping to annihilate the monster tide that was already clashing with the local players, he received some extremely shocking news from Zhao Li.

People were disappearing in Songhai City, outside the coverage of the Neutral City near the coast. It wasn’t just one or two people, either; vast numbers were vanishing. Furthermore, it wasn’t only ordinary people—even players with personal panels and access to the Forum were disappearing.

”Holy shit! The sea!”

Controlling the Detection Tower, he scanned the area Zhao Li had mentioned. Shen Fei’s brow furrowed. Zhao Li was telling the truth. Players were indeed disappearing. Even as Shen Fei scanned the area, he saw NPCs rushing out of the sea to capture and bind players.

When it rains, it pours.

The monster tide had arrived.

Mandatory missions had appeared.

All sorts of monsters were randomly appearing.

And now, on top of everything, NPCs from the special zones were capturing humans!

This was intolerable
