Demon Cultivator in Abyssal Era

Chapter 45: Chapter 45: This Is My Prey

Is Chu Xiu cold-blooded?

Of course.

But, he doesn’t intentionally act indifferent to emphasize his cold-blooded nature.

In Chu Xiu’s view, true cold-bloodedness is extreme self-interest.

Are serial killers considered cold-blooded? Certainly, but so are those who seem amiable in daily life, even do charity to build a reputation, yet accumulate wealth by exploiting people behind the scenes.

Chu Xiu prefers to be the latter.

Because the latter can blend into society and grow stronger by leveraging others’ strengths.

So in Chu Xiu’s eyes, the goodwill of people who can help him is also an important ”benefit.”

Shen Zhuo is one of them, Yun Lu is another.

The former’s family can provide him with support, while the latter’s talent for finding food allows him to focus more energy on exploring upgrades.

Although even without these assists, it wouldn’t have a significant impact, Chu Xiu won’t miss even the smallest profit.

That’s why on that cold night, he gave his clothes to Yun Lu to wear.

The previous distant attitude was just to make Shen Zhuo realize his firm stance for a better bargain.

In fact, he wouldn’t miss any chance to gain goodwill without effort.

And what’s easier for racking up goodwill than rescuing someone at a crucial moment?

However, Chu Xiu left directly.

That was because...

”Only a stark contrast can leave a deeper impression.”

Chu Xiu’s lips curled into a smile.

In fact, he had already dispatched three Yin Ghosts to slaughter the scattered Corpse Demons.

Neither Shen Zhuo nor Yun Lu would be in danger, and he wouldn’t forgo that experience.

But he was a bit greedier, wanting to maximize benefits, and he already had a perfect plan for it.

Not to mention, he didn’t want to waste time. If someone else snatched that High Tier Corpse Ghost due to a delay, he would really lose out.

In his thoughts, he had already accurately located the High Tier Corpse Ghost by sensing the Blood Moon.

Right on the other side of the thirty-second-floor outpost!

Not far from that Elite Corpse Ghost, in his perception, a bright red dot was flickering.

Chu Xiu snorted coldly, moving faster. Each step made a heavy thud on the ground, his muscular thighs bursting with strength comparable to an elephant, moving swiftly through the corridors!

Suddenly, a figure flashed before him, followed by a large black shadow arriving later, raising a thick hand to strike the figure heavily!

”Bang!”

With a loud noise, the figure was knocked back, but soon after landing, they skillfully dissipated the majority of the impact and got back up, readying a combat stance with hands held in front.

Chu Xiu narrowed his eyes slightly, and under the glow of the Blood Moon, a cold and arrogant profile appeared in his vision—it was Guan Ke!

At this moment, Guan Ke was entirely different from usual, her face, which was usually somewhat shy due to scars, now brimmed with sharpness and decisiveness—a ferocity Chu Xiu, as a Demon Cultivator, was very familiar with.

She wore a fitted black soft armor, with a metal block closely attached to her back, from which six mechanical arms extended, of which three had been damaged, cables visibly snapped within.

Her hands wore gloves entwined with copper coils, gripping a metal Heavy Hammer. The hammer’s handle was wrapped with wire, and intricate patterns were carved on the hammer’s head, sporadically shimmering with electric arcs.

”Roar!”

Then, the shadow launched its pursuit again. Guan Ke shouted fiercely, the coils on her gloves emitting bright light, as if energy was transmitted from the gloves along the hammer’s wires, finally converging on the hammer’s head!

In the next moment, a dozen azure electric arcs roughly the thickness of pinkies shot out, hitting the shadow in mid-air!

”Bang!”

The shadow fell heavily on the ground, a pungent burnt smell creeping into Chu Xiu’s nostrils.

”Impressive,” Chu Xiu squinted in surprise.

He could see that Guan Ke had advanced to Level 5. At the start of the Blood Moon Ceremony, Chu Xiu had particularly noted her; at that time, she was only Level 4. Apparently, the extra 100% experience boost helped her break through quickly.

She was bold and decisive, indeed.

After reaching Level 5, even though Mechanician is the weakest A-level Profession in the early stages, paired with her electric-shooting hammer and those mechanical arms, it’s considerable combat strength.

”Should be stronger than my Level 7 Yin Ghost, but facing Level 8 Yin Ghost, it becomes uncertain.”

Chu Xiu silently judged in his heart.

However, just when Chu Xiu thought Guan Ke would counterattack, she turned and ran without any hesitation!

At almost the same instant she took a step, the shadow on the ground roared and shakily got back up.

Only now, under the moonlight, could Chu Xiu see this creature’s full form: a bipedal humanoid about three meters tall, completely covered in layers of exoskeleton like a giant man clad in Insect Armor.

Its left hand bore sharp claws similar to Ordinary Corpse Demons but much bulkier and sharper, while the right was incredibly thick, its circumference possibly over a meter! The arm’s fore-end appeared embedded in a massive stone, and a casual swing would leave a big crater on the ground!

[008 Type Corpse Ghost]

[Tier] Mortal Tier Level 8

[Attributes] Constitution 25.6, Spirit?, Energy Level?

[Skill] Power Burst (doubles strength temporarily)

[Traits] Giant Strength, Heavy Armor

[Talent] Tough Skin (Skin Protection +5.5, Insulation Effectiveness, Acid Resistance, and Shock Absorption significantly enhanced)

The panel before him made Chu Xiu click his tongue secretly.

Goodness, it’s practically a super heavy tank!

Bear in mind, his +7 Energy Absorption Heavy Armor at best has only 11.4 Defense, and just one of its talents adds 5.5 points to Defense!

With further augmentations...

He finally understood why Guan Ke had to run; this 008 Type Corpse Ghost was already the defensive type, combined with +300% Life Recovery Speed, it’s simply an unkillable monster.

Guan Ke’s Thunder Shock hitting it would feel like a tickle! Even seizing the paralysis time to attack with her hammer and mechanical arms, she couldn’t cause fatal damage.

Retreat was indeed the smartest option.

He glimpsed the direction in which Guan Ke fled—it was toward the lower stairway, surprising Chu Xiu.

If it were him, he would draw this thing toward Shen Zhuo, indicating this girl’s slightly kinder disposition despite sharing similar scheming tendencies with him.

Without further hesitation, Chu Xiu pushed off with his hind leg, a burst of Giant Strength allowing him to cover dozens of meters almost instantly, twisting mid-air and using the momentum to thrust a Bone Spear from his hand, lunging at the Heavy Armor Corpse Ghost’s head like a dragon rising from the sea!

His speed was overwhelming, catching the Corpse Ghost off-guard and unprepared, barely halting its charge, as Chu Xiu’s Bone Spear pierced its chest!

With a clash of metals resonating, the Heavy Armor on the Corpse Ghost’s chest cracked as though cobwebbed at the point of impact, and next moment, with a crisp ”snap,” a palm-sized piece of Exoskeleton Insect Armor fragmented and fell from the Corpse Ghost’s chest.

”Bang!”

The Heavy Armor Corpse Ghost stepped back, its bloodthirsty red eyes filled with hesitance towards Chu Xiu, momentarily not launching a counterattack.

”Chu Xiu!”

Meanwhile, hearing the commotion, Guan Ke looked back elated to see this turn of events, immediately halting her escape and yelled swiftly: ”Perfect timing! Together, we might be able to take down this...”

However, before she could finish, Chu Xiu’s Bone Spike suddenly shot out, crashing on the ground before Guan Ke!

Rubble scattered as the force left a clear hole in the concrete.

”You...” Guan Ke raised her head in confusion, meeting Chu Xiu’s cold gaze directly.

”Get out, or the next one will be your end.”

”This is my prey. What makes you think you’re entitled to a share?”
