Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 3400 Looking Into The Heart

Davis kept looking at Fairy Wix. He didnʼt avert his gaze, but his lips curled into a curious smile.

”Fairy Wix thinks I will reach the Empyrean Stage in the next hundred thousand years?”

Instead of answering, he asked a question himself, which caused Fairy Wix to blink.

”That or you will most likely die considering the increasingly difficult tribulations attempts you will face on your life every nine thousand years.”

Davis nodded perfunctorily.

Normal tribulations that come every nine thousand years for humans wouldnʼt increase in difficulty, but for an Anarchic Divergent, that might be different. However, Davis already knew it wouldnʼt rise more than a level, and there would be no Paragon Magical Beasts as Myria had encountered five of these tribulations in her life, so it was not a problem for him to survive for more years if he kept hiding.

The tribulation attempts Fairy Wix meant likely included the struggles or the hunts he would have to face while still being in the Immortal Emperor Stage when in the true immortal world. Those tribulations can truly get him killed.

”Fairy Wix, I donʼt know if you know about me truly well, but I can guarantee that I can allow Stella to cultivate faster if I want to, as long as we pay a heavy price for it.”

Davis smiled as he turned to look at the four-hundred-meter-tall tree, ”If I did that, there are two choices. Either Stella will die from unforeseen circumstances, or she will grow up to your level in no time. When I make choices like these, I deem the degree of need before I make a move. In this case, I will not make a move without your consent as Stella isnʼt mine but an ally, so please donʼt worry.”

”…”

Fairy Wix had her eyes narrowed at him again.

She recalled how her master told her to be extremely careful of the Emperor of Death because he could bring the end of the world or nurture the world if he wanted to, even insisting that his future was far more convoluted yet glorious than hers.

Hidden in those sentences was a vast array of possibilities that she didnʼt dare think about, but if what her master said was true, then this fellow before her was unfathomable. He seemed to have no reason to lie either.

But still, her brows further squinted into a deep frown.

”What do you mean Stella isnʼt yours? She declared that youʼre her human, didnʼt she?”

”Yes… she did… but whatʼs that supposed to mean?”

Davis narrowed his eyes. Wasnʼt that just a figure of speech like saying that she liked him very much?

”I may be her mother, but youʼre her human, just like how Saintess Lunaria, my master, is my human. Weʼll follow our humans to death, so you should also treat Stella accordingly; take her in as your disciple.”

”…?”

Davis looked utterly confused and slightly embarrassed, ”Fairy Wix, how can I take her in as my disciple when sheʼs the one teaching me Space Laws most of the time? Just looking at the spatial runes on her true body makes me feel inferior to her when it comes to Space Laws.”

”No, having a master-disciple means having a close relationship with us. After all, we cannot form a beast pact or a spirit pact with you as weʼre a different kind of lifeform, so having a master-disciple relationship is the only way left for us to form a close connection.”

”Ah-” Davis appeared to have realized, ”In that case, I will accept Stella as my adopted daughter. Sheʼs just a child-”

”No.” Fairy Wixʼs voice was firm as she leaned closer ever so lightly, her eyes turning wide, ”Stella is already an adult. Young as she may appear, sheʼs older than you, and it is an insult to be adopted as a daughter. Besides, youʼre a man whom she chose as her human. Iʼve never seen or recollected a Void Dust Tree having mated with a human, but if my guess is right, you will become the first sooner or later.”

”…!”

Davisʼs face went red as he heard Fairy Wix speak without restraint. The noble image he had built of Fairy Wix in his mind came crumbling down in an instant.

”What is Fairy Wix talking about? Sheʼs your daughter, and she doesnʼt have such feelings of love for me.”

”Mhm, considering how womanizing you are, I donʼt believe you can stay your hands from my daughter, but letʼs say that you can. What if she demands that she wants to have your child?”

”Then she wonʼt get it!”

Davis waved his hand, ”What is this? I didnʼt come here for a marriage interview.”

”In my eyes, she is already deeply embedded in your fate.”

Fairy Wixʼs voice remained firm and melodious, ”Whether she wants your progeny or not is up to her, and it wouldnʼt be based upon love as a requirement for sure, as love isnʼt the same for every race. Take your Nadia, for example. Did she love you first or want your seeds first?”

”…!”

Davis almost pointed at Fairy Wixʼs face but stopped, unable to answer as he remembered back to Nadiaʼs wants back then.

She definitely wanted his seeds. It was only through time and numerous adventures that their love blossomed.

”Take, for example, your lightning spirit, Eldia. Iʼm not sure of your relationship, but she wouldʼve also asked for a child before any feelings of love were involved. It is only the human race that obsesses on love, while the other races mostly choose mates based on survivability. The criteria for Void Dust Trees choosing isnʼt even survivability but nutrition, and you can provide for her a lot with your resources and even life energy, as you claim. When Stella reaches the third cycle, she will naturally ask you to embrace her, so are you going to act like you donʼt understand her words by then?”

”I wouldnʼt understand…”

Davisʼs face was frozen, and his voice was chilled as he recalled Eldiaʼs adamance on wanting to sleep with him and bear his child but not knowing the feeling called love. Could it be that the emotion called love might not be the same kind of feeling for each race…?

Then what did Nadiaʼs ʼI love youʼ at the time of marriage account for?

His shaken expression caused Fairy Wixʼs eyes to narrow.

”The human raceʼs Phyletic Law is Enigmatic Heart Laws. Your race places more importance on fickle emotions like love than any race, but at the same time, couldnʼt comprehend the emotions of others or even other races? What kind of contradictory notion is this?”

She sighed, ”The matters of the heart are difficult to understand for us unique lifeforms. Iʼm not saying we donʼt have feelings of love, as we can also love or hate people. Iʼm saying that when she said youʼre her human and you were of the opposite sex, youʼre already halfway to becoming her mate. Do you now understand? Knowing all of this, would you still want to keep her by your side or abandon her? Depending on your answer, I would have to sever the relations she shares with you no matter the cost or else risk losing my daughter forever.”

”…”

Davis completely went silent.

His gaze wasnʼt on Fairy Wix as he was looking into the starry horizon. It was unknown what he was thinking, but he eventually returned his gaze.
