Demon Cultivator in Abyssal Era

Chapter 31: Chapter 31: Elite Corpse Demon

The apartment building where Chu Xiu and the others were located sat on a main road near the city center.

Stepping out from the entrance, there was a wide road. The avenue, which should have been bustling with traffic, was now left with rusty car wrecks, and occasionally, hordes of zombies could be seen wandering through.

”Across the road is a large commercial area, which can be accessed via the overpass or the underground tunnel. These two routes are much safer than crossing the road directly, as they are less likely to attract the attention of Advanced Hunters.”

”Previously, Shen Zhuo’s team used the overpass to get to the mall across the street.”

”As for the other three sides, each has a community area, each occupying a sizable area, with more than ten residential buildings each.”

”However, it’s strange that the Corpse Demons in these three communities seem to be only ordinary ones, with Black-haired Corpse Ghosts only present in the apartment building, though why this is the case is unknown.”

Chu Xiu stood atop the apartment building, gazing around, silently memorizing the surrounding terrain.

”Although there are plenty of wandering Corpse Demons on the street, it’s not suitable as a hunting ground.”

”Not only might the noise attract a horde of corpses, but it might also be discovered by the flying Bird Zombies in the sky.”

Chu Xiu looked up as a giant bird with a wingspan of over ten meters swept across the sky.

This bird monster was something he had seen on the first day he arrived, and now, under the effect of the Nether Demon Eyes, a panel floated before Chu Xiu’s eyes.

[Type 014 Corpse Ghost]

[Tier] Warrior Tier? Level

[Attributes] Constitution 45.4, Spirit?, Energy Level?

[Skills] Unknown

[Traits] Unknown

[Talent] Unknown

Although most of the attributes were unknown, the Warrior Tier and a perverse Constitution of 45.4 made Chu Xiu understand.

Simply put, don’t provoke, show up and you’re dead.

”Although I have greatly improved in strength compared to when I first arrived, I’m still nothing significant in this world.”

”For the upcoming hunt, still, I can’t make too much noise.”

Reluctantly, Chu Xiu withdrew his gaze from the experience targets visible on the road and turned towards the other side of the residential building.

”The challenge task of killing a hundred Corpse Demons is almost complete. I should quickly get those 150 Cause and Effect Points, which will allow a massive boost in strength.”

”For now, I should just settle down for a while.”

Determined, Chu Xiu hesitated no longer and swiftly moved into action. With a Constitution of 7.52, he reached the designated location in just a few minutes and started searching for traces of Corpse Demons along the building corridors.

Unfortunately, like yesterday, the density of Corpse Demons in the building was dismally low during the day. Perhaps these residential buildings had been scavenged by these carrion creatures countless times, leaving no sufficient food to attract the Corpse Demons’ interest.

Chu Xiu worked all morning and only managed to kill eleven Corpse Demons, all ordinary ones without black hair.

More precisely, these creatures are called Type 004 Corpse Demons, creatures of Mortal Tier Level 2, while the Black-haired Corpse Ghost is known as the Type 004 Corpse Ghost Mutation, Mortal Tier Level 3.

And the experience they could provide against Chu Xiu now was pitifully low, even less than single digits.

However, it wasn’t all bad news.

At least with these creatures, Chu Xiu repaired the damaged Bone Armor and the injured Yin Ghost, and even slightly increased his Enhancement Progress.

Moreover, during the hunt, he used the Nether Demon Eyes to complete a rough reconnaissance of the surrounding terrain, including areas with absolutely untouchable terrifying presences.

For instance, he saw a building suddenly extending several tentacles, pulling in passing Corpse Demons, or in the community west of the apartment building, there was a bizarre large tree, which the Nether Demon Eyes even detected had a Level of ? Tier ? Level, without a name! This indicated that the monster’s evolutionary level was even above the Warrior Tier!

All of this was silently noted by Chu Xiu.

When weak, avoid powerful enemies; when strong, mark experience targets.

”Let it be slow, at least it’s safe.”

Chu Xiu quickly adjusted his mindset, preparing to continue settling down.

But just then, he suddenly heard a roar from outside the window that didn’t belong to a Corpse Demon.

He walked to the balcony to look outside and was surprised to see a wild boar that had come from somewhere rushing into the community, currently caught by two Corpse Demons, letting out desperate howls while running wildly.

This wild boar was not large, seeming to be just a juvenile, but its agility was quite impressive, so much so that the combined effort of the two Corpse Demons couldn’t hold it down.

As the wild boar barreled around the community, suddenly, a massive figure leaped from a residential building. Its speed was extraordinarily quick, pouncing down from a four-story building in one bound, pinning the wild boar, and with a lightning-fast paw, gutted it instantly, spilling its innards.

It fell to the ground, its small, bean-sized eyes staring at the ground lifelessly, making fearful ’huffing’ sounds.

But this fear didn’t last long before a jaw full of sharp teeth snapped its throat and began tearing into the flesh.

Only then did Chu Xiu see clearly that it was a creature moving on all fours, resembling a hyena, but far larger, even more substantial than an average Siberian tiger.

Its skin was as pale as a Corpse Ghost, but it had far more muscle mass than an ordinary Corpse Demon and a wide frame, topped with two long, twenty-centimeter tusks and a pair of ferociously intimidating red eyes that instinctively filled people with dread.

As soon as this creature appeared, the other corpse demons that had been prowling around menacingly shrank back, circling from afar with unwillingness but not daring to approach in the slightest, just waiting for the creature to finish eating so they could have some leftovers.

Chu Xiu narrowed his eyes and activated the Nether Demon Eyes.

[Corpse Demon Type 002 (Elite)]

[Tier] Mortal Tier Level 4

[Attributes] Constitution 12.8, Spirit 2.5, Energy Level 3.4

[Skills] Powerful Claw Strike, Tearing Bite, Quick Recovery

[Traits] Bone Spike, Poison Claws, Poisonous Fang

[Talent] Group Hunting (Emits high-frequency sound waves to summon all Type 002 corpse demons within a certain range.)

”Another elite!”

Chu Xiu’s eyes lit up.

As an elite monster, both the drop rate and the experience gained from defeating it far exceed those of ordinary monsters!

Not to mention, this monster itself is Mortal Tier Level 4.

When the level difference is too large, the experience gained from defeating the monster will greatly decrease. This is why the experience Chu Xiu gains from killing corpse demons now is basically in single digits.

”It’s not easy to find an elite monster, especially during the day. I can’t let this go easily.”

Chu Xiu squinted his eyes.

A Constitution of 12.8 isn’t particularly high; with the +6 Energy Absorption Armor, he can handle it himself.

Not to mention, even Chu Xiu’s Yin Ghost has a Constitution as high as 12.4.

But Chu Xiu knew that, just like the elite corpse demon he encountered last night, the real trouble with these guys is their ”special ability.”

”This one’s talent is ’Group Hunting’.”

”So, it means they’ll summon companions to attack in groups?”

Chu Xiu squinted his eyes and looked towards the vicinity of that elite corpse demon.

Soon he discovered that in the distance, there were many similarly shaped ”corpse dogs” gathered.

However, their size was much smaller, only about the size of gray wolves.

These should be ordinary Type 002 corpse demons.

Chu Xiu used the Nether Demon Eyes for a scan. Their Constitution was only between 2.0 to 3.0, but there were a lot of them, at least twenty or thirty, all hiding in the woods or apartment buildings, waiting for their leader to finish its meal.

”Hmm, getting surrounded could still be a bit troublesome.”

Chu Xiu rubbed his chin, scanning the terrain around him.

Suddenly, his gaze fell upon an area less than two hundred meters away from the elite corpse demon.

It was a structure resembling an arch bridge connecting two rows of residential buildings, with a corridor underneath about ten meters long.

This place could perfectly accommodate the Bone Bloodthirst Array.

Most importantly, the corridor wasn’t wide, only allowing three to four people to pass side by side, which would greatly limit the group hunting of the corpse dogs.

Moreover, the corridor led to another row of residential buildings, allowing for retreat into the building in case of special circumstances at any time.

In short, it was a very good battle site.

Chu Xiu mentally calculated for a while, then his eyes brightened.

It could work!

Without any hesitation, he moved like a ghost, silently traversing the neighborhood, soon reaching the designated area and setting up the Bone Bloodthirst Array.

”Next, we just have to lure those corpse demons over.”

And Chu Xiu already had a method in mind.

Witnessing him pointing a finger, the Yin Ghost from the Bone Banner wafted out, drifting towards the elite corpse demon in a soul body form.

The elite corpse dog seemed to sense something, its nose twitching as it jerked its head up, but what greeted it was a swiftly-forming Yin Wind Blade!

”Hiss!”

The Yin Wind Blade spun rapidly, slicing through the air and shooting out!

However, the elite corpse dog reacted extremely quickly, leaping out of the way.

But the Yin Ghost’s purpose wasn’t to fight it; its vague body quickly materialized in mid-air, grabbing a wild boar’s corpse from the ground and turning to run!

Seeing its hard-earned food snatched away directly enraged the elite corpse dog, and together with its followers, it howled in anger, chasing after without hesitation!
